What is it?
The HP Helion Development Platform is a service that enables developers to rapidly develop, deploy and scale applications across a mix of public and private clouds. We provide support for applications developed with Java, .NET, Python, Ruby, PHP, Node.js, Scala, Clojure, Erlang, as well as popular database and messaging technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, Memcached and RabbitMQ.
The HP Helion Development Platform is a runtime environment (Platform as a Service) comprised of two parts and runs on top of HP Helion OpenStack (Infrastructure as a Service):
The Application Lifecycle Service
is
based on the leading open-source application development platform, Cloud Foundry. The HP Helion Development Platform improves on CloudFoundry by adding dashboards, monitoring, and additional developer tools.
Applications Services
– to make it easier for IT administrators to deliver highly-available services to their developers, the HP Helion Development Platform includes databases and messaging options. Multi-availability zone deployments, using technology such as MySQL Galera and RabbitMQ clusters, are setup automatically as part of the installation process invoked from the Helion OpenStack Dashboard. Another benefit for IT operations teams is that developers no longer need root access to machines. The developers deploy their code using the APIs and there is a clear separation of duties between the developer and the operator.HP Helion OpenStack
– an integrated cloud computing backend of highly-available services based on the trunk version of OpenStack. HP Helion OpenStack is a multi-tenant Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) tested at scale for enterprise use and leverages secure containers to help mitigate the risk of rogue application threats. This integration makes it possible to easily move applications from a micro-cloud to a private or public cloud without code changes.As part of HDP, we also provide a Marketplace (BETA), which is an application catalog based on OpenStack Murano and enables application developers and cloud administrators to publish various cloud-ready applications in a categorized catalog that can be browsed by users. Users use the catalog to compose reliable application environments with the push of a button.

HP Helion Development Platform (HDP) is the first-in-market to offer Windows application support for enterprises using Cloud Foundry, today. This is a key requirement of making Cloud Foundry, the leading Open Source PaaS, truly enterprise ready. The enterprise customer is the main one to benefit from the marriage of Cloud Foundry and Windows .NET application support – now .NET applications are first class citizen inside the currently Linux dominated Open Source world.
Enterprise customers can now develop, deploy and manage cloud native .NET applications on HP Helion Development Platform
HP is the only vendor to offer this functionality in today’s Cloud Foundry technology v2, which is a key part of HP Helion Development Platform.
We offer Windows support by providing the ability to host Windows applications on a Windows DEA (Droplet Execution Agent) with a “bring your own Windows license” model.
Microsoft SQL Server integration, available as an Application Service through Cloud Foundry
Developers can bind their applications to a Microsoft SQL Server database via the service model and enable self-service dispending of database resources – this eliminates the need for administrative or operator intervention

Pricing for the HP Helion Development Platform is assessed in addition to typical HP Helion OpenStack costs. Please refer to the HP Helion OpenStack QuickSpec for the pricing of HP Helion OpenStack components and any limitations on the hardware supported.
HP Helion OpenStack (HOS) and HP Helion Development Platform for HP Helion OpenStack (DP) products are available with a choice of 9x5 or 24x7 Foundation Care Support in the following combinations: the HP Helion Development Platform installs onto virtual machines to provide a platform-as-a-service runtime along with application services. The baseline footprint for the install is the following:
Application Lifecycle Service: 0 virtual machines at install time, an estimated 9 virtual machines for medium-sized clusters Database Service, and an estimated 16 virtual machines, when used in an HA configuration with AZs
Marketplace: 4 virtual machines
Messaging Service: 0 at install time, 1-7 virtual machines for each RabbitMQ cluster
Total estimated virtual machine footprint after initial install and initial configuration: 32 (small to medium size)

Support
Foundation Care support for the HP Helion Development Platform provides easy access to HP resources. With either 9x5 or service level, customers can submit cases to HP electronically through the HP Support Center portal or by calling HP directly.
Cases related to Helion OpenStack or Helion Development Platform products are routed directly to HP’s Cloud Center of Expertise, where they can provide advice, troubleshooting, and engage engineering resources where required.
With 24x7 support, HP will respond to received cases within 2 hours. This coverage applies 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
With 9x5 support, HP will respond within 2 hours to cases received weekdays from 8am-5pm (local time), excluding HP holidays. Cases received outside that window will be replied to on the next HP business day.
HP Helion OpenStack and HP Helion Development Platform are supported by HP’s Cloud Center of Excellence, providing troubleshooting, advice and assistance. The Cloud CoE is a virtual team located around the world, available 24x7 (depending on the service level purchased). The Cloud CoE is highly trained in areas of OpenStack, virtualization, HP CloudSystem software, converged infrastructure, and complex solution interoperability. If a problem requires R&D resources, the CoE works directly with the product engineering teams as they investigate the issue.
