Quant Shortcuts for CA T 2007

I have written on this theme before also. But before CAT 2007 happens, I would like to remind all the TGites about these methods once again. What is a shortcut? By shortcuts, I do not mean a sudden inspiration or am erratic method which can be applied to only one or two problems. By shortcut I mean a set method, a pattern which can be repeated again and again. These shortcuts can be learned and applied under pressure also. The reason to apply these shortcuts is one- getting to answers fast and in an easier way than by actually solving the problems. I have discussed two basic methods here which I predominantly use:

1. Examine the options 2. Start small

Woh! Now I know why cut-offs are high! Its m ore about presence of m ind than sheer m echanical aptitude. A friend who got into IIMB last year recom m ended the sam e thing. Look at the options first and see whether the answer is staring at you even without having to solve it. Great stuff TG!!

TG a sm all request although at inappropriate tim e,please give us gadhas som e gyan on DI too,i m ean it is just a thought that com es to m ind while attem pting a set and spending 10 -15 m in on it: Should i continue with this one,should i leave,if its cracked then 5 questions!

Sim ply put when to say good bye to it without m essing up the entire section. You really are a Gem !

Nice useful article.

It would be worth m entioning here a few m ore technics like,

1. If one is good with drawing, s/he m ay try drawing scaled diagram s for geom etry.. N then choose the closest option. Risky but it helps! 2. If the question has variables. then substitute with sm all nos. like 0 or 1. Then do the sam e with answer options and then m atch them .. Cheers & ATB fellas!
