Club Members would by now be aware of the resignation of Chairman Ray Fellenberg in April. Whilst I have publicly acknowledged some of Ray’s contribution to the club, the additional work Ray performed on updates to our club operating guidelines and clubhouse need to be acknowledged: Significant clubhouse improvements, Implemented Cus-tomer Service Training for staff, Drafted the Business and Strategic plan, Building and Fire Regulations, Building Classification, Constitution matters, Disciplinary and Complaint process, Workplace Health and Safe-ty. I am sure members will thank Ray for his tireless work to ensure the club stays up to date with the many legislative requirements. Due to the departure of the Chairman a vacancy existed on the Board. Thank you to the Board members for their nomination and support for me to continue in the role until the next AGM of the club. I also thank Allan Cullen for stepping into the role of Vice Chairman and to Don Collins for picking up some of Allan’s role on the gaming side. The Board is united in ensuring the club is administered in a steady manner with particular emphasis on managing finances. I would also like to acknowledge all our Premier 7’s teams for the excellent job they have done representing our club. Con-gratulations to our Div 1 side and our over 60’s side on bringing home the flags. Well done. Thank you to the many members who were present at Mermaid Beach supporting these sides on the day.
Paul Hynes Board Chairman.
Half year Financial Report
Unfortunately, not a good report.
Our Trading result for the year to date shows a net loss of $61,425 com-pare to a net profit of $59,957 for the year previous.
Why? Less patronage, higher expenses, declining membership, less bow-lers, expensive repairs/maintenance , higher gaming payouts, declining return from our Raffles, Sponsorship hard to find, higher electricity (failed invertor—warranty claim pending) lack of greenspace restricting our Barefoot numbers. Bar sales are down marginally, Gaming patronage down, Greens income are down. On the other side we have increased advertising in an attempt to attract more patronage, provision for Gam-ing points, increased costs of green maintenance, provision for “Card It” increased Link Jackpots, provision for RDO’s, additional provision for LSL. Overall, our income for the period is down $80,407
Expenses $35,961
For net Trading Loss of $61,425 Admin earnings are down $5,014
To maintain our Club in operation we are making up the shortfall from our accumulated cash reserves.
There is no extravagant expenditure. Our spending is confined to those items necessary for the maintenance and operation of our Club. Capital works are on hold in the meantime.
PROSPECTS
We urgently need a good winter trading period. When it is known that at 31/3/16 our net profit was $59,957 and at 30/9/16, $97,742 (or $37,785 for the second half of last year) if that is the best that we can do, then for the end of this year we are looking at a “red” balance. This shortfall will have to be made up from our accumulated cash reserves.
Don Collins Treasurer
It was with great sadness we farewell Laurie Stothard, husband of Kerry at a memorial at the Club. All our deepest sympathies go to Kerry and her family, Kerry is now back from New Zealand and we love seeing her smiling face back here again.
The finals of the 4’s saw Glenys Kitching, Kay Hodges, Lesley Dunn and Norma Herbertson worthy winners. Well done girls!
The Singles have commenced and all well underway with consistency about to be drawn. Anzac day this year will be run by the Ladies Section with support from the Men with mixed 4’s games. Club shirts to be worn.
The Ladies Gala Day will be held on Monday 15th May, Two bowl Triples. The Ladies Council has been working hard behind the scenes to obtain support from other clubs in our District and of course our own Club to make this day a viable success.
Our Ladies Secretary Denise Lowe has handed her resignation in this month, 5 years of service to the Club, thankyou Denise for this effort. Sally Doffkont is now the Ladies Secretary thankyou Sally for putting your hand up to take on the position.
The ladies have commenced bowls on a Thursday at the old time of 9am with a break for morning tea at 10:30am.
Good Bowling and enjoy Di Pickett, Ladies President

Pottsville Away 26th March2017
The day started well with a bus load of Camels travelling south for the challenge against the Pirates. As usual a warm welcome was provided and the Camels responded with a great bowling effort. Most teams per-formed well except for Denny who was wide of the mark all morning. Denny would like the selected looking at giving him a stronger side so he can have a better game. The Camels had a win overall well done team.
Home Alone Game 2nd April 2017
The sun was shinning and out came the Camels to enjoy the morning. 30 players turned up and fun was had by all time to sharpen the skills. Den-ny’s form continued but this time went one step better managed to be on both losing sides what an effort.
Gap Home 9th April 2017
This is one of our regular challenges and this lived up to it with 36 Camels enjoying a great morning of bowls with lots of close games. Final result was Camels 205 d Gap 135. The team performed well only missing out on two rinks an excellent overall result. THE yearly update Camel 986 v All Comers 736.
Ipswich Home Visit 23rd April 2017
Some great bowling with Camels winning 5 rinks to 2. The team of the week was Greggo, Doog and Shaun, getting up by 26 shots leaving the opposition in their wake. The only low point was one team failed by 15 shots (Will not mention names Wally) The challenge continued of the green with Darcy and an Ipswich bowler having a drinking contest. Darcy came out second but has a chance next time for a rematch. Camels keep up the great work!

MENS REPORT
MENS LOCKER ROOM
WOW what a month we have had!
Our first time entry in the Premier 7s resulted in a remarkable achieve-ment, winning both Division 1 and the Over 60s celebrating $16000 prize money! We started the finals in Division 1 with a 2/1 win over last years title holders Wellers Hill. We then eliminated Windsor in the Semi Final on Sunday before downing Southport 2/1 in the Final. But what a thrill it was after Steve Coffey won his game and it all hinged on the Pairs, Peter Hickman and Steve Miller winning theirs. Last end and the score is 18/17 Southport leading by one shot and holding one shot on the head. Steve (Migaloo) with the last bowl in his hand played the shot of the century taking out Southports shot and staying for 2 to win. The huge crowd of Burleigh supporters went wild!
Division 1 Over 60s was just as exciting snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in their 2/1 Semi Final eclipsing the reigning champions Salisbury. Salisbury were holding game in the Singles before Vince Sullivan pulled off a magical bowl to claim multiple shots and a 31/29 victory. Vince con-tinued his good form in the final winning 31/25 and Bob Marin skipped the Fours to clinch the title 2 games to 1.
Well done boys!
Our mixed event on Anzac Day was enjoyed by all with the comments made that we should hold more mixed social events. Many thanks to the Ladies section for organizing the day and afternoon tea.
