INTRODUCTION

ABOUT GOOGLE CHROME

Google Chrome is a web browser developed by Google that uses the WebKit layout engine and application framework. It was first released as a beta version for Microsoft Windows on 2 September 2008, and the public stable release was on 11 December 2008. The name is derived from the graphical user interface frame, or "chrome", of web browsers. As of

September 2010, Chrome was the third most widely used browser, with 7.98% of worldwide usage share of web browsers, according to Net Applications

Chrome periodically downloads updates of two blacklists (one for phishing and one for malware), and warns users when they attempt to visit a harmful site. This service is also made available for use by others via a free public API called "Google Safe Browsing API". Google notifies the owners of listed sites who may not be aware of the presence of the harmful software Chrome will typically allocate each tab to fit into its own process to "prevent malware from installing itself" and prevent what happens in one tab from affecting what happens in another, however, the actual process-allocation model is more complex. Following the principle of least privilege, each process is stripped of its rights and can compute, but cannot write files or read from sensitive areas (e.g. documents, desktop)—this is similar to the "Protected Mode" used by Internet Explorer on Windows Vista and Windows 7. The Sandbox Team is said to have "taken this existing process boundary and made it into a jail" for example, malicious software running in one tab is supposed to be unable to sniff credit card numbers entered in another tab, interact with mouse inputs, or tell Windows to "run an executable on start-up" and it will be terminated when the tab is closed. This enforces a simple computer security model whereby there are two levels of multilevel security (user and sandbox) and the sandbox can only respond to communication requests initiated by the user.

About internet explorer

Windows Internet Explorer formerly Microsoft Internet Explorer; commonly abbreviated to IE, is a series of graphical web browsers developed by Microsoft and included as part of the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems starting in 1995. It was first released as part of the add-on package Plus! for Windows 95 that year. Later versions were available as free downloads, or in service packs, and included in the OEM service releases of Windows 95 and later versions of Windows.

IE has been the most widely used web browser since 1999, attaining a peak of about 95% usage share during 2002 and 2003 with IE5 and IE6. Since its peak of popularity, its usage share has declined in the face of renewed competition from other web browsers to 55%, and is slowly trending downward. Microsoft spent over $100 million per year on IE. in the late 1990s, with over 1000 people working on it by 1999

Internet Explorer has been designed to view a broad range of web pages and to provide certain features within the operating system, including Microsoft Update. During the heyday of the browser wars, Internet Explorer superseded Netscape only when it caught up

technologically to support the progressive features of the time.

internet Explorer makes use of the accessibility framework provided in Windows. Internet Explorer is also a user interface for FTP, with operations similar to that of Windows

Explorer. Pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing were added respectively in Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7. Tabbed browsing can also be added to older versions by installing MSN Search Toolbar or Yahoo Toolbar.

Literature review

(11)

Choney suzzane (2008) concluded in his article that chrome is so simple in use we will never get confused for how to use it. While internet explorer has so many tabs which

sometimes creat a bit confusion. In Internet Explorer, the Web site tabs remain located below the address bar, as they are in Firefox. Chrome puts the tabs above the address bar, giving a truer appearance of file folders in a cabinet.

Chrome and Internet Explorer 8 both have Web address bars that try to anticipate what we want to search for, or where we want to go, as soon as we type in a word. Chrome calls its auto-completion feature “Omni box,” and IE 8’s is “Smart Address Bar.” Both of these worked well. Chrome’s home page is worth the download experience alone. It gives you a visual snapshot of your nine most-visited Web sites, making it easy to go back to them at any time.

IE 8’s program is “In Private Browsing,” located in the Tools menu. In Private Browsing “ensures that history, temporary Internet files and cookies are not recorded on user’s PC after browsing,” according to Microsoft. Internet Explorer 8 probably holds more excitement and interest for Web developers and IT managers than everyday Web users. Microsoft has added a lot under the hood to make IE 8 beefier in terms of security and Web development tools. But for those of us who want a fast, no-nonsense Web-browsing experience, Chrome is a terrific option. Its ease of use does take some getting used to and it’s an appealing entry into the competitive Web browsing market.

Zawarski zachari (2010) has concluded in his article that Google Chrome is simply the best browser there is. I’m still stunned that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer still has a majority of the web browser market share with 61%. Not because it is a good browser but because it comes preinstalled with windows. Google Chrome has just 6% of the browser market share and I hope I can boost those numbers by just a bit by providing a list of reasons why you should switch to Google Chrome. Despite Google’s small percentage of the

browser market, Google’s market share grew by 0.52% in just the past month alone, so it’s really starting to gain some steam.

When he launch Firefox, he find himself waiting for about 15 seconds before the browser is launched and he is able to start browsing. Although Internet Explorer is a bit faster than Firefox in terms of launch speed, it doesn’t come close to Chrome. He also found that webpages load 33% faster in Chrome vs. Internet Explorer. A typical website that takes 15 seconds to load in IE will take just 10 seconds to load in Chrome.

(12)

Another good reason about Google chrome is it reduces the clutter. while comparison to internet explorer it reduced the clutter by 7.

Google Chrome also makes it easier to move tabs around, close other tabs, and you can even pull a tab off of the tab bar so that tab opens in a new browser window. You can’t do that with Internet Explorer. Just like you’re able to pull a tab off to open into a new window, you can also drag a tab from one window to another window. So according to him Google chrome is better than internet explorer.

Pert Jamie (2010) concluded in his article that According to the latest figures released by Net Applications, Google’s own browser Chrome now has a 6.7% market share, which is a feat of great magnitude, considering it had zero prior to 2009. But why has Chrome suddenly become popular because of many reasons.

He has noticed the speed at which the browser loads pages. And really , it is fast. Sometimes though, it is too fast and tends to become impatient. Chrome is secure, by taking advantage of “sandboxing,” which isolates internet commands from the operating system and other

applications and data. This makes it harder for hackers to infect you with suggested malware and spyware. Plus, due to Chrome’s low market share at the present time, hackers are less likely to hack the browser. Chrome is also immensely easy to use, It tries to be nothing more than just a browser. No fancy menu’s, slim toolbars for greater page viewing and easy bookmark management. Couldn’t ask for more (or less).

Kennedy randal (2008) concluded on his article that Google has designed an almost completely new Web browser. with the current versions of Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer, individual Web page tabs are hosted in a single process - a model that is efficient (in terms of memory and resource consumption) but also prone to catastrophic failures: A single crashed tab can easily take down the entire browser application. Chrome seeks to eliminate this problem by isolating each tab within its own application process, then

leveraging the built-in memory protection capabilities of modern, pre emotively multitasking operating systems to keep code and data in a failing tab from stomping on other processes. So now, when that buggy Flash applet on your favorite humor site goes belly up, it won't

necessarily take down the entire browser - the processes running in other tabs will keep chugging along. , IE 8 uses multiple, discrete processes to isolate and protect each tab's contents. However, while Chrome takes a purist approach and literally launches a new process with each opened tab, IE 8 uses more of a hybrid model: It creates multiple instances of the I explore.exe process but doesn't specifically assign each tab to its own instance. both IE 8 Beta 2 and the Chrome Beta look like compelling options. Each pushes the boundaries of Web application robustness while consuming gobs of resources and generally ignoring legacy hardware. Chrome will no doubt receive most of the attention, if for no other reason than it's from Google and, thus, "newer" and "cooler" than IE (not to mention, potentially more stable)

(13)

Vang mike concluded in the article that the internet explorer 9 will be better than Google chrome. No doubt it is marvellous but the Microsoft browser will have its beta version launched this week. From what we’ve seen in the videos, IE9 beta has been blessed with new interface. It is a lot like Google Chrome but looks better. he admits that Chrome 6 doesn’t do a lot of GPU assisted stuff but it is something that I and my team members have been

working on. I think within a month or two, we’ll release something better and competitive enough to face the music

Mielde eric concluded in the article Google chrome looks less jumbled and confusing and has very few buttons in comparison to Internet Explorer. we have the basic home panel to type in website addresses and go forward and back between web page's.two unique buttons are also added to the right, that look like a piece of paper and a wrench. There is no menu bar at the top as we may expect with many programs. All the tools, properties and functions can be found in the two unique buttons. Internet Explorer uses favourites and Chrome uses bookmarks, they are one in the same. When you want to bookmark a page in explorer we can hit the "add to favorites" button. In Chrome we can add a bookmark by clicking the star to the left inside the address bar. This is a bit easier to find then somewhere on the task bar. Chrome does open faster than Internet Explorer. This is especially obvious on slower PCs. , both check to make sure we want to download a file before it gets downloaded and announce the file could be dangerous. They both also include pop up blockers and protection against phishing. finally Internet Explorer and chrome are both very popular web browsers and have similar features

Saxton. M. concluded in his article Google chrome is very simple, fast, and high functional web browser. Chrome has a simple interface. There aren't a bunch of menus or other idiocy, nor toolbars to slow it down. if we type in something that isn't a web address, it actually brings us to Google's search page and generates a search instead of having a toolbar with a search field. Google looks for phishing sites and possible affected sites and will advise us before continuing, which is something that many "computer protection" toolbars evidently do. Add-ons to me are a mix. The capability was added to Chrome and there are a couple of good ones but he has to say, he would prefer the important functionality of add-ons to be native to the browser although there are some nice, creative add-ons that are useful for certain people but are not useful for everyone and these should be optional.

(14)

Advantages of google chrome

1. Blazing fast

Chrome actually uses WebKit for rendering Web pages, the same rendering engine

as Safari, which is known to be very fast. Put that in a simple, well optimized,

stripped down shell and you get the fastest Web browser around. It loads fast, it

displays pages fast, and we’re talking noticeable differences here, which really

make it a joy to use. Don’t just take my word for it, check out some early

benchmarks.

2. Incognito mode

Click the control icon in the upper right corner of the browser and you’ll get the

option to open a new tab, a new window, or a new incognito window. Incognito

window will fire up without appearing in browser or search history, and it won’t

leave cookies or any other traces of your activity, except files you’ve downloaded

or bookmarks. Yes, Safari has it, too, but it’s a nice jab at Firefox which skipped

some similar privacy features in version 3.0.

3. Easy to switch

When we’re entering a saturated market with a new product, you can’t change

everything. You must carefully balance the features you want to blatantly copy

with the ones you want to innovate in. I was pleased to see that Google

Chrome was built with this in mind; for example, it’s easy to switch from Firefox,

but it does bring enough novelties to make you stick around. Importing your

bookmarks from Firefox is easy and works well; and other details, like keyboard

shortcuts, are the same. Therefore, Chrome’s learning curve is virtually

non-existent; start it up and you’ll be browsing as usual in no time.

(15)

Chrome treats tabbed windows as separate processes. Nice, we’ve already seen that

in IE8, right? But Chrome also has a nifty way to see what’s going on: a task

manager. Similar to the task manager in Windows, it lets you see which processes

are active (inside Chrome), and how much memory, CPU, and network resources

they use. Beautiful. You can access it by right clicking Chrome’s title bar.

5. Intelligent start page

Although not completely original (Opera has got a similar approach to quick

bookmarking), Chrome’s start page is a pleasant surprise. Besides the ubiquitous

search bar, it gives you a list of most commonly visited Web pages to fire up

quickly. Granted, I’ve always hated suggestions of that ilk (for example, I’ve

never, ever used the commonly used programs feature inWindows, but here it just

works, because the pages you frequently visit really are the ones you want to open

first.

(16)

SWOT ANALYSIS OF GOOGLE CHROME

STERNGTHS:

* Built for Web applications rather than Web pages.

* Has its own JavaScript engine to power web applications.

* Uses browser tabs that get their own URL box making each tab a browser window. * No about:blank pages. Chrome defaults to a page featuring the four most used search engines and the user’s nine most visited Web pages.

* Chrome has an “Incognito” mode to erase browser history when the browser is closed. * Chrome can be “streamlined” so that the toolbar and URL box are hidden and only the web page is shown on the screen.

* Good security. Chrome sandboxes Web pages, preventing drive-by downloads and installations.

* Continuously makes contact with Google to update a list of known malware sites in order to warn the user.

* One box for everything – type in address bar and get suggestions for both search and web pages.

* Thumbnails of your top sites – access your favourite pages instantly from any new tab. * Shortcuts for your applications – get desktop shortcuts to launch your favourite web applications.

Weaknesses:-1. Memory Usage

Google implemented a novel method of rendering tabs in Chrome in which a separate process is created for every tab that is opened. This differs from other browsers which handle all tabs as one process. The advantage of Google Chrome’s method is that it prevents a problem in one tab from affecting other tabs, therefore, preventing the entire browser from crashing. However, the creation of separate processes causes Chrome to use up a lot of memory as it runs. This may be a problem for computers with a small amount of RAM.

2. Privacy Issues

Google Chrome offers a feature called Google Suggest which offers possible matches or suggestions to your search term as you type it in. For this feature to work the browser has to send the information typed in to Google. In effect, Google has knowledge of all of the information typed into the browser and many people consider this an invasion of privacy. Google Suggest is an optional feature which is enabled by default. It can disabled in the Chrome Options menu.

(17)

People who create websites ensure that they render properly on available browsers.

Consequently, some of the websites that were created before Google Chrome may not display properly on it. This is because they were not tested on Chrome while they were being

designed. However, Google assures users that all sites which people visit regularly display correctly on Chrome.

4. Password Security

Google Chrome offers to save your passwords just like any other browser does. This is so that you do not have to type them in over and over again. These passwords are saved on the browser and can be accessed by looking in the Options menu. While this is a helpful feature, Google Chrome does not offer a feature for securing the saved passwords such as is found on Mozilla Firefox. Therefore, this is a security risk as the saved passwords can be read by anyone with access to your computer.

5. Closing a Window with Multiple Tabs

Most browsers display a message whenever you try to close a window which has more than one open tab. This prevents you from closing tabs that you do not intend to exit. Google Chrome does not have this feature and if you mistakenly close the browser window, all open tabs are closed without warning.

6. Limited Right-click Menu Options

Google Chrome is relatively newer than other browsers and so most of the people who now use it invariably used one of the earlier available browsers. Consequently, they are used to having a lot more options when they right-click in a browser. Chrome did away with some of these options and a lot of users are not comfortable with this.

OPPOTUNITIES

To become a the most preferable browser To acquire the market share of browser To launch the operating system for computers Will be the tough competitor of windows

(18)

THREATS

From Microsoft windows From hackers

From new entrants

Advantages of internet explorer

1. Perhaps the biggest, most notable change from Internet Explorer 6 to version 7 is the look and feel of the Web browser. Using more rounded corners, updated icons and including a search bar makes IE7 more comfortable for the user. The arrangement of icons and menus are more natural and allow users to easily access the features they need

2. If the fresh interface is the most notable change, the most useful feature of IE7 is the ability to use tabs. Instead of opening up a multitude of new windows for each Web page, you can simply open new web pages in separate tabs. Safari, Opera and Firefox have had this feature for years, but Microsoft finally added support for the feature in its Web browser, bringing the ease and organization of tabbed browsing to millions of Internet users.

3. The release of Internet Explorer 7 marks the first time Microsoft has made an innovative and defensive move against Internet scammers. Phishing is a type of Internet scam in which the scammer will post a false website that looks exactly like a real website and get you to enter your user name and password, credit card number, and provide other personal information. For example, the phisher may post a false PayPal website that looks just like PayPal.com; the average user may not be able to tell the difference and will enter his credentials, giving the phisher access to any information stored in that PayPal account. IE7's phishing filter looks for these scam websites, and will warn you if are about to provide that site with personal information.

(19)

Advantages & disadvantages of chrome over Internet Explorer:

 Competition in web browsing from Chrome has prompted Microsoft to increase the release of its next Internet Explorer, version 7.there are both advantages and disadvantages to using Chrome.Mozilla Chrome, certainly makes the new browser easy to try. Chrome web browser is free for downloading. There are no excess advertisements, annoying characteristics of many other free software packages in chrome.

 We can import all Internet Explorer settings, bookmarks, cookies, and your browser history after installing Chrome, It doesn’t cause any harm to your system and become the default browser So Chrome is technically is a harmless browser.

 Chrome performance seems moderately faster than Internet Explorer.Chrome renders web pages differently by using a painterly, top-down effect, and text and graphics which appears just a tad faster in Chrome than in Explorer.

 Some functions of chrome is same as the Internet Explorer.keyboard shortcuts such as hitting Ctrl-Home in the address bar to automatically fill in the ".com" after a word you type, work similarly same in Chrome.

 Chrome's options' panel makes downloading simple to establish a place to put downloaded files by default.By using Internet Explorer, users constantly get puzzled by really where on their hard drives their downloaded files end up. With Chrome's "download manager" of chrome cause ia less problem of misplacing downloaded files.

 we can use Chrome in a tabbed interface mode. Chrome places newly opened Web sites in a separate tab within the same browser window. This feature hugely decreases clutter on your Windows taskbar. But in Internet Explorer, we have to open a browser window, a new icon appears in your taskbar.if you Open twelve browser windows, and your taskbar will quickly fill by thesetwelve browser.you can invoke a windows XP feature to collect icons from the same program to cancel taskbar clutter.

 A big advantage of Chrome over Internet Explorer is bookmark management window. We have to do huge & lengthy work to organise ,delete bookmarks & favouritesin internet explorer. Chrome makes easy all type of selection of multiple bookmarks at once which is going to organise or delete.

 Chrome provides with keyboard shortcuts for common task like going backwards and forwards, to the top of the page and to the bottom, also for getting particular features of the Web browser, which contain the history panel of recently-visited sites. Chrome always retains integration with existing e-mail setup. There are some disadvantages in chrome yet to be solved.

 Slow Initial Loading :When you load Chrome after booting up your system, Chrome does take a lot of time to start. We can see this in faster and new. chrome team have claimed that the main reason for IE loading speedy is that it loads along with the Operating System, Opera loads in just a few seconds while Chrome loads in around 10-15 seconds.

 Lack of HTML Editor : In chrome, the View-Source option, you only outlook the source and not edit. Web designers who want to edit HTML, etc, it is very irritating to open a separate Notepad window, load the HTML page and then load Chrome.

(20)

Conclusion

Both Google chrome and internet explorer are the efficient web browser. Both has its own features as well as properties. Like internet explorer is very old web browser having capture of 61% market share. And it comes with windows operating system, but it is a bit slow. On th e other hand chrome is new to the market with just 6% market share. It can be downloaded easily from internet. It is too fast while comparison to other web browsers. It is too simple and easy in use. While internet explorer is slow and confusing because of toolbars. If we want to bookmark a page it is too simple in chrome. Internet Explorer and chrome are both very popular web browsers and have similar features. Chrome has a less jumbled border and removes the menu bar from the top of the screen, replacing it with two unique buttons to the right. Explorer and Chrome both have nice bookmark/favourites managers, where you can move and organize web addresses you are saving. Chrome also has the star icon to the left of the address bar to mark favorites which is handy. Overall, internet explorer and the Chrome look like persuasive options. Each pushes the boundaries of Web application strength while consuming bundles of resources and generally ignoring heritage hardware in other words, systems more than 18 months old). Chrome will no doubt receive most of the attention, if for no other reason than it's from Google and, thus, "newer" and "cooler" than IE not to mention, potentially more stable. A big advantage of Chrome over Internet Explorer is bookmark management window. We have to do huge & lengthy work to organise, delete bookmarks & favourites in internet explorer. Chrome makes easy all type of selection of multiple

bookmarks at once which is going to organise or delete. Most browsers display a message whenever you try to close a window which has more than one open tab. This prevents you from closing tabs that you do not intend to exit. Google Chrome does not have this feature and if you mistakenly close the browser window, all open tabs are closed without warning. IE uses all the regular Windows keyboard shortcuts. This can be very helpful if you do a lot of Web browsing, because you don't have to learn new ways of doing things with the

keyboard. Hit the Backspace key and you back up to the previous folder in your hard drive or the previous page in IE 4, to give one example. Common keystrokes just plain make sense.
