CBS strongly focuses on the students’ pos-sibility of taking part of their education at a partner university abroad. At the same time, our international students are an important aspect of our campus life and addition to the internationalisation of CBS’ own academic environment.

CBS is the Danish member of CEMS - The Global Alliance in Management Education - and a member of Partnership in International Management (PIM), and furthermore focuses on double degree agreements with other top business schools. We have exchange and co-operation agreements with approximately 330 universities and business schools around the world, half of which are European. Thirty-eight percent of CBS programmes are taught in Eng-lish and we offer approximately 200 separate courses taught in English.

The curriculum for each of our bachelor pro-grammes varies, however, students will generally spend the first and second year focusing on a core of foundational courses for each specialisa-tion. Students will follow a coherent, progressive sequence of courses in each programme, and the number of courses, methods of teaching, type of exams, etc. varies across programmes and con-centrations.

In the third year, most programmes allow the opportunity to choose electives. You can choose from the many courses offered by CBS or take related courses at other Danish or international universities. If you decide to participate in an exchange programme with one of CBS’ approxi-mately 330 partner universities, you can choose to do so in the third year.

During the third year of study, all programmes include a required bachelor project, which must be written within your overall area of speciali-sation. Here students must demonstrate their ability to independently write, analyse and assess a complex academic issue at a high professional and academic level.

Brief programme and concentration descriptions are presented on the following pages. If you find one or more of these especially interesting, you can find more detailed descriptions by going to the web address listed under each programme. Read more: www.cbs.dk/undergraduate

Master’s Admissions

Admission to the Copenhagen Business School is selective, and we review each application for its individual merits and qualities. Your academic preparation and performance, combined with the strength and quality of your undergradu-ate education, will be the basis on which your application will be assessed. All our graduate programmes require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, plus any additional requirements speci-fied by each individual academic programme and concentration. Academic admission decisions for students in need of a student residence permit will be made on a rolling basis.

Additionally, in order to ensure a high level of teaching at CBS, all Danish and international applicants are required to document fluency in English according to CBS requirements. The up-to-date requirements can be found here:

www.cbs.dk/graduateenglish. Each specific pro-gramme and concentration may have additional language requirements.

Students may contact the CBS Admissions Of-fice by the specified deadline for a free appraisal (pre-assessment) of your academic background, in order to determine whether you fulfil the entry requirements for your programme of interest.

Scholarship

CBS offers a number of scholarships to highly qualified international graduate students. We welcome applicants from outside the EU/EEA (in need of student residence permit) regardless of gender, age, nationality and religion – we are spe-cifically interested in your motivation and your academic background. Scholarship recipients must first be academically admissible to CBS, and funding decisions will be announced in April.

MBA and MSc – What is the Difference

The structure of Danish higher education is a 3-year bachelor degree which can be followed by a 2-year master’s degree (not MBA). Students can then apply for a 3-year PhD programme (under 1 % of Danish graduates choose this). After working for a number of years, it is customary to further qualify your skills by doing some sort of continu-ing education.

The MSc

Master of Science is an academic 2-year degree consisting of 120 ECTS. As CBS we offer

• MSc in Economics & Business Administration • MSc in International Business & Politics • MSc in Business, Language and Culture • Master of Social Sciences

• Elite MSc Programmes

To be eligible for admission to one of the MSc programmes applicants are required to have a relevant bachelor degree within business ad-ministration that fulfils the specific entry re-quirements of the programme. Only the aca-demic credentials of the applicant are taken into consideration for admission. The typical student is between 21 and 25 without much practical ex-perience. The tuition fee for Non-EU and non-EEA students is 12,500 € pr. Year (2012).

MBA

MBA is a 1-year full-time general management, business programme that attracts talented pro-fessionals from around the world to Copenhagen. In 2011, CBS admitted 47 students with 24 dif-ferent nationalities, who had an average work experience of 9 years. 20 % are women and the average age at admission is 33. Candidates are assessed on the basis of demonstrated excellence and achievements academically and profession-ally. Applicants are expected to have a university degree (minimum bachelor degree) or an equiva-lent professional qualification and have gained at least 2 years of work experience.

Work Experience

(18)

The PhD programme is the starting point for a research career. It enables you to become a researcher and a lecturer at an institution of higher education or a specialist/consultant in the private sector. At CBS, the PhD programmes cover all of the classic fields within business econom-ics and business languages in relation to the management and operation of public and private companies, such as finance, marketing, account-ing, strategy and organisation. The programmes also include research areas necessary for the understanding of the challenges that companies face in a global knowledge society. These include innovation, business law, informatics, interna-tional economics, intercultural communication, political science and business history.

Programme Components

A PhD programme at CBS typically spans three years and includes the following components: • Courses for PhD students (approximately 30

ECTS credits)

• Independent research under supervision • A research stay at another university or

business school

• Teaching or another form of knowledge dissemination

• The completion of a PhD dissertation

CBS Doctoral Schools

CBS has organised its PhD programmes in three doctoral schools with each their own academic profile:

• PhD School in Language, Law, Informatics, Operations Management, Accounting and Culture

• PhD School in Organisation and Management Studies

• PhD School in Economics and Management Admission and Types of Enrolment

Enrolment in the PhD programme at CBS takes place through the doctoral schools under the same procedure, which varies according to three different types of enrolment:

• Research fellow – you are employed in a posi-tion at CBS, but you are also a student at CBS • Independent PhD student – you are affiliated with CBS as a student only and must pay a tuition fee

• Industrial PhD fellow – you are enrolled at CBS as a PhD student, but employed in a company or organisation

Entry to a PhD programme requires a master’s degree.

The CBS International Summer University Pro-gram (ISUP) is open to:

• International students • CBS students

• Students from other Danish institutions of higher education

• Professionals seeking to further develop their knowledge and skills

Our six-week summer programme offers students the opportunity of completing the equivalent of half a semester’s course load (15 ECTS credits) in a multicultural environment. A full load consists of two courses taught by outstanding academics. The International Summer University Program includes both undergraduate and graduate level courses.

Summer in the City?

Definitely worth considering when the city is Copenhagen, where the streets are filled with sidewalk cafés and the midnight sky is never darker than a deep blue. Close to the city and waiting for you to discover are quaint medieval towns, white beaches and lovely forests. You can walk the winding streets of the old city center or see it from a canal boat.

To complement learning from ISUP courses, our programme offers an action-packed cultural and social program where you will get an insight in both medivial Copenhagen and modern Danish Design and Architecture. Travel is easy from Co-penhagen and you can take part in a weekend-trip to the buzzling city of Berlin.

CBS Student Life, Services and Facilities

Student Life and Study Environment At CBS, you have the chance to take part in a wide range of cultural activities and social events. To begin with, each academic programme arranges an intro week in August, where new students are welcomed into their programmes through a fun schedule of networking and social-ising. CBS is also very much an active part of the wider business world, regularly hosting a variety of guest lectures, seminars and other academic events with the participation of distinguished business professionals, public figures and global companies often contributing as guest speakers. As a CBS student, you will have access to all of the events taking place here. You also have the possibility to join one of the many independent student organisations and clubs that arrange academic and social activities. Help is never far away, as the school also offers a wide range of counseling and student guidance services, in-cluding academic and career guidance. Library and Learning Resource Centre The CBS Library is the country’s principal re-source for business economics and related areas, providing a comfortable and impressive environ-ment in which to study. You will be able to take advantage of the numerous student facilities, including multimedia labs, group study rooms and personal computers. The Learning Resource Centre is a part of the library and has over 200

PC’s, as well as many free software packages that enable information from around the world to be accessed. The library is open on weekends and until late on weekdays, allowing you the opportu-nity to pursue your studies for as long as you like. Accommodation and Transport

Since Copenhagen is a major city, finding student housing may be a challenge. CBS Housing has limited accommodation available on and around campus, and as a result of high demand our rooms are allocated to international students on a first come first served basis. The metro system covers the whole of campus via three separate stops. However, most students choose to rent or buy a bicycle when they arrive in Copenhagen. The city has a highly developed network of bicy-cle lanes, making it a very safe, convenient and cost effective way to get around.

Getting Settled

If you choose to come to CBS, you will find a wide variety of resources and assistance available to you. Staff in the Admissions Office, International Marketing and Recruitment, Student Guidance Services and your academic programme can assist you depending on the type of assistance you need. Throughout the academic year, various activities and workshops have been planned to give you an insight into Danish culture, settling in Denmark, the educational system and CBS exam procedures. These events will also give you

(22)

a great chance to meet other students and help you to expand your network of friends at the school.

Working in Denmark

As an international student at CBS, you are legally allowed to work up to 15 hours a week in a part-time job. This gives you a chance to find a student job and earn some extra money along-side your studies. CBS maintains a job forum on its intranet, in order to connect you with part-time student employment. As an actively enrolled CBS student, you will also have the opportunity

to get career counselling for your future career by trained CBS staff. You can discuss your career opportunities, application and CV with a profes-sional counselor and get individual feedback. Counselors can also offer information and coach-ing on how to conduct your job search through different channels. CBS has close ties to its Career Partners, giving these industrial heavyweights access to the talent pool at CBS, as they seek out their employees of the future. This means that at CBS, you are never far away from a real life com-pany and a real life recruitment situation.

CBS is a university located in modern and ar-chitecturally acclaimed complexes in the heart of Copenhagen – the Danish capital with more than 1.7 million inhabitants, four universities and several other research institutions. As Denmark’s administrative, financial and cultural centre, Co-penhagen is currently its largest growth area. Copenhagen is just 25 minutes from Sweden in what is collectively known as the Øresund Region. This has rapidly become one of the most dynamic business regions in Europe. The region is liberally sprinkled with world-class innovative environments and has a well-developed relation-ship between industry and higher education. Modern Meets Tradition

Copenhagen was founded more than 800 years ago and combines the age-old charm of its me-dieval origins with the vibrant life of a modern European metropolis. With a network of car-free pedestrian streets and cobbled squares, Copen-hagen has a liveable and atmospheric downtown area with cafés, cinemas and museums, as well as Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping street. Numerous independent studies have shown that Copenhagen is one of the safest cities in the world. This means that you do not have to worry about staying out at night or visiting the many different areas in and outside the city centre.

Since most Danes speak English, you will find it easy to communicate and navigate this wonderful city.
