Introduction:
This is a brief guide to enrolling an android device on the Afaria Device Management System. Afaria only supports Android version 2.3 and beyond.
Pre-requisites:
3G orGPRS or
Wi-Fi enabled on the device to be enrolled
Enrollment:
(1) Receiving credentials: There are three ways one can enroll an android device on Afaria –

1) Your mobile browser will direct you towards a link. You will then be prompted to download .xml file. Hit ‘Save ‘

‘download’ folder and find the ‘MobiDMSeed.xml’ file and click on it.Mobile Device Management

then go directly to step 2 – ‘Download the MobiDM app’ (refer screenshot). It will take you to the Android market and prompt you to download the MobiDM app.
Downloading the MobiDM client: After you are directed to the MobiDM android market page, hit
‘Download’(picture # 1). The system will then prompt you to grant the required permissions. Hit ‘Accept & download’ (picture # 2).

Once the download is complete, hit ‘Open’.The system will attempt to check the presence of seed in your mobile device (picture # 1) and then take you to the enrollment page. You would need to enter only your password; all other credentials will be already present. In case your credentials are not present, you would need to enter your username and your password and hit ‘Submit’ (picture # 2).

The system will then direct you to the Device Administration page & prompt you to activate MobiDM as your Device Administrator. Hit ‘Activate’
The system then attempts to authenticate your login credentials (picture # 1) & then takes you to the android market again and prompt you to download Sybase Afaria client (picture # 2).

Your device will then start downloading Sybase Afaria client (picture # 1). Once download is complete, hit ‘Open’ (picture # 2).

The system will then try to connect you to the relay server (picture # 1) and then ask you for your login credentials (picture # 2). Your username will already be present; you would need to enter your password and then hit ‘Ok’.

Once the session successfully complete (picture # 1), exit the screen by pressing the ‘Home’ button on your device. You will observe that both, MobiDM & Afaria have been downloaded as applications (picture # 2).

Via Email:
When the Afaria administrator enrolls your device, s/he can choose to send you an email. Below is the screenshot of the email you will receive
Once you receive this email, please click on the URL and there are two things that can happen –

You will be guided to the HTML Viewer and prompted to click on the link that will guide you to the android market to download the Sybase Afaria client and the MobiDM client.

You can choose to enroll your device yourself via the ‘Self Service’ method. Enter mdm.mobilemanager.net/start in your web browser
