Introduction

In 2006, Amazon®_{launched Amazon Web Services}®_{(AWS) to offer IT infrastructure services in the form}

of web services to businesses looking to instantly spin up hundreds or thousands of servers in minutes and deliver results faster.

Now, web services are commonly known as cloud computing and one of their key benefits is the ability to replace up-front capital infrastructure expenses while being able to scale your business. With the cloud, businesses no longer need to plan for and procure servers and other IT infrastructure weeks or months in advance.

Today, Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. With data center locations in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, and Australia.

Enterprises moving to the cloud or expanding operations require more flexible and powerful email solutions that go beyond the standard Hosted Exchange packages. Few cloud service providers are offering flexible deployment options for Exchange, including managed public cloud, private cloud or hybrid cloud, which allow enterprises to pick whichever option best suits their IT needs.

What is Dedicated Cloud?

According to Gartner Research2_{, a dedicated cloud (private or single-tenant cloud) is a form of cloud}

computing that is used by only one organization and helps to ensure that an organization is completely isolated from others . With a dedicated cloud, multiple customer accounts do not reside concurrently on the same infrastructure. A dedicated cloud environment is built exclusively for a single organization and implemented for a defined set of users.

Managed Shared vs. Dedicated Cloud solutions

Intermedia gives customers and partners the freedom to focus on business, not IT, and we do it by offering Hosted Exchange and a suite of essential cloud IT apps with a single point of control. Intermedia offers two cloud models: Managed Shared cloud and Managed Dedicated cloud.

In Intermedia’s Managed Shared (public cloud) model, we provide access to the infrastructure as well as services for monitoring and managing the operating system, applications and middleware. In this model, the cloud infrastructure is hosted in Intermedia’s datacenters and the networking, storage and computer resources can potentially be shared among multiple subscribers as a multi-tenant environment.

In Intermedia’s Dedicated Cloud, also known as single-tenant or private cloud, the infrastructure is not shared. Access to the dedicated cloud is limited to a specific organization and implemented for a defined set of internal users. This deployment option allows integration between Exchange and third-party applications, as well as provides more customization options for security and disaster recovery. Additionally, customers who deploy Intermedia’s Dedicated Exchange service receive a dedicated Technical Account Manager and centralized management though our proprietary control panel, HostPilot®_.

What are the steps to follow to customize your Dedicated Exchange on AWS?

• Finding the right IT offering. Once we have finished the analysis of your specific IT requirements,

• SOW – Statement of Work for the client. The entire purpose of the process is not to ‘build to

order’, but to ensure all parties agree to what is being built, what can be implemented, and that the entire project is feasible, reasonable, and likely to meet disclosed requirements. Our Sales Engineering team prepares proposal to meet Operations, and customer requirements.

• Implementation and migration. Intermedia’s migration team make sure we successfully migrate

your current email solution to Exchange. Our Cloud Concierge team migrates 10-15,000 mailboxes per month and we’ve developed numerous proprietary migration tools that we deploy alongside 3rd-party tools to migrate email from virtually any source environment.
