Weekly Reflection —Today’s readings challenge us to take a look at our priorities. It is natural to want the

“good life” but we can become so focused on getting

“things” that we miss what is really important. Reflect on what gives you the greatest joy. Think about some of the “things” you desire, a particular car, a house, some jewelry, whatever it may be that you wish you had. Consider how those things affect what gives you joy? Are you so busy accumulating things that you have no time to spend with family and friends—or God?

If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Psalm 95:7

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Hello everybody,

Well, we have reached a new milestone together; one whole month! Wahoo! I certainly feel so blessed to be a part of our parish family and I need to say thank you once again for all the prayers and love that you have sent me. May we continue to keep one another in our prayers so that we may journey just a little closer to Christ together. It is such a joy running into folks at the grocery stores and in the parks; please keep saying hello as I continue to learn so many beautiful faces and names.

This week’s Gospel is one that I always find a bit chal- lenging to read. Naturally we all want to prepare for the future, from planning our vacation days to making sure our household budgets hold so that we can save for retirement. I think we all can relate to that desire to hold on to what we have and plan for our riches to grow. Jesus reminds us very starkly this week that as wonderful as this world is, it is fleeting. If we find our- selves relying too heavily on the things of this world, we will soon be up for disappointment. We only need to look upon the events of two weeks ago to remember.

When the storm came through and the lights went off, how many of us struggled with what to do? Even once the electricity was restored, I know many were still without cable and internet, wondering what exactly it was they were to do with themselves. God uses these moments in our life to disrupt us and have us call to mind what is really important. Rather than catching up on the latest Netflix, perhaps we had an opportunity to dust off Monopoly and play with our family and heav- en forbid, talk with one another. May we rely not on the conveniences of this world, but root our hearts in the reality that is the Lord and His tremendous love for us. Our Gospel today had the farmer enlarge his build- ings only to be called home to the Lord and never reap the benefits of his labor. May our priority be building up our home in Heaven, as we know our time here on earth is temporary. Only in heaven do we encounter real eternal joy.

May God bless you always, Fr. Hennes

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

ST. JOSEPH PARISH

Celebration of Ministry—St. Joseph Parish members, staff and councils recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit in calling forth Cindy Mazoch and all those who helped to organize and work at this year’s rummage sale. Your hard work resulted in a wonderful fundraiser for our parish. How is the Holy Spirit calling you to use your gifts for our community?

Wee Worship Catechists—We are looking for 12 people willing to lead Wee Worship once every two months! This formation program for 3-5 year old chil- dren (potty trained) runs during the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

We provide all the materials and lesson plans. We only have 2 catechists right now. This program allows parents to be fully present at Mass and helps our “wee ones” learn about Jesus from their earliest days. The group is not large, and we try to have 2 people volun- teer for each session. Please give some thought to this appeal and contact the new religious education director Mary Testin, at 715-341-1617 x114.

Thank You for thinking of Community Friends in your yearly tithing. A large portion of our budget is spent on transportation. With your donation, monthly activities with transportation are possible.
