Hundreds of years of history,

one united future

Since TenCate was founded over 300 years ago, we have grown and acquired many companies. Over the past few years we have successfully implemented a strategy to consolidate and develop our core markets, which has made us stronger and more competitive. To this end, we have also consolidated our brand portfolio and unified the group under one brand, with a clear positioning and visual identity introduced in this brochure. With all businesses and products aligned under a common brand, we will build a stronger and more distinctive position in the market. To build a powerful TenCate brand, it is essential that we all share a common under-standing of its fundamentals: why our new brand was created, what it stands for and what we aim to achieve with it. Our new brand will better reflect the modern and dynamic company we are and match our aspiration to be the best in the businesses in which we operate. It will make us a more attractive company to work for. And, above all, it will send a strong message to our customers, clarifying who we are and how we can contribute to their businesses. Our success in building a strong TenCate brand will depend on each of us embracing it and proudly representing it in the market.

Towards one TenCate brand

The branding process involved a detailed evaluation of our existing brand portfolio with all stakeholders.

Based on the evaluation, a recommendation was made to reduce the number of corporate brands maintained within the Group to one, namely TenCate. It was deemed that the “Royal” should be dropped from our corporate logo, although the official name of the company will remain unchanged.

The selection of one corporate brand should not be viewed as an intention to change the Group’s governance principles or manage-ment philosophy. Much of the success of our Group can be attribu-ted to our decentralized management structure, where we firmly believe that allowing the business units to have significant indepen-dence in running their operations brings focus, flexibility and accountability.

Branding is a long-term strategic investment, intended to yield returns on many fronts. It will broaden our recognition in the customer segments that our businesses share, lower overall brand manage-ment costs, and serve as an incentive to pool our resources. The result will be a stronger, united TenCate. Internally, a single TenCate brand will symbolize our goal to increase cooperation and efficiency. Its role is to inspire all of us, making TenCate a company we all can be proud of.

A common name and logotype are critical. They serve as the glue that makes TenCate a unified force with common objectives. With all elements in place, the TenCate brand will be a business driver, supporting sales in all our businesses.

The corporate logo is an important visual element. Consistancy in TenCate’s logo is essential to the successful implementation of the TenCate identity system. TenCate’s logo is never to be altered from the examples in this manual.

1.1 TenCate visual identity

The fundamental component of the TenCate visual identity is the TenCate Logo. The subsidiary elements of the visual identity system include the Corporate colors and Corporate Typefaces.

Logo

When updating our corporate logo, three fundamental requirements were defined:

- It is powerful - It is easy to use

- It is identifiable as “TenCate”

Our new logo meets these requirements in several ways, but primarily from the fact that we have retained and strengthened our weaver’s knot, and combined it with our own unique strong corpo-rate logo font. Its simplicity makes the logo stand out. It is a clear differentiator in the crowd of logos and symbols currently in use in our industry.

1.2 Corporate logo

The Corporate symbol, letterforms and the relationship between the characters of the TenCate logo have all been specially designed and should under no circumstances be changed.

1.2.1. Bounding box

The TenCate logo should always be surrounded by a Clear Zone also called ‘Bounding box’. The Clear Zone allows the TenCate logo to stand apart from other images and/or text and therefore to appear clearly visible and authoritative at all times.

The ‘Bounding box’ is defined by the height of the lettering whitin the panel, the ‘X’ height.

1.3 Logo with tagline

We want to be known for the difference we make, this is the focus of our tagline. This version of the logo can be used on advertise-ments and brochures. Do not use this version of the logo on, for example, paperline i.e. business cards etc.

The sizes of elements are related to each other and are based by ‘X’ height. The tagline is positioned on a distance ‘X’ from the baseline. The height of the tagline is defined by 1/3 ’X’

Bounding box

The ‘Bounding box’ is defined by the height of the lettering within the panel, the ‘X’ height.

General remark

Don’t use the tagline in combination with our productnames, the sentence ‘materials that make a difference’ should never be altered. Corporate brand and tagline are positioned in a fixed grid and should

1.4 Logo with subbrand

The sizes of the elements are related to each other and are based by ‘X’ height. The Subbrand is positioned at the top of the ‘X’ height of the tagline. And it’s baseline is positioned on a distance 3 ‘X’ from this position.

The ‘Bounding box’ is defined by the height of the lettering within the panel, the ‘X’ height.

1.5 Use of the Corporate logo

The TenCate logo is used primaraly on a white background. An exeption is the use of pms 7530. This can be used as a background color, but only when it has a color intension of 20% or less.

The black and white logo is built up with grayscales. It should only be used on a white background.

1.5.1 Minimum reproduction size

The TenCate logo should always be reproduced as illustrated on this page. No atttempt should ever be made to draw, modify or re-scan the TenCate logo in any way.

The minimum reproduction size for the logo is 30mm. The only possible exception is when the logo has to be applied to promotio-nal items.

1.5.2 Incorrect use of logo

The TenCate logo should always be respected as to form, color and application. It is important that the logo is never modified or compo-sed in the wrong way, as shown in the following examples.

Maintain the original colors. Do not chance the Corporate colors.

made the difference Bolivar Peninsula on the Texas Gulf Coast suffered large amounts of beach erosion mostly caused by tropical storms and hurricanes. In 1998 alone, 35 homes were lost as a result of beach erosion. In 2000, community ofﬁcials decided it was time to stop beach erosion once and for all.

The decision was made to build a coastal protection system based on Ten Cate Mirafi® geo-tubes and geo-textiles. The sand-filled geo-tubes form the core of five miles of new sand dunes, covered with sand and vegetated to blend in with the natural environment. In 2001, tropical storm Allison battered the peninsula but no homes were lost. Beach erosion was stopped and storm clean-up costs were reduced dramatically. CMYK stands for cyan, megenta, yellow and black. This color build-up system is used for full color printing. It’s important to use the defined Pantone colors (Pantone 295 C) as an important reference for color authenticity.

TenCate uses two typefaces. They have been selected to help us emphasise key benefits and to ensure that all TenCate communications are instantly recognisable.

3.1 Primary Corporate Typeface

An important subsidiary element of the TenCate identity is the Corporate Typeface. The primary Corporate typeface is the Univers. This should be used, in preference to any other typeface, for the majority of text in any document or application.

3.4 Typographic guidelines

When writing communications materials for TenCate, it is important to give careful consideration to typographic and content styling.

Capital Letters

As a general rule, the fewer capital letters, the better. Sentences, names and adjectives denoting nationality begin with a capital, as do proper nouns and trade names.

Emphasising body text

Avoid using italics and underlining. Instead, use different sizes in weight of type to ad emphasis and guide readers.

Document layout

All text and headings should be left-aligned, not centred.

Figures and numbers

Within body copy, one to nine should be written in words; 10 and over should be written as numbers.

Exceptions to this are:

- When a number is followed by the words ‘per cent’

or the % symbol.

- When fractions or decimals are involved.

- When used in conjunction with units of measurement.

Note: There should be no space between the figure and unit of measure.

- When the number must start a sentence.

For example: ‘Fifty one buildings...’

Figures should always be shown to two decimal places. For example 10.00, 11.75 etc.

4.1 General principles

White is the preferred color of paper

Where other paper alternatives are appropriate details are given on the relevant pages.

Typeface

TenCate stationary is typeset in Univers, the primary Corporate Typeface. Alternative typefaces must not be used unless specified.

Typesetting

A number of different typesetting systems are used by typesetters. Not all systems use the same name for a particular weight of type. Nevertheless, it is recommended that all typesetting be checked visually to ensure that it corresponds with the examples given in the specifications.

Dimensions

All dimensions on the following pages are specified in millimetres.

Coreware templates

Coreware templates are available of the shown documents in this chapter, unless specified else.

General remark

Printed matter (other then correspondence) is preffered to print on coated paper. When possible use PMS 295 C as a separate print

Ten Cate completes acquisition of Polyfelt and sale of Permess and Multistiq

Following on from earlier reports, Royal Ten Cate announces that the Polyfelt acquisition process has been formally completed, thus making the takeover a reality. The approval of the competition authorities has been obtained. The acquisition involved an amount of €70 million, which has been ﬁnanced from ongoing credit facilities.

Ten Cate together with Polyfelt occupies a leading position on the global market for geosynthetics. Ten Cate experienced signiﬁcant growth in this market in 2005, particularly in the United States. This is a growth market worldwide, especially in the ﬁeld of water management and the environment. As a result of this acquisition Ten Cate will now be able to offer a wide range of products with high technology support throughout the world. Polyfelt has a sales and distribution network that is spread well geographically throughout Central and Eastern Europe and Asia, where the two organizations complement each other well.

The completion is also announced of the combined sale of the Ten Cate Permess and Multistiq companies. Ten Cate Permess manufactures interlinings for ladies and men’s fashions and sells its products principally in Europe and Asia. Multistiq produces mainly self-adhesive and heat-seal base materials for labels and information carriers and supplies, among others, specialist manufacturers of label materials. The companies are well positioned to develop further independently in their specialist niche markets.

Both transactions support Ten Cate’s buy-and-build strategy, which is aimed at strengthening the strategic base and the acquisition of companies within the ﬁve strategic growth cores: protective fabrics, aerospace composites, antiballistic materials, artiﬁcial grass and geosynthetics.
