Bitdefender Mobile Security

Test Orientation Guide for

(2)

This guide is intended to help beta testers explore our new features and give a sense of what to expect from the product and not to be used as a test plan or test suite.

1.

Best Practice Rules

A few good practice rules for useful feedback:

A. Use a representative title for your feedback.

Using a representative title will help us greatly in processing your feedback and addressing the issue you are reporting in a subsequent update.

B. Give as many details as possible.

One-liner feedback is rarely useful without screenshots, logs, crash dumps or memory dumps. Also, this kind of report will most likely generate a ping pong between you and our team in order to obtain the necessary information to reproduce the bug, so it would be best, if possible of course, to add the steps to reproduce the issue, like first do this and then click on that and this issue will arise.

C. Try not to cramp too many issues under one feedback report.

Having many issues under one feedback, although at first might seem easier to read, after a while it becomes hard to manage so it’s a good practice to file a separate issue for each feedback.

2.

Auto-login

To use Bitdefender Mobile Security (BMS) on your Android, it needs to know who you are and what kind of subscription you have. However, we made that simpler: if you install it straight from the e-mail you receive from Central, it will perform an automatic login. Due to Android's limitations, this feature only works if you open the e-mail from the same Android device on which you want to install Bitdefender Mobile Security.

Follow these steps:

1. Uninstall any Bitdefender security app from your phone;

2. On your computer, sign in to Bitdefender Central and then click "Install Bitdefender", choose "Android -> Mobile Security", "On another device" and enter your e-mail address. This can be different than the e-mail address you used with your Central account;

3. You will receive an e-mail from Central, titled "Your product is ready to install". Open it ON YOUR ANDROID PHONE, tap on "Get App". This will take you to Play Store, on Bitdefender Mobile Security's page. Install the app, then open it.

(3)

Important note: Please make sure that before installing the app :

you joined the Android beta group here ;

follow this

and click on the "Become a Tester" button.

4. What to expect: If you have an Internet connection, you will be auto logged in. A dialog box will pop out, stating that you have been automatically logged in with your Central account.

What can go wrong:

 Please report on Beta Feedback in Bitdefender Central any instance when, after installing the product as described above, BMS has asked you for username or password. Provided you have internet access, this should not happen;

 This scenario only works for the first install of the product. If you remove it and reinstall, or if you install by going to Google Play and installing BMS straight from there, the auto login scenario should not happen, and it is normal for BMS to ask for credentials.

3.

Alternative install

Open the Google Play app and install BMS directly from there, without help from the Central website. You should be asked for a username and a password. Sign in with your Bitdefender Central credentials. A 60 days trial subscription should be available.

Important note: Please make sure that before installing the app :

and click on the "Become a Tester" button.

4.

Google Login

ONLY IF YOU SIGNED IN WITH GOOGLE on the Bitdefender Central website, use the same method when installing BMS straight from the Play Store. Check that you have a valid 60 days subscription in your account.

5.

Remote Scans

Make sure the devices in your household/family are safe even when you're not physically near them!

In Bitdefender Central, select your Android device, click "Protection" in the right side of your screen and perform a "Scan". The status should quickly change to Pending, then Running. After a while,

(4)

when the phone has finished scanning, status should change to "Last scan: N minutes ago" and a short report should appear beneath, in the "Scan" card: Scanned Items, Resolved items etc.

Resolved items should always be 0. Notes:

1. "Scan" scans all the applications including any storage (internal or external – SD Card) you might have.

2. If the web interface seems stuck in "Running" for too long, refresh it once. If the scan lasts more than 15 minutes, reboot your phone and report a bug.

3. You will not see any progress indicator on your phone during the scan.

4. If you have more than 30 apps, try requesting a scan from Central and, AT THE SAME TIME, run a regular scan on your phone (in BMS, go to Malware Scanner and tap SCAN). Report any crashes or inconsistencies.

5. If, after clicking on "Scan" in Central, there is a lag of more than 10 seconds until the status becomes "Pending" or "Running", please report it.

To check how infections are reported, install the EICAR app from the link below. This is a harmless app that is conventionally detected as malware by most antivirus products, as a convenient way to test them:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.extorian.EICARAntiVirusTest&hl=en

After installing the EICAR app, perform a Scan from Bitdefender Central. The "Unresolved items" line should not be “0”.

If you have more than one unresolved items: your phone has viruses. Run a scan on your phone (from the BMS app) and check to see that the number of infections reported by BMS is the same as the number of "unresolved items" above.

Also, uninstall all malicious apps reported.

6.

Advanced scanning

Follow these steps:

1. Set your phone to Airplane mode (so it has no connection to Bitdefender Central); 2. In Central, run a Scan on your phone; the status should remain "Pending";

3. After a while, turn off Airplane mode. After a few minutes, the Central website should update itself with the current status ("Running") and then update the scan details, once it is finished.

7.

Test Anti-Theft

Configure Anti-Theft module (give Android 6 permissions, give admin privileges, set application PIN, and trusted number) then test the functionality:

Once you enabled Anti-Theft on your device, go to Central Website and try a locate command, lock command, send alert, and scream.

8.

Test Snap Photo

Configure App Lock module (set application PIN and select at least one application from the list).  Try to enter in one of the locked applications and enter an invalid PIN code. After 3 incorrect

attempts, a picture will be taken with the front camera and it will be uploaded in your Bitdefender Central Account.

 Go to Central Website, in Anti-Theft tab, and you will see snapshots there.
