Introduction

The Municipal Top provides a detailed analysis of the economic tissue in which your company evolves.

In the first part of the report, we provide not only a geographical analysis, we will also answer the following

questions:

What is the profile of the companies located in your postal code?

What differences are revealed in comparison to the district, the province or the whole of Belgium?

How well does your municipality score compared to the larger local entities with regard to the major

key figures and ratios?

Who are the largest players if we look at turnover, added value or cash flow, who report the largest

profits or the largest investments, who are the major employers, etc.?

What companies did we label a ‘Gazelle’ for their remarkable growth?

In the second part, we provide an insight into the top 10 companies in your postal code, accompanied by

the major key figures and sector medians in one single chart. Each individual analysis is completed with

relevant company information which, in addition to the basic information (address, phone number, e-mail,

website, etc.) also contains the names, positions and e-mail addresses of the main executives along with

an overview of parent and affiliated companies.

The rankings and figures in this report are based on the balance sheets of all companies required to file

annual statements published online by Trends Top.

The indexes show the average company result of the municipality compared to the company averages of the district, the province

and the whole of Belgium.

Geographical

In the next pages we take a look at the geographical dispersion from four different angles:

- On a national level by province

- Specifically for the province where the municipality is located

- On a national level by district

- Specifically for the district where the municipality is located

For each province, district or municipality we provide absolute figures, percentages and averages for

the number of companies in the wider region, the cumulated turnover*, the number of employees

and the added value.

This will not only allow an easier estimation of the municipality’s regional economic importance, it will

also show what role the district or province plays at a national level.

(*) If the company’s turnover is not available, the gross margin is taken into account. For smaller businesses with a condensed

balance sheet publication of turnover figures in their annual accounts is not mandatory.

Analysis

Our detailed analysis provides an insight into the company profile of your municipality’s businesses

based on the parameters Activity (sector), Turnover*, Added Value, Number of Employees,

Establishment Date and rating or overall health indicator.

Each parameter is subdivided into different categories allowing you, for example, to get an instant

overview of the number of local companies active in the transportation sector, that achieve a

turnover of more than one million euro, or employ less than 10 people.

By means of an index we compare the municipality successively to the whole of Belgium, to the

province and to the district, for each given parameter and category. An index larger than 100 means

the municipality is over-represented for that specific category, whereas an index smaller than 100

means under-representation.

The column ‘Share’ shows for each category the percentage of companies established within the

municipality, as a proportion of the overall population in that category for the whole of Belgium, the

province or the district. In other words, it gives an indication of their economic specific gravity.

(*) If the company’s turnover is not available, the gross margin is taken into account. For smaller businesses with a condensed

balance sheet publication of turnover figures in their annual accounts is not mandatory.
