There isn’t a proper taxi service in Val di Sole charging taximeter fares, but it is possible to hire a car with a driver. Fares are calculated on a lump-sum basis depending on distance, route and time. There are no taxi stops and the service is to be asked to and agreed upon with the carriers themselves.

Medical assistance is ensured from Monday to Sunday from 8.00 to 0.00. A fee of Euro 0,00 for surgery visits and of Euro 0,00 for home visits is charged.

Foreigner healthcare: starting on July 1st, 2004, all residents of EU countries will have direct access to the healthcare services provided in other member States by simply submitting their

TEAM card (or an equivalent document). The healthcare forms for members of foreign healthcare organisations (green booklets) are no longer used.

Residents of non EU countries having underwritten specific healthcare agreements with the Eu-ropean Union (Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, former Yugoslavia, etc.) will have to submit to the local healthcare offices the document issued by their native country.

Please note that without a proper healthcare document (TEAM card or native country docu-ment), patients will be charged full current rates, even if they have underwritten a private healthcare insurance policy.

From 8 pm to 8 am, Tourists staying in lower Val di Sole (from Commezzadura to Cavizzana, Val di Rabbi) can contact the Malé Surgery: 04 040

From 8 pm to 8 am, Tourists staying in upper Val di Sole (from Passo Tonale to Mezzana, Val di Pejo) can contact the Pellizzano Surgery: 04 8.

The District of Val di Sole has the power to change the above surgery hours due to par-ticular service needs. Definitive hours will be posted on surgery information boards, the telephone n. and how the service is carried out.

The Marinelli smithy is a rare example of a hydraulic forge in the Alps that is still functioning. The existence of the forge is witnessed by a few written documents dating back to 1880, when it was bought by the Marinelli family, but it was built al least two centuries earlier. The forge, along with other forges and mills, was part of the Pondasio pre-industrial estate, that harnessed the Rabbies water, ingeniously applying the stream’s hydraulic power to the forge, as a replacement of human or animal force. The sound effects and the lights in the forge recall Vulcan’s smithy, as vividly de-picted by Virgilio: air whistling, flames roaring in the forge, red-hot iron squeaking as it is tempered in the water, the noise of the metal beaten on the anvil, that all together are a kind of deep, majestic symphony. The Marinelli forge hosts a millennium-old heritage of technical know-how and human experience and can be regarded as one of the depositories of the secrets of Cyclops and of the illustrious Rhaetian blacksmiths.

Forte Strino is situated along the Tonale road, between Passo Tonale and Vermiglio. Built in 1862, it was part of the region’s fortification system that was developed by the Austrian General Staff soon after Italy’s independence wars, when Trentino became the southern border region of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Fort, that played a forefront role during the First World War, just as the nearby village of Vermiglio, has been recentely brought to light again by patient of digging work and an almost archaeological restoration. Today, nearly 80 years after the events in which it was involved, the Fort has been turned into a historic museum of the “White War”.

“C.Costanzi” Wall: a 5 minute walk to the area called Regazzini, this wall has 40 routes of various levels of difficulty, ranging from 4 to 7c grades (most routes are between 6a and 7a grades). The routes are spiked and perfectly maintained.

Two small sectors, one on rock and the other on artificial panels, are devoted to children and youngsters who want to climb for fun.

FOLGARIDA

“Doss of Saint Brigida” Wall: a 20 minute walk from to area known as Belvedere, in Folgarida. The wall has 12 routes, whose levels of difficulty range from 4 and 6c (most routes are not very difficult).

All routes are spiked and perfectly maintained.

OSSANA

“Sass Pisador” wall: small wall accessible from the village of Ossana, driving on the dirt road road that takes to Val Piana, where you can park. In 15 min, walk, following the path to Val Piana Alm you’ll reach the wall. It offers only 4 trails showing a difficulty between a 4th and 6th level, spiked discretly.

PASSO DEL TONALE

“Paradiso” Wall: This climbing wall is situated right at the arrival station of the Paradiso cable-car, coming from Passo Tonale. There are 15 safely-spiked routes of various levels of difficulty, ranging from 4 and 6c grades.

Ponte Vecchio “Ai Crozi di Cisa” wall: it’s situated in Val De la Mare at about 9 km from Cogolo village. Drive to the junction of Ponte Vecchio Alm and then walk about 15 min. At the present time the trails for climbing are about ten, from the 4th_{to the 6}th_{level difficulty (some itineraries}

show a length till 4 rope pulls). Furthermore, 3 short itineraries of 15 minutes with a difficulty corresponding to a 6b-7a-8a level are available.

What is Nordic Walking

Nordic walking is a new healthy and easy sport, practiced outdoor alone or with others. It brings together the benefits of sport and pure fun and relax. Right for this reason, it is spreading wor-ldwide.

It is perhaps best described as cross-country skiing without the skis (or the snow!). Just like walking, it is an activity that is suitable for all. In fact, the use of poles involves 85% of the muscles but reduces the load on the knees and other joints and cuts down of 30% the physical effort while improving of 46% and 40% respectively the expenditure of energy and the fat-burning process compared to the traditional jogging.

Nordic walking is the ideal activity for those who likes to practice some sport, to keep fit, to loose weight, at any age.

NORDIC WALKING STELVIO PARK PEIO NORDIC WALKING STELVIO PARK RABBI

The two parks feature 21 itineraries distributed between Val di Pejo and Val di Rabbi.

They cross the Stelvio National Park and are divided by difficulty levels and natural environment. A total of 130 km, 68 km in Val di Peio (4 black itineraries, 2 red and 4 blue) and 62 km in Val di Rabbi (3 black itineraries, 6 red and 2 blue).

VAL DI SOLE ROUTE

The Val di Sole Route is a 22 km nordic walking trail that starts in the town of Cavizzana and goes all the way to Mezzana with additional 4 km trails in each of the ten towns. The trail winds its way through ancient paths, roads and trails that were once used by mules. Located on the orographic right side of the Noce river it is immersed amongst the wood and it passes through historically fascinating areas and extraordinary landscapes.

The Val di Sole route therefore has a total of 60 km of trails.

It is worth mentioning the historical and cultural Trail at Terzolas, that starting from the main square, where you will find the Palazzo della “Torraccia”, (a noble residence of the late Renaissance pe-riod) it continues onwards to the Cappuccini Convent and then onto the Rocca of Samoclevo. At the beginning of each municipal trail you will find a board indicating the exact location and a description of the correct movements used for Nordic Walking.

The trails differ from each other according to length, elevation gain and the degree of difficulty. All the trails are however suitable for anyone.

CYCLE TRACK

Val di Sole cycling track mainly runs along the course of the Noce river, following the track of former country roads, by-roads and river bank lanes. The track is m 2,5 wide and paved with small impregnated gravel.

The cycle path could be run:

• from Mostizzolo to Dimaro, then it follows a short stretch of main road; • from Dimaro to Mestriago, it follows a short stretch of main road to Piano;

• from Piano to Mezzana, it follows a short stretch of main road to the Sport Centre of Mezzana • from Mezzana / Sport Centre to Cogolo through the villages of Pellizzano, Cusiano, Ossana. The whole track is 33 Km. long.

MOUNTAIN BIKING ROUTES

Val di Sole offers various possibilities of mountain biking routes, ranging from the easy ones, to the moderately difficult, to end with those recommended for experienced mountain-bikers only. Eurorafting is an association that was established in 1999, whose objective is to create a centre that is able to offer sports services and others, which are able to satisfy the many tourism requests in Val di Sole. The Centre is located in the higher part of the valley, in Cusiano, and this enables us to easily provide service to the major tourism resorts (Marilleva, Tonale, Peio, Madonna di Cam-piglio, Ponte di Legno, Passo del Tonale). The Centre is located amongst a natural 7000m² area, in which a small lake has been created and a solarium zone. In addition, there is also a covered area (200m²) and a bar with all the relative services. Comfortable and large changing rooms, in which it is possible for those that return from our activities, to refresh themselves with a lovely warm shower. Our guests also have the possibility to use, free of charge, all the surrounding area and the barbeque area, in order to fully enjoy the pleasures of life outdoors.
