Thank you for considering Metropolitan State University of Denver as you plan to further your education! This Transfer Booklet is designed for students attending public Colorado community colleges and will provide you with transfer guides which outline the courses that transfer into specific bachelor degrees at MSU Denver.

This booklet is only printed once annually and is subject to change. Electronic versions of these transfer guides are updated regularly and can be found at msudenver.edu/transferguides. A few things to remember about transferring your college credit to MSU Denver:

• Transfer credit is only accepted from institutions that are regionally accredited. • You may transfer up to 64 credits from a two-year institution, up to 90 credits from a four-year institution, or up to 90 credits from a combination of two-year and four-year institutions.

• A grade of C- or better must be earned in each course to consider it for transfer. • Courses must have similar content to courses or subjects offered at MSU Denver. • Your GPA at MSU Denver will not include your grades from any previous institution.

The Transfer Services Office

At MSU Denver, transfer students represent over 50% of new students each year. The Transfer Services Office is here to help you smoothly transition into a four-year program. We know that you may have unique questions and needs regarding your transfer process, so our counselors are available for both walk-ins and appointments in order to:

• Guide you in choosing appropriate courses while you are attending another college or university.

• Assist you with admission requirements and the application process.

• Provide preliminary evaluation of transfer credit, so you will know how your courses will transfer.

• Connect you with an advisor so you can complete your degree as efficiently as possible.

• Serve as a liaison for transfer students.

II. MSU DENVER INSTITUTIONAL TRANSFER GUIDES

Below is the list of MSU Denver majors that have transfer guides that do not have a statewide transfer plan. Students should complete an A.A. or A.S. degree at the community college that include the courses listed in the appropriate MSU Denver transfer plan prior to transferring. To be eligible for the CCHE “60+60” guaranteed transfer program, all required courses listed under a student’s selected major must be satisfactorily completed as part of the AA/AS degree within the 60 semester hours maximum. See your MSU Denver representative for additional information.

If you do not see your degree program listed below, please visit one of the following sections in this booklet: Colorado Statewide Transfer Agreements: pg. 12

MSU Denver Advising Guides (plans that may require transferring before an associate’s degree): pg. 18 Nursing Degree Options: pg. 20

Education Licensure Programs: pg. 21

Find Transfer Guides online: msudenver.edu/transferguides.

Please note that students may NOT use courses having the same prefix as their major discipline or cross listed with their major discipline to satisfy General Studies Arts and Humanities; Historical; Natural and Physical Sciences; Social and Behavioral Sciences I; Social and Behavioral Sciences II; or Global Diversity requirements.

Degree programs with this symbol mean that this degree program is accredited by a specialized accrediting body that has strict standards for the curriculum. Students interested in obtaining an Associate degree and then transferring to MSU Denver to complete a Bachelor’s degree in this program should seek advising from MSU Denver faculty early in their Associate degree program and take extra care with course selection.

III. MSU Denver Individualized Degree Program

The Individualized Degree Program (IDP) offers students the opportunity to propose a major or minor specifically designed to meet their educational goals when those goals cannot be met by formal curricula described in the University catalog. Students interested in this option are invited to contact the Center for Individualized Learning at 303-556-8342 or www.msudenver.edu/cil

IV. Credit for Prior Learning

What is Prior Learning? Prior learning is the term educators use to describe learning that a person acquires outside of a traditional academic environment. Students may have acquired learning through work experience, employer training programs, military training, independent study, non-credit courses and volunteer and community service.

The Center for Individualized Learning organizes the process in which students’ prior learning can be assessed for possible college credit. To learn more about this assessment process and opportunities you may have to earn credit for prior learning, please contact Danielle Forrest, Prior Learning Specialist at 303-556-8342 or visit www.msudenver.edu/cil/priorlearningassessment.

V. Statewide Articulation Agreements and Other Transfer Agreements

The purpose of a statewide articulation agreement is to identify the courses a student must complete as part of an AA/AS degree to be able to complete the designated baccalaureate degree program. These are designed to help students make a smooth transition when transferring. Please see your community college advisor for additional information regarding electives. To view the statewide transfer articulation agreements online, please go to the following website: http://highered.colorado.gov/Academics/Transfers/Students.html
