Attention Home Educating Families! Catholic Schoolhouse is a supplemental program designed to enhance
and add accountability to any homeschool style or structure. More than an academic co-op, Catholic Schoolhouse is a structured program meeting weekly for homeschoolers that
includes chorus, two hours of classroom instruction, hands-on science, art projects, and opportunities for socializing after class. Our Tyler chapter has openings for the 2020/21 school year for ages 2 ½ through high school. Enclosed in the bulletin this week, along with this letter, please find and review a financial summary for 2019. This is a very high-level financial summary, as is this letter of explanation. All parishioners are welcome to inquire in more detail by contacting the Church office or me. All amounts in this letter are rounded to the nearest $1,000 (k) amount.
Total contributions specific to Church operations for 2019 were $422k. This is slightly above our budgeted expectation for contributions of $413k and slightly below 2018 contributions of $434k. Total Church operating expenses for 2019 were $358k versus an expense budget of $384k and 2018 expenses of $406k. So, and again specific only to Church operations, we operated at a net income of $64k for 2019 versus budgeted income of $29k after having operated at a net income of $29k in 2018. Our expenses this year are being aided by reimbursement from Jefferson and Waskom for priest support.
Relative to non-Church operations (cemetery fund, building fund, catholic charities, etc.) we had contributions of $116k in 2019 versus a budget of $198k and 2018 contributions of $138k. Expenses for non-church operations for 2019 were $114k versus a budget of $227k and expenses for 2018 of $126k. So, for non-Church operations we operated at a net income of $2k for 2019 versus a budgeted loss of $29k and a net income for 2018 of $13k.
The result for all operations combined comes to
total contributions of $538k versus budgeted
contributions of $612k and 2018 contributions of $573k. So, in aggregate our 2019 contributions were $7 4k below budget and, unfortunately, even $35k below 2018. However, and again partially due to expense offsets based upon reimbursements from Jefferson and Waskom for priest support, total expenses for all operations for 2019 were $472k versus a budget of $612k and 2018 expenses of $531 k. All of which leads to a net income of $66k for 2019 versus a budget of break-even and a net income of $42k for 2018. Msgr. Zach and his staff continue to run a very tight operation relative to expense control, so we have consequently been able to significantly replenish our operating cash balances. We currently have a total cash balance of $390k.
Our total budgeted contributions for 2020 are $565k which is $27k above contributions for 2018. This is an increase of approximately 5% so please take this into account in your personal financial planning to the degree possible. As always, your continued generosity is deeply appreciated and needed.
