HIRING

AND

RETENTION

OF

GUARDS

BRI incorporates a blanket approach to recruitment. BRI advertises through the My Career and Seek websites and has recently developed a recruitment strategy through Registered Training Organisations and TAFE institutes. Advertising will clearly indicate the various positions required to be filled. Selection will be based upon skill set, experience, attitude, value add capability and appearance. These same criteria will be used in selecting existing staff members who have a proven track record with the company, particularly in relation to the duties required. Employment of existing contractor staff would also be considered based upon approval from the client and the ability for such persons to meet our normal recruitment criteria.

BRI’s recruitment criteria stipulates that prior service in Police, Military Service and Emergency Response disciplines, or personnel who have a proven record in commercial guarding, loss prevention, crowd control or concierge duties, is a prerequisite.

Due to our multi-layered recruitment program, 1 of the key elements of assessment is the ability to communicate well both in written and verbal means, as well as being presentable. The multi-layered recruitment program is a five stage approach.

BRI also employs a number of attraction and retention strategies, which include:

ATTRACTION STRATEGIES

Layered and thorough recruitment process

Careful consideration to KSC and Job Design

Layered probity and reference checks (i.e.

social media, personal, professional etc.)

RETENTION STRATEGIES

Flexible approach to rosters

Layered workforce engagement

Open Door Policy

RISK

MITIGATION

Each site that BRI operates at has unique risks associated with the type of work carried out in the environment. We will have an opportunity to analyse hazards which will be highlighted during discussions, meetings and research on the environment and physical layout of each site and will identify areas of risk which our personnel may encounter on a regular basis.

The second phase (prior to transition) would be to undertake a Protective Security and Safety Risk Review, analyzing the results and then implementing treatment options identified in the review. This would then culminate into a Safety Management Plan.

BRI relies upon the processes as adopted by Australian Standard AS/NZS 4360 to assess:

Identification of hazards or threats

(8)

The likelihood of the identified hazard or threat occurring

The consequence or impact of the hazard actually occurring

The associated risk analysis without additional treatment controls being implemented (i.e. Inherent Risk)

What measures (Treatment Controls) can be applied to minimise the risk

How will the risk be affected if the treatment controls are implemented (i.e. Residual Risk)

Develop site specific instructions or implement companywide safe work practices to either eliminate or control risks identified during the review.

INNOVATION

AND

VALUE

ADDS

BRI has developed numerous initiatives over the years which have proven to be very successful in securing contracts and allowing us to renew those contracts because we have exceeded our contractual obligations. An example of this was our recent negotiations with QV Property Management where we secured an 11 year contract to provide services to the prestigious Queen Victoria Precinct.

BRI operates in a very competitive market and has built a reputation for being innovative in its approach to meeting customer expectations and in providing tailored solutions to our clients’ security management programs. Examples of such innovations and their benefits include:

Insynergy – Risk Management Software Program: Reduction in insurance and incident claims through the

identification of incident and claim analysis and better management of claims.

Risk Management Consulting: Proposed installation of CCTV resulting in a reduction in guarding services of

approximately $300,000 pa

Site Specific Induction Training Based on Established Competency Standards: Providing competency based

training has resulting in greater retention of security personnel and a reduction in turnover of staff, ultimately resulting in high level of contract conformance to KPI’s.

Guard Tour Management System: The installation of a guard tour management system has resulted in greater

accountability and provided higher level of service delivery through the tracking of guard patrols. Additionally, this has also provided the organisation with an additional layer of auditing.

SERVICE

DELIEVERY

IN

REGIONAL

AREAS

BRI currently provides services across all states and regions. Our current client base in Victoria stretches across most regional centers and right through to remote locations.

AD-HOC

SERVICES

Ad – hoc services are generally outsourced in regional and remote locations through strategic partnerships that are managed in accordance with BRI’s contractor management system and our Internal Management System. The BRI Contractor Management System is a portal whereby contractors are issued job specific training modules and allowed to submit all governance documentation for compliance purposes.

REGULAR

SERVICES

Where regular and ongoing services are required, BRI will recruit staff specifically in the area, as BRI policy stipulates that core contract requirements cannot be outsourced. This would be managed in the same manner as contracts within metropolitan regions. A Client Service Manager would be allocated to the account and be responsible for the direct interface between the lead department and our employees.

Although contractors are utilised at times for infrequent and ad-hoc services, BRI does not abrogate our responsibilities in terms of management of subcontractors, clients or service delivery.
