Sr. Java/Scala Engineer
Internet of Things, IoT, is a true digital revolution. Predictions of 20, 50 or 100 billion connected devices in 2020 are pointing to massive changes for people and industries. Digitization of the entire world of Things will be the core of the Next Internet, however, it is happening now, not in 2020. Samsung, through multiple initiatives, and at many different levels (from hardware to software to services), is positionned to play a fundamental role in that revolution.
SSIC (Samsung Strategy and Innovation Center), created in 2012 to push innovation within the company to new levels, is forming an IoT team dedicated to the software and services aspects of IoT. This team is building a cloud platform to enables a true cross-‐ service, cross-‐device IoT world, and especially, one with an ultimate goal: to make people's life and health better thanks to technology, and bring magical user experiences we all have dreamt of through science fictions books or movies over the past decades.
We are a small agile team of highly motivated and smart people who are working on building this platform to enable production products as well as demos. Since IoT is all about data: collecting, transporting, processing, analyzing, taking actions upon them, and all that at unprecedented volume and scale, this platform is a complex system requiring cutting-‐edge big data and real-‐time technologies.
The opportunity
We are looking to add a strong Senior Software Engineer to our team to work on all aspects of the platform like data collection, processing, storage, APIs. This is the time to join while the team is still small (<10) and be part of it core. You will work on huge datasets to enable highly complex applications for distributed and parallel systems using the latest JVM and Big Data technologies.
A seasoned, highly-‐motivated Senior Software Engineer, you will help to decide upon technology choice through R&D and prototyping.
You are a strong coder and not afraid to tackle langages, systems and tools you don't know and help on projects outside of your area when needed. There is no "box" in our team and versatility is a quality that we truly enjoy for ourselves and expect from others.
Our group is an extremely fast-‐paced environment with high demands on our engineers. A successful candidate will have had experience in such an environment and has high standards set for their own delivery of quality in everything that they do.
Working from the Menlo Park office 100% of the time.
-‐Take ownership of systems and maintain responsibility for your code throughout the software lifecycle.
-‐Rapidly fix bugs and solve problems.
-‐Identify and address application and system performance bottlenecks. -‐Disciplined approach to testing, quality assurance and operational concerns. -‐Change is not a problem.
-‐Always learning new stuff.
-‐Strong commitment to software development best practices and code quality.
-‐Love to participate in and help improve key processes including software requirements, software design, code review, and testing.
-‐Stay abreast of technology trends, and share with the team. -‐Document everything because you know it is essential.
Qualifications
-‐BS/MS/PhD in CS, data/information science or related technical field. -‐Excellent Java/Scala skills
-‐Advanced Computer Science knowledge and background (algorithms, distributed systems, low latency, concurrency, machine learning, big-‐O notation etc.).
-‐Experience with big-‐data infrastructures and softwares a plus. -‐Familiarity with Kafka, Zookeeper, Play Framework a plus.
-‐Proven ability to work in a startup-‐like environment with little supervision.
