Tablets are increasingly becoming the primary digital screen for viewing videos. eMarketer forecasts that there will be 149 million US tablet video viewers by 2018, up from 113 million in 2014. By the end of this forecast period, 45% of the US population will watch video content on tablets at least once per month. The tablet market is exploding. The unique combination of screen size, screen proximity and attentiveness makes tablets one of the most effective platforms for publishers and marketers to engage with users in a truly personal way. Because of this, tablets have emerged as an incredibly lucrative platform within digital marketing. With their large screen size and inherent interactivity, tablets are the perfect device for delivering high-quality video ads. Studies show that tablets are particularly effective at driving brand lift – especially awareness, purchase intent, brand favorability and recall.

In July 2014, Nielsen added mobile measurement to its OCR measurement offering (referred to as “mOCR”). Nielsen’s traditional OCR and mobile OCR enable advertisers to measure exposure to their digital advertising campaign against various demographics, enabling “TV-like” reporting for cross-screen digital campaigns. TV advertisers are looking for digital channels in which to extend reach and frequency and gain efficiencies for high-demand broadcast demos. The ability to measure delivery of digital campaigns to desired demographics brings parity to traditional TV and digital video, and, consequently, OCR has seen strong traction among traditional brand advertisers.

Because of this, more and more advertisers are looking for tablet app inventory they can count on. Tablets are commanding premium CPMs, and, according to eMarketer, tablet CPMs are anywhere from 33% to 55% higher when compared to mobile.
