PINEAPPLE

One of the most prized and popular fruits, pineapple or

"ananas" has an interesting history to narrate. Originally

indigenous to local Paraguayans in South America, it spread

from its native land by the local Indians up through the

South and Central Americas and to the West Indies. Later,

it was brought to Spain when Columbus discovered the

Americas in 1493. In the 15th and 16th centuries, it spread

to the rest of the world by the European sailors, who

carried it along with them to protect themselves from

scurvy, a disease caused by the deficiency of vitamin C.

Pineapple contains a proteolytic enzyme bromelain that

breaks down protein in food. Bromelain also has

anti-inflammatory, anti-clotting and anti-cancer properties.

Studies have shown that consumption of pineapple regularly

helps fight against arthritis, indigestion and worm

infestation.

The Healing Benefits of Chicken Soup

Did you know that there are scientific studies that show that

chicken soup really has medicinal value? Not only does chicken

soup with vegetables contain lots of healthy nutrients, increases

hydration and tastes good but researchers have shown that the

hot soup helps increase the movement of nasal mucus and does

a much better job than just plain hot water. It also improves the

function of protective cilia, the tiny hairlike projections in the

nose that prevent contagions from entering the body. Chicken

protein provides a good source of cysteine - an amino acid

chemically similar to a drug known as acetylcysteine, which can

clear mucus. So not only is chicken soup the ultimate comfort

food but it retains the name: “Grandma’s Penicillin”.

Some cause happiness wherever they go:

others, whenever they go.

At every party, there are two kinds of

people - those who want to go home and

those who don’t. The trouble is, they are

usually married to each other.

~ Ann Landers
