Would you like to work as a crèche worker, child or adult care worker, counsellor or teaching assistant? If you do, our high quality professional courses will help you achieve your ambitions. Work placement Applicants for childcare and teaching assistant courses at level 2 and 3 must be in a suitable work role or placement and we will need a letter from your school or setting to confirm this before you can enrol. You will also need a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. We can arrange this for you. A placement is not necessary on lower level courses but is extremely useful.

Employability and apprenticeships
Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to work for a real employer, earn a real salary and gain recognised qualifications whilst gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. Apprenticeships last for a minimum of one year.Already found a job?
Congratulations! You may be able to convert it into an Apprenticeship. Speak to your employer and check that they are happy to discuss the idea of you becoming an apprentice. They will need to provide workplace training and support you throughout your apprenticeship. Your employer may be eligible for a grant. If you are not ready for an apprenticeship, there are other pre-employment options including Traineeships. Traineeships prepare young people aged 16 to 24 (25 for young people with Learning Difficulty Assessments) for their future careers by helping them become ‘work ready’. They will last anything from six weeks to six months with the content tailored to your individual career needs, including: }work preparation training which ensures you are ready and have confidence to take the first step in your career, such as an apprenticeship }maths and English support to help give you the skills needed for the workplace }meaningful work experience which provides insight and experience of the world of work. Traineeships are a stepping stone to future success and increase your opportunities in the job market. Find out how Traineeships can help you get ready for work.
Employability
Our free, one day employability workshops are intended for people who are unemployed, looking for their first job, need help to return to work or develop their career. The workshops will help you write a winning CV and personal statement for job applications and develop your confidence and interview skills. To join an Employability workshop you must: }have lived in the UK/EU for three years or more }be at least 19 years old }have a good level of spoken and written English and basic computer skills. The workshops are run throughout the year at our Mildmay Learning Centre in Ilford Town Centre. Please phone us on 020 8514 0569 or 020 8550 2398 for a copy of our IT and employability brochure, details of forthcoming workshops or to book a place. Details about the workshops can also be found on our website. The core components of an Apprenticeship framework are: }a nationally recognised vocational qualification }a technical qualification from an awarding organisation }other professional qualifications as required for your particular job role }functional skills including English, maths, and ICT.What apprenticeships do Redbridge Institute offer?

Our ESOL courses are held at different times and in different locations in Redbridge and generally match local school terms. All new learners must attend an interview before joining an ESOL course.
If you would like more information about our ESOL courses or to make an appointment to meet with one of our tutors please contact us on 020 8550 2398 or email us at [email protected]. More information about our ESOL courses can be found on our website, www.redbridge-iae.ac.uk.
We offer a range of intensive ESOL courses for Jobcentre Plus clients referred to us by their Jobcentre Plus adviser or Work Coach. The courses are designed to meet job seekers’ language needs alongside developing employability skills such as completing job application forms, job searching, using the internet, making appointments and reading letters and emails. At the end of the course learners may progress to a higher level course to continue learning on a part-time basis while working or looking for work. If you are interested in joining one of our courses, please speak to your Adviser or Work Coach. Courses are held throughout the year at our centres in Gants Hill and Ilford
Is English your second language? Do you need to improve your language skills for your work or to access higher education? If you have a minimum level 2 then our Preparation for IELTS courses will help you improve all your language skills and further develop your grammar and vocabulary. You will have training in IELTS exam practice and techniques to get the score you need for your studies and professional certification. You will have to attend an interview and assessment before joining your course. Interviews are being held from July 2015 for courses starting in September. The Access to Higher Education (Access to HE) Diploma is a full level 3 qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE course could be for you.
Our Access to HE courses start in October, can be completed in one year and are available in the following subjects: }business management }early years }health and related health professions. An Access to HE Diploma course involves completing a certain set of units of study relevant to the overall Diploma subject. The whole package of units is designed to equip students for university level study in that subject area. The detailed course content on individual courses depends on the subject of the Diploma, but all Access courses: }require study of relevant academic subject(s) at university entry level }give students the opportunity to learn how to approach study at university level and develop techniques to help them to be successful students. The Access to HE Diploma is assessed mainly by coursework completed by students throughout the course. A range of assessment methods are used, according to the subject, including essays, presentations, research projects and exams.
Entry requirements
You must be aged 19 or over and you will need GCSE A-C grades in English and maths or a nationally recognised equivalent such as Functional skills. If you do not meet the levels required we can refer you to our Skills for Life team who can advise you on courses to help you gain these qualifications. In exceptional circumstances you may be able to study a GCSE alongside your Access Diploma. The Access to HE Diploma is widely recognised by UK universities. We have partnerships with Birkbeck University and the University of East London (UEL) who both actively encourage applications from Access to HE students. UEL provide enrichment opportunities for our Access learners at their Stratford Campus including an induction programme and progression opportunities to help you gain a place at the university of your choice. You can apply to any university with your Access Diploma. To apply for a place on one of our Access to HE courses you will need to discuss the course and whether Access to HE is suitable for you with one of our Advisers. Please email bharat.dasoar@ redbridge-iae.ac.uk for an appointment.Financing your Access Diploma
If you are 24 and over you may be eligible for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. If you successfully complete your Access Diploma and then go on to university and complete your undergraduate programme then your 24+ Advanced Learning Loan balance will be written off once you have completed your degree. There is no money to be paid in advance and the loan only becomes repayable once you are earning over £21,000 per year. Students under 24 on 1 September 2015 without a full level 3 qualification will not have to pay a fee if they are eligible for public funding. Detailed information on eligibility and financing an Access Diploma can be found in our Enrolment and fees booklet available on our website.

Please contact us to check if this is the case and for details of enrolment times and dates.Course levels
Entry level Entry level courses provide an introduction to the subject being studied. They are intended for people with no qualifications and are suitable for those interested in learning new skills or subjects. Learners can progress to Level 1 after completing their course. Level 1 Level 1 courses allow learners to gain skills that will help with getting a job or qualification and provide the foundation needed to learn at Level 2. These courses give a good introduction to a general area of work, and combine practical hands-on activities, project work and key skills. Level 2 These courses are intermediate level and are an ideal route into a career or opportunities to get qualifications in preparation for study at a higher level. Most employers use this level as their minimum entry requirement. Progression will be on to qualifications at level 3 or could lead to employment. Level 3 Level 3 courses are equivalent to A-levels. Learning at this level is challenging with courses offering solid preparations for a career or further and degree level study. Level 4/5 Levels 4 and 5 courses are the same as the early years at university and learners are expected to work on their own with very little guidance and solve complex problems and tasks.Fees and costs
Concessions
Course fees are shown in the course listings earlier in the Course guide. There may be additional costs associated with a course, for example for materials and specialist equipment or tools. Please check the course fact sheet or contact us for details. Some courses may be free or available at a concessionary rate. You may be eligible for a reduced course fee: }if you have lived in the EU for three or more years }if you are receiving certain benefits, allowances or tax credits }are aged between 16 and 23. You’ll be able to talk to our tutors and Customer Service Advisers and find out more about our courses and the help and support that should be available to you. Details of our information and advice events can be found on our website or you can call or email Courses marked with the interview symbol (left) require an interview with one of our tutors. An interview will help you decide if a course is right for you or if you would be better off joining another course, possibly at another level. An interview will also give you an opportunity to discuss course fees and any concessions you may be entitled to, the amount of time you will need to commit to learning and identify any additional support, help or advice you may need before deciding to learn with us. Some of our higher level courses are eligible for a 24+ Advanced learning loan – these are shown by the symbol on the left. If you are over 24 years old, you may be entitled to a 24+ Advanced learning loan to cover the costs of these courses.
