Better Data! Better Decisions!

eNETDNC Machine Monitoring

Real-time Machine Monitoring,

Real World Decisions

/

Real World Data.

The eNETDNC machine monitoring system has the ability to collect data directly from the CNC machine. Based on this in-formation the system determines the machine status and reports data real time throughout the organization. The Machine Moni-toring Dashboard displays the status of each machine on the shop floor. This allows managers to react to problems as they occur rather than attempting to diagnose and explain problems based on post-production reports. The flexibility of the Machine Monitoring system helps create focus on the non-productive time and track the causes. In today’s competitive manufacturing environment, machine monitoring provides management with a new tool to analyze and improve their operations. The machine monitoring system has the ability to monitor con-troller-generated data. The system determines the machine status based on this information. The machine may be actively running production parts, or in set-up mode, or idle. If the machine is idle, operators are required to report why it is in that status. This portion of the monitoring system allows companies to track the data most relevant to their operation. The flexibility of the eNET system helps create focus on the non-production time and track the causes. The monitoring set-up screen allows companies to select items critical to their operations. The eNET system allows companies to quantify the amount of time lost, investigate the reasons for the losses and put in place solutions to prevent the occurrence of future time loss problems. The machine-monitoring feature provides instant status of any CNC machine in the shop and allows for collection of real-time production data directly from the machine controls. Using the DNC connection to the machine tool and a special monitoring board, the eNET system is able to monitor the CNC control activity and provide production-relevant information about the machine operation. By monitoring when the spindle is running and how many times the program cycle started, management is able to gain valu-able information about machine utilization. This information is independent of the shop floor data entry. Use of the machine monitoring system is sure to increase the integrity of your manufacturing data. The graphical display allows for easy review of data. For more sophisticated data analysis, the information can be uploaded into Microsoft Excel or similar products. Finally, data collected via the machine monitoring system can be used directly with your shop management software package to further increase the accuracy of your manufacturing data. Machine Monitoring provides management with a new tool to analyze and improve their operations.

Using eNETDNC Machine Monitoring, companies

can measure and track the following information:

• Spindle on time

• True cycle time

• Accurate cycle counts

• Set-up time

• Machine downtime due

to quality, engineering

or material issues

Preventative mainte-nance time

• Tool breakage

• Unscheduled maintenance time

• Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)

eViewer Software

eViewer is companion software designed to work

with eNETDNC Monitoring software to produce

more advanced CNC reporting, such as grouping

multiple machines together with multiple shifts

and generating Detail, Summary or FrontPage type

reports. Reports can be created by Machines, Part

Numbers or by Operator.

eViewer uses Crystal Reports software to generate

reports. This allows end users to customize reports

to suit their preferences and business requirements.

One eViewer seat is included with the eNETDNC

Machine Monitoring system, but you can add as

many eViewer seats as you like. Some examples of

eViewer reports are shown below. These are just a

small sample of the types of report you can gener-ate using this software.

eNETDNC hardware, including eHUBS, eWireless,

xlCONNECT, eRS and FTP or Serial Ports.

eNETDNC is very proud of our ability to offer com-

panies a single, integrated system capable of han-dling all their CNC file management needs. Some

of the newest CNCs on the market today now have

USB ports to communicate CNC files with the CNC

controls. So, eNETDNC is proud to be the first to

offer companies a real file management method of

using the USB port.

The new xlCONNECT-U has a USB port for CNC

file transfers and also has a serial port that allows

users to connect to other eNETDNC hardware such

as eTerminals and eMonitoring boards. The serial

port feature makes the xlCONNECT-U ‘backwards

compatible’, which increases functionality and

reduces the customer’s cost.’

The new xlCONNECT-U unit offers all the same

communication features available on other eNet

family products:

• The operator can only download files from their

proven directory

• A secured upload path with email verification and

automatic file compare

• Printing of CNC files when uploaded or downloaded

Data Collection Using

eNETDNC

PortCNC has introduced eNETDNC,

which allow companies to collect production

data at the CNC machine using the same con-nection as their DNC system.

Collecting production data at the machine allows employees to clock in and out of jobs without leaving their workstations. By adding the E-Terminal to the DNC system, an activity that normally requires operators to travel throughout the shop can be accomplished without taking a step. Data currently collected at PC terminals located in the shop can be communicated from the machine, saving valuable machine time. Bar code scanners can be added to simplify input and improve data quality. The data collection feature makes it possible for companies to specify the data entered into the E-Terminal. This allows the eNETDNC feature to be used with any shop management or ERP system. By configuring the collected data in the comma, tab, space or semi-colon delimited format, the in-formation collected by the eNETDNC system can be uploaded directly into shop floor management packages like Job Boss, Visual Job Shop, DBA or any other system. Using the Data Collection system, compa-nies can request that the following inputs be generated at the machine: 1. Employee Number 2. Job Number 3. Set-up Time 4. Production time 5. Accurate Part Quantities 6. Scrap Parts 7. Scrap Codes Using the DNC system to collect manufacturing data eliminates the need for duplicate systems wired throughout the shop. It keeps the operator focused on the job at hand and reduces the amount of machine downtime. Finally, data collec-tion at the machine improves your shop efficiency and impacts the bottom line.

Additional Features Available

Machine Monitoring

The Machine Monitoring features allows for collection of real-time production data directly from the machine controls. Machine downtimes, cycle times and cycle counts can all be reviewed remotely using the Machine Monitoring feature and your existing network. The graphical display allows for easy review of data. •

Data Collection

I

n addition to the machine monitoring, the eNET DNCsystem can also be configured to include data collection capabilities. With the addition of our E-Terminal, the DNC system can be upgraded to a full-featured data collection system allowing ma-chine operators to communicate job-related information directly from their machines. This data can then be configured to upload into your existing shop floor management system. •

Wireless Connections

In addition to the traditional network connection of your machine tools, we also offer a wireless connection. The wire-less solution can be implemented to include all of the CNC machines or used in combination with the standard installation.

eHUB

eHUB is a reliable, secure and inexpensive method of con-necting your CNC machines by interfacing with your Ethernet network. Each eHUB allows up to 8 serial port connections that connect directly to the ma-chine tool, or are connected to an LCD-based E-Terminal. · Ports: One 10/100 Ethernet interface and eight RS232 serial ports · Supports software or hardware handshake·Ethernet protocol: UDP/IP (utilizes TCP/IP setting of Windows) · Interfaces with existing Ethernet network · Serial port speed from 300 baud up to 153,600 baud·Serial port handshake method: XON/XOFF or CTS/RTS · Built in surge protection for serial ports · Connections: CAT5 cables with standard RJ45Ethernet termination

E-Terminal

(Optional If Necessary) The E-Terminal connects between the eHUB and the machine tool. The E-Terminal assists with uploading and downloading of part programs, provides communication for machine monitoring and data collection. All connections use regular CAT5 cables terminated with RJ45 connectors.

Upload/download part programs

If the CNC controls are unable to send a program, or all the letters in a program name cannot be typed at the control, the E-Terminal is perfect for the job. The E-Terminal can also issue a ‘call’ program used to request a particular part program from the computer or network server and the E-Terminal acts as a data link to the computer. The operator can type in all the letters and numbers for a requested program.

Assisting machine monitoring

E-Terminal is perfect when it is necessary to monitor events related to the machine tool. This may be necessary in instances where the machine tool cannot signal the start of a repair or the control has limited available special codes. E-Terminal then allows the operator to choose an event from its menu. It also immediately returns and displays the acknowledgement from the computer. This increases monitoring accuracy and helps to evaluate the performance of a machine tool.

Data Collecting

The eTerminal can also be used with a CCD scanner for data collection (See more in the section under Data Collection). This function is fully programmable and offers great flexibility when you are deciding which data to collect.

Easy Shop Floor Access!

eNETDNC eNetShell

With eNETDNC, having a PC on the shop floor is usually

not recommended, but in some circumstances, it may

be necessary to have one there. That is where eNetShell

come in. eNetShell works with eNETDNC to allow the

machine operator to set the status of the CNC machine,

see the current status of the CNC, and Send and Receive

CNC Programs to your CNC Machine. All the settings

come straight from the eNETDNC computer. As you

make changes to your eNETDNC software, they auto-matically update at the computer running eNetShell.

Another feature of eNetShell is that you can launch de-fault applications that are setup on our menu. Using file

viewers, CAD viewers or other programs you can access

Setup Sheets, Inspection Sheets, Prints or Documents

that you would like Operators or Setup people to have

access to.

Normally, eNetShell is operated by using a touch screen

monitor and computer located by the CNC machine. This

allows the operator to easily select his current status,

download or upload and view documents simply by

touching the screen.

eNetShell can be added where needed but you can still

have the flexibility to have some CNC’s directly wired or

wireless to eNETDNC. Talk with a eNETDNC represen-tative today to find your best configuration of eNETDNC

Options.
