Old and New Goals

As menƟoned in a previous bulleƟn, my Þrst term as pas-tor of Sacred Heart ended on March 1 of this year. I asked for and received a renewal from Bishop Estévez. It is amazing how fast six years have gone by. I was

blessed to follow Fr. Donal Sullivan who led this church for many years. I appreciate his kindness in the transi-Ɵon. His generosity by celebraƟng a weekend Mass and covering for my vacaƟons is an on-going encouragement to me. Coming here, my goals were to conƟnue and encourage the excellent leadership exhibited by the members of this parish; celebrate liturgies including homilies well; and not lose the historic connecƟon of our origins in Green Cove Springs and Clay County. I believe progress has been made in these areas. For that I am grateful to the Lord and to you, the members of Sacred Heart parish. One thing I didn’t anƟcipate – but is now vital – is that church will most certainly be diīerent post-pandemic. Our parish moved to new avenues of evange-lizaƟon: live streaming of Mass, the rosary, EucharisƟc adoraƟon, adult educaƟon presentaƟons and bible study. AŌer a year of restricted gathering, a return to full church aƩendance will likely be diīerent. During my next term as pastor, I want to conƟnue working on the goals previously menƟoned. The addiƟon of Fr. Sebas-Ɵán García as a full-Ɵme parochial vicar this past July has been welcome. His presence gives me a brother priest to live and work with. Fr. SebasƟán also provides sup-port in conƟnuing to strengthen the relaƟonship be-tween the communiƟes of Green Cove Springs and Flem-ing Island that make up Sacred Heart Parish. I ask you to consider as you have goƩen to know me these past six years, you have paƟence as we grow in new ways in the days ahead.

EP 1: WHAT DO YOU SEEK?

Episode 6: Am I Saved? What Jesus did for us through his life, death, and resurrecƟon was the greatest act of love in history. He saved us. He did this for each one of us. Personally. But some might feel unworthy of this giŌ of love. We may feel we have too much baggage. We may feel unlovable. But God didn’t come to reveal himself to us on a pedestal—he came to enter into our messy hu-man condiƟon. To Þx us from within. To transform us from the inside out. Some might be surprised by how generous the love of God really is. We don’t deserve God’s love, but that’s the amazing reality of God’s mercy. This relaƟonship with God isn’t all about our love for him. It’s about his love for us that changes our lives forever.

3. Unless you eat of the ßesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood, and drink of his blood, you shall not have life within you.

4. I am the ResurrecƟon, I am the life. If you believe in me, even though you die, you shall live for ever. 5. Yes, Lord, we believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, Who has come into the world.
