LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) in

SPARSH VP Phones

Dear Friends,

This mailer will help you to understand the use of LDAP (Lightweight Access Directory Protocol) in SPARSH VP Phones.

 LDAP is an Application Protocol for accessing and maintaining the distributed directory information services over an IP network

 LDAP is a standard and widely implemented protocol for communication between Directory client applications and directory servers about the data in Directories

SPARSH VP Phones support LDAP client (LDAP V3).

Applications:-

 The organizations that have a corporate directory or a centralized phonebook, can use LDAP Client supported by SPARSH to access and search the Phone book managed in the Centralized LDAP server

 The Phone book of SPARSH VP Phone allows you to store up to 100 Contacts

 Additions and Updates to the Phone book are limited to a single phone only. In order to have the same Contact list in other phones, these additions and updates must be made individually in all other Phones

 A Centralized Phone book has the advantage that all the Phones can access the same directory and all additions and updates are to be made only in a single directory maintained in the LDAP server

Configuration:-

For accessing a centralized Phone book managed in the LDAP Server,

you must first configure the LDAP Server in a PC and then LDAP

Client in SPARSH VP Phones

1.

Configuration for LDAP Server in PC

 To install the LDAP server in Windows 2003/2008 server based PC, you need to enable Active Directory and related parameters, here we will take an example of Active Directory as an LDAP server

 In this mailer, an example of Windows 2008 server is given with some Screenshots

 First of all to enable Active Directory, you need to write ‘DCPROMO’ in the RUN window from START menu

 DCPROMO is the command to configure/modify the settings of the Active directory related parameters

(3)

 You will be navigated to the last step by clicking next and filling up the required details

 This is the Wizard settings, by which you shall be able to enable the Active Directory and its parameters like Domain Name, password, IP address and many other parameters

 Now, you have to choose the Forest Root Domain, if you have already enabled it, then you need to select the option ‘Existing Forest’.

(4)

29/03/2013

 But here we will take an Example of ‘Create a new Domain in a new Forest’

 In the Following window, add the Domain name as per your requirement

 For Example, we have given the below mentioned Domain Name ‘KISHOR.HEMNANI’ for the Active Directory Domain Name.

(5)

 After giving the Domain Name, the system will check whether the Domain name has been previously assigned elsewhere

 If it is not in use already, then it will allow you to proceed further and navigate to the next window

(6)

29/03/2013

 Now, the system will ask you for which version of Windows server you have to install the package of Active Directory

 You need to select the appropriate option

 Here we have installed Windows 2008 Server, so the last option has been selected

(7)

 After selecting the appropriate option based on the OS(Operating system) of the PC, the system will check the DNS server and then after it will ask for the IP address type

 Means how you would like to assign the IP address: Dynamic or Static

 Choose the option according to the network configuration in your office premises

(8)

(9)

 We have created a Domain Name as KISHOR.HEMNANI, now to make it secure; Password protection is required

 So, the next window will be opened for the Password settings

 This is the last step for the Configuration of the Active Directory

 After the confirmation of password, Active Directory will be installed successfully and you will get the following window

(10)

29/03/2013

 When you complete the installation, the Windows will ask you to ‘restart the computer’

 We suggest you to restart your computer

 These were the settings to Install and configure the LDAP server to access the contact numbers programmed in it

 The next step is: how to create the contact numbers in database that can be accessed by the LDAP client (SPARSH VP Phones)

 For that purpose, you need to Open the ‘Active Directory Users and Computers’ from the below mentioned path

(11)

 Clicking on the above link will open the following window; in this window the Domain Name which you have configured will be shown

(12)

29/03/2013

 Here, ‘KISHOR.HEMNANI’ is the Domain name and it is the Main Directory

 To Add the Users and their Contacts, you need to right click on the Main directory and need to follow below mentioned path to create a Contact

 By completing these settings, you will have a User for which

Configuration must be programmed like First Name, Last Name, Initials, Full Name, etc.

(13)
(14)

29/03/2013

 Here we have created a User Name ‘Yogesh Panchal’

 Now User has been created; but to feed the numbers for that User, you need to again right click on particular User Name and go to the Properties as shown in the following screenshot

(15)

 Now, you need to program the Numbers for the User

 Here, we have created a User ‘Yogesh Panchal’ whose Extension Number is ‘5112’

 And that number is needed to be programmed as given in following screenshot

(16)

(17)

 Given above are some of the example of users created in Active Directory

 The numbers for the above mentioned Users can be accessed by the LDAP client (SPARSH VP Phone)

2.

Configuration for LDAP Client in SPARSH VP Phones

 We can take an example with VP248 configuration

 One User, named ‘Yogesh Panchal’ is having extension number 5112 for his IP Phone

 To make a call from your SPARSH VP248 to his number using LDAP, we need to program a SIP trunk either as Peer to Peer or Proxy

(18)

29/03/2013

 We need to configure the IP address of user in Peer to Peer table as shown in the following screenshot

 After configuring these parameters, now you can call to Yogesh Panchal directly by dialling 5112 from the SPARSH VP 248

 But, in order to use LDAP feature and to access all the User names configured in the Centralized server, you need to configure the parameters in LDAP page in Advance Settings.

(19)

 First of all, the Flag ‘LDAP’ must be enabled

 Then, you have to enter the IP address of the PC in which LDAP Server/ Active Directory is installed in the field ‘LDAP- Server Address: Port

 In the next field, the port number used for LDAP server must be programmed; by default it is 389

 In User Name field, we have added

[email protected]’, because we have created this Domain in Active Directory. Here you need to add ’User@DomainName’ as configured in Active Directory settings

 Then in Password field, enter the password which was configured for Active Directory

 Now, for the Base Distinguished Name, you have to mention Main Directory and Sub Directory. Here KISHOR is main directory and HEMNANI is Sub Directory, so DC=KISHOR, DC=HEMNANI

(20)

29/03/2013

 Program other parameters like First Name Attribute, Last Name Attribute, Display Attributes as given in Screenshot

 Only these settings needed on client side (SPARSH VP248) to access the numbers from the centralized Phone book configured in LDAP Server

How to Access LDAP Contacts from SPARSH VP248:-

 To use LDAP contacts, you just have to dial Enter key then ‘Search

Contact - LDAP’, now you can browse centralized server contacts by

their name from SPARSH VP248 or you can also create a DSS key in SPARSH VP248 for ‘Search Contact - LDAP’ feature as per below screenshot

 By pressing a DSS key of ‘Search Contact - LDAP’ you can directly navigate through all the Contacts configured in Database

(21)

 To make a call to any of the numbers, you just need to Select that Contact and press Enter key, it will simply route the call to that particular Contact based on the IP address mapped in Peer to Peer table
