The 5000 will recognise other Eurotherm products on the network and auto-configure parameters for the operator to use. Additional parameters in any instrument can be manually configured. The 5000 Master Communications will support any Modbus device – if the instrument is not a recognised profile, the user may manually configure the device – offering ultimate flexibility via easy-to-use configuration pages.

Whether the 5000 is being viewed via its local, TFT colour, touch screen display or remotely on a PC or PDA, it offers a range of standard views and the ability for the user to configure a customised view to best suit their application. Some options included are trends, bar graphs, numeric values, mimics, control faceplates and alarm/event views. The 5000 also has powerful Maths and Events functions allowing the user to configure pre-defined actions or buttons. Whether it’s driving a relay, popping up a message window or changing the display colour on an alarm – the 5000 is designed to give the best information for your process.

The 5000 Series supports both serial and Ethernet connectivity. Information from a serial slave device can be read over the Ethernet. The 5000 also support ‘Talk through’ communications enabling configuration of a slave device over the network ‘through’ the 5000 – e.g. iTools running on a PC on the Ethernet network may be used to configure Eurotherm controllers acting as slaves to the 5000.

Using the Bridge 5000 software, all data accessed by the 5000 can be viewed remotely on any PC anywhere on the network. With Full Bridge the user also has full, remote operation and configuration while still maintaining high security and data integrity. Master Communications in the 5000

Series is designed for simple connectivity and ease of operator use. The 5000 Master Unit will scan a user-defined selection of addresses and auto-detect devices on the network.

The 5180V, 5100V and 5000B now all support Modbus Master Communications over Ethernet and Serial connections. Powerful features from within the 5000 Series – such as user-defined screens, remote access and Auditor Features – can now be applied to other areas of the plant. Control, Record and Visualise

The 5000 with Master

Communications can be used with Eurotherm control products to give an integrated recording and control solution. The 5180V has a colour, touch screen and provides an excellent HMI for visualisation of the plant. Controller faceplates can be viewed on the recorder enabling the operator to monitor the controllers as well as to change setpoints and other parameters from a single user interface. Complete configuration of the controllers can be carried out across the network using the PC based iTools package. There

is no need to change the network or connect directly to the controllers as the 5000s support “Talk-through”

communications – enabling the user to access the controllers seamlessly through the 5000.

Modbus Master Communications on the 5000 Series provides a method of reading and recording up to 96 input channels on a single recorder. Adding control and indication to the same network provides a total solution and flexible centralised HMI.

Eurotherm’s 2500 DIN Rail I/O offers a distributed, scalable I/O system. It provides high accuracy and plant monitoring using an extensive range of analogue and digital modules. The 5000 Series can auto-scan for the 2500 and has a pre-configured set-up for the unit, making configuration of the system quick and simple.

Third party I/O can be manually configured within the 5000 – offering the ultimate in flexibility for your system.

The 5000 takes data security to new levels. The 5000’s Auditor Features are designed in accordance with 21 CFR Part 11. It has unlimited, unique user names with password security. Each user can have individual access permissions and all changes and events are recorded into the embedded audit trail. Electronic Signatures are supported and all data – process and Audit Trail – are stored in a binary, encrypted format to prevent tampering. The 5000 Series has security systems designed in accordance with 21 CFR Part 11. Using Master Communications, this security can be applied to third party devices providing a secure, centralised Audit Trail.

Modbus Master Communications on the 5000 Series is easy to use and flexible. Any device using serial or Ethernet Modbus communications can be connected. All 5000 instruments are available with Bridge software. Bridge provides the user with remote monitoring and configuration capability – including Modbus functionality. Using the 5000 as a Master on your network, data from connected slaves can be viewed and controlled from any PC, anywhere. The 5000 instruments support both serial and Ethernet communications – so data from a serial device can be transferred to an Ethernet network. They also offer ‘Talk-through’ communications – so PC tools for slave devices on the network can be used through the 5000 without the need to change connections.

Any third party equipment supporting Modbus – Ethernet or Serial – can be connected to 5000 Series and viewed remotely. Process data can be recorded on the 5000 and values monitored or changed either from the 5000 display or remotely using the Bridge software.

Master communications on the 5000 Series can be used to simply bring information back to a centralised point for ease of operator use. The 5000 provides a Screen Builder facility to enable the user to customise screens to best suit their application – from representations of control faceplates to plant mimics. Using the Bridge software these views can be replicated on any PC on the network or, for the ultimate in remote, mobile monitoring, on a PDA device.
