Fourth Sunday of Advent
Family of Parishes
It has been confirmed that the parishes in our family will include St. Daniel (Clarkston), St. Anne (Ortonville), Our Lady of the Lakes (Waterford), and St. Rita (Holly). Our family will be included in the first wave of families to be formed under this new structure, which means work will begin earnestly in January 2021. It is expected that families in the first wave will be formed and ready to operate as a family by July 1, 2021. This does
not mean, of course, that the complete new
structure will be in place or fully implemented and operating by July 1, 2021. Realistically, it will probably take a couple of years to get everything restructured into the intended “family of parishes” model as proposed by the Archdiocese of Detroit

(AoD). The Family of Parishes (FoP) model will align 216 parishes into 51 families. Twenty-one families will be included in wave 1 to become effective July 1, 2021, and twenty-four families will be included in wave 2 to become effective July 1, 2022. It is important to note that each parish within the family will retain its own unique identity, as well as manage its particular financial position and resources. The goal is to operate together as a “family,” using the strength of our combined talents, skills, and gifts to proclaim the Good News. With a continuous decrease in the number of priests to serve God’s people throughout the AoD, this model provides for a number of priests the responsibility and opportunity to serve a family of parishes together as a team, so that the faith, spiritual, liturgical, and
sacramental life of the Church is best served. As we all embark on this new journey together, let us pray for one another in our family and for all the clergy and faithful throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Everything is a Pure Gift from God, and Like Blessed Mary, We Are Called to Say, “Yes” King David had the best intentions when he desired to build a house for God. I expect that, at least in part, David felt guilty that he lived in a palace of cedar while God dwelt in a tent. God’s response to David was a quick and stern -- “Should you build me a house to dwell in?” God reminds King David, as He does each one of us today, that it is God who gives everything to us! Everything is a pure gift from God. Apart from God we can do nothing, and we have nothing without Him! When we make an offering to God, we merely give back to God that which God Him-self had first given to us. It was very kind of

David to think of God, but it’s not like David was doing any great favors for God. Moreover, God tells David that I, your God, made you king, gave you a palace to live in. And more than all of this I will make for you an eternal kingdom. This eternal Kingdom is the Kingdom of God created by and through our Lord Jesus Christ—a Kingdom that will last forever. May we rejoice at the coming of His Kingdom!
The way to Jesus Heavenly Kingdom is through obedience to His
com-mands – being a disciple of Christ. Our Blessed Mother Mary is the quintessential model of true discipleship

Faith Formation News for 2021
As we near the end of December and wrap up the first half of our Faith Formation program, we’d like to thank all the parents who have made such a great effort to keep their little saints in training on track with at home lessons. We know it added more to your schedules and we applaud the priority you placed on your faith. We hope by helping your child with their weekly lesson your faith was refreshed as well!
Plans for 2021 have been finalized and unfortunately we don’t see any way we can go back to weekly in person classroom learning at this time, so we’re going to continue with parent led instruction at home. Since we had such a great response to the once a month in person sessions in St. Daniel church, we’ll continue those monthly.
Please watch for an email with your 2021 weekly lesson schedule and monthly In person session dates.

Heartfelt Thanks
A huge “thank you” to everyone who participated in the Giving Tree Program! You are
truly an inspiration to so many people: the St. Daniel parish community; the people
associated with the agencies; and the people you were able to help directly and indirectly.
Appreciation is also extended to all of our “elves” working behind the scenes on the
logistics of this program to make it possible: volunteers who sorted the gift bags by agency and either
delivered or made sure the gifts were picked up.
Special thanks to those families or groups who stepped forward to adopt an entire family through our
St. Vincent de Paul conference or Christian Service Office. May you receive as much joy from the
experience as the families in need will on Christmas morning due to your loving kindness.
Thank you to everyone! Please mark your calendar for next year if you would like to help.
Christmas During COVID
Here we are at the Fourth Sunday of Advent, with Christmas
later this week. What are your plans for Christmas? Hopefully,
you will be able to join your parish family at Mass over the four
days we will be offering Christmas Masses. If not, know that we
will be offering a Mass video on Christmas Day, so stay tuned!
Due to COVID, most of us have had to make adjustments to how
we normally celebrate. Maybe we have even lost a loved one this past year. Things are so different. But
this “different” is only temporary.
If someone close to you has recently died or you can’t be with loved ones for other reasons, realize that
it’s normal to feel sadness and grief. Find new ways to celebrate together, such as sharing pictures, emails
or videos. Or meet virtually on a video call. Know someone who is suffering? Write a letter or send a
card to let them know you are thinking of them.
If you’re feeling stress or anxiety during the holidays, it may help to talk to a friend or family member
about your concerns. Try reaching out with a text, a call or a video chat. Or make some time for yourself
and spend just 15 minutes alone, without distractions. That just may refresh you enough to handle
every-thing you need to do. Maybe you have a friend or loved one who is stressed or especially anxious; reassure
and support them.
If you feel lonely or isolated, please do not be embarrassed to reach out to others. Oftentimes, they feel
the same way, and your contact was just what they
–
and YOU
–
needed! And the “others” that you can
reach out to includes your parish family! You can always feel free to call the Christian Service Office at
248-625-
4583. If no one answers personally, just leave a message and we’ll return your call ASAP.
Last
–
but certainly not least!
–
we have to remember that the reason for this season of celebration is,
always and has been, and will be forevermore, that Jesus came to save his people from their sins. God
became a man; he became the savior of sinners so these sinners could by faith become the children of
God and inherit eternal blessings all for the glory of God. So no matter what else is going on around
you, set your focus on that, and draw close to him!!!
Recessional Hymn
O Come, Divine Messiah
1. O come, divine Messiah;
the world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph
And sadness flee away. (Refrain)
Refrain:
Dear Savior, haste!
Come, come to earth.
Dispel the night and show your face,
And bid us hail the dawn of grace.
O come, divine Messiah;
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph
and sadness flee away.
2. O Christ, whom nations sigh for,
whom priest and prophet long
foretold,
Come, break the captive’s fetters,
Redeem the long lost fold.
(Refrain)
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!
1. O come, O come, Thou Lord of
might,
Who to thy tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times didst give the law,
In cloud and majesty and awe.
(Refrain)
Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!
2. O Come Thou Rod of Jesse’s
stem,
From ev’ry foe deliverer them
That trust they mighty pow’r to
save,
And give the vict’ry o’er the grave.
(Refrain)

Rejoice! May you continue to have a blessed and joyful Advent! Please know of my prayers for each one of you as we joyfully await our Lord’s arrival! In the Love, Peace, and Joy of the Christ Child, Fr. John
