June, 2013,

2:00 – 5:00 pm

Hong Kong Stock Exchange Auditorium

Please join us for the second in a series of environmental conflict resolution forums, aimed at bringing about fresh thinking in creating solutions between stakeholders, on issues that are important to Hong Kong. With the government’s HK$30bn commitment to solve the pending landfill crisis comes a number of options which can impact the amount of waste that would ordinarily be sent to landfills. These solutions include incineration, reduction, improved recycling and new re-use or fuel options which will bring opportunities for jobs, innovation and improvements.

This discussion will be focused on one of the pieces of the waste puzzle, and which has stakeholder interests which are both pro and con for the issue. It will be mediated by a professional in conflict resolution, and allow the Hong Kong community to be involved in a working discussion where possible solutions can be shown to be created by a mediated process. Conflict resolution methods are currently used in many countries, but are fairly new to Hong Kong. This forum is meant to inspire debate and thinking, and hopefully open some new doors to moving ahead on issues where everyone can be benefactors.

This is the second in a series of “Environmental Conflict Resolution” events jointly organized by the HKU LL.M. in Arbitration & Dispute Resolution Program and Ocean Recovery Alliance. This event is timed to coordinate with the Plasticity Forum, to be held on June 6th at the Asia Society. – for more information, please see

2nd Annual Plasticity Forum

June 6

th

, 2013 – Asia Society, Hong Kong

Following on from its tremendous success at the RIO+20 Earth Summit last

year, Plasticity is back.

Serving up sustainable, innovative solutions related to the use of plastic, Plasticity 2013 showcases market opportunities for transforming plastic waste into a valuable resource.

Plastic – A Wasted Opportunity

It’s versatile, it’s cheap, and it’s incredibly convenient. Yet despite being designed to throw away, plastic simply doesn’t go away.

Every year, more than 260 million tons of plastic is produced globally, yet estimates suggest that only 10% each year is actually recycled. This untapped resource presents enormous potential for a lucrative leap in waste capture and management, next-generation packaging design and sustainable branding.

Plasticity 2013 shares ways to harness this material in new ways, both pre and post consumer use. Discussions will focus on design, materials, innovations, re-use, and waste reduction.
