DIReCToR’S MESSAGE

G

reetings from Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE)! The Institute is in its Golden Jubilee year.

Ever since its inception in 1964, IPE has been offering Executive Development Programs and Management Development Programs for almost a half-century now, in various areas of contemporary interest and concern. IPE has identified relevant Management Development Programs/In-Company programs to be offered during the year 2014-16 based on popular feedback from the participants, as well as a thorough assessment of emerging training needs in various sectors.

These MDPs / in-company programs are designed to help Public and Private Business organizations and Government to enhance their competence, competitiveness, performance, productivity and profitability. They cover a wide spectrum of topics including Biotechnology, Corporate Planning, Environmental Management, Financial Management, General & Strategic Management, Human Resources Management, Operations Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Project Planning & Appraisal, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development. Every year we strive to introduce programs that are of contemporary interest in this ever changing, dynamic scenario.

At IPE, we see Management Development Programs (MDPs) as one of our core activities. Our MDPs act as a bridge between IPE and the corporate world. These programs are meant for fulfilling the knowledge hunger of corporate sector executives. These programs enable the corporate sector to transform and face the challenges thrown by the competitive world. This would also lead to emergence of fresh ideas and help in Capacity Building.

We have a strong team of faculty members drawn from the industry as well as the academia and this blend forms the core strength of IPE. IPE’s faculty team is involved in many consultancy assignments that has added a lot of value to the class rooms.

I am quite confident that you would continue to extend your support in nominating your executives for some of these programs that fit into your training plans for this year. We would be delighted to conduct exclusive in-house programs on a mutually agreed content, terms and conditions.

These programs will be conducted either at your premises or our premises.

My Colleagues will be happy to discuss with you to formulate tailor made programs which meet your specific needs.

Looking forward to your continued association in building the competencies of business enterprise executives,

Management Development Programs at IPe

Learning and Development Interventions

In IPE’s path towards becoming a totally integrated institute with a national presence, Management Development Programs (MDPs) are a milestone in achieving the same. The objective of the MDPs is to help improve management systems through competency building at various levels in the corporate, government and non-government sectors to take on leadership roles in various positions – individually and collectively.

IPE devises and designs customized programs to meet the specific needs of various organizations, in both the public and private sectors. These programs pertain to general management as well as functional areas. The programs can be conducted at IPE campus or at a location designated by the client organizations.

In essence, the MDPs epitomize the quest for knowledge that ties together the IPE faculty and the industry through mutual exchange. The MDPs’ two-way learning process filters through to the Institute’s MBA (PE) and PGDM programs through case studies of current situations. As a result, IPE is able to produce leaders with not only the tools to build what tomorrow will be, but also with the knowledge of today that must work. The Institute has been organizing MDPs for the past 45 years for officers of state and central governments and practicing managers of public and private sector organizations. It has conducted nearly 100 programs for over 1600 officers of IAS, IFS and other allied services.

IPE has also conducted over 820 MDPs and in-company programs for nearly 35,000 practicing managers of the corporate sector, in the following categories:

y

y General Management y

y Project Planning and Appraisal y

y Human Resources Development y

y Financial Management

y

y Marketing y

y Corporate Planning y

y Information Technology y

y Restructuring y

y Project Management

y

y Corporate Social Responsibility

& Sustainability y

y Enterprise Risk Management

Several seminars, conferences and other programs sponsored by various international agencies and AICTE were conducted by the Institute.

The Institute has well-furnished conference halls and a large auditorium with modern audio-visual equipment. It also has an executive hostel and canteen facilities. IPE caters to fulfill the training and management development needs of public and private enterprises through the following methodology:

Key Focus Areas

Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainablity

The program on the Corporate Social Responsibility focuses on how managers can implement effective strategies in relation to corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility issues in their organization.

Corporate Social Responsibility involves addressing various factors such as Cultural Change, Value vs Values, and Leadership in Sustainability. The emphasis is on change strategies – incremental and transformational – required to shift organizations towards sustainability. The subject examines the role played by chief executives, business managers, employees and other stakeholders as change agents for sustainability.

Sustainable Development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment, so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for generations to come.

Sustainable development ties together concern for the carrying capacity of natural systems with the social challenges facing humanity.

Sustainable Development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs. It involves an enduring and balanced approach to economic activity, social progress and environmental responsibility.

With the introduction of new guidelines by Department of Public Enterprise (DPE) and the new Companies Bill 2013, the topic has assumed enormous importance and is being pursued rigorously by IPE.

Project Management

The importance of Project Management is being felt more in the recent past than before, because of the large number of large scale projects that are being taken up by many enterprises. The current day requirements of

‘Customer Satisfaction’ and ‘Global Competition’ have ensured that no enterprise wants to enter the market a day too late or at a higher cost.

More and more enterprises are looking at ways and means of managing projects effectively so as to be able to survive intense competition. Most projects are unique in their own ways and have to be handled differently because of the fact that a project requires performing different sets of non repetitive large-scale activities effectively.

Project Management is a study of alternative tools / techniques that help an organization to address the complex issues of planning, controlling and executing these large activities in an effective manner. Many large-scale projects have failed due to poor planning and control.
