School Goal 2: To increase our students’ skills in comprehension, writing and overall communication skills across the content areas.

Strategies

Student Feedback- students will be taught the skills they require to be successful writers and readers through thorough teacher feedback. Writing samples and rubrics will be shared and taught.

Transition most popular courses to online platform - Use Mrs. William’s Social Studies course offering as model or Google classroom.

Course Focus on skill building - Our courses offer samples of students' work and step by step instruction. A collection of student writing samples will be available to students.

Writing Workshops - Teachers will facilitate writing workshops twice a year in each location.

Orientation Sessions - Teachers will facilitate orientation sessions at the beginning of the year to teach students how to be successful in their English and Social Studies courses.

Collaborative Response Meetings - Can take on a skills focus, relating to the skills the student has acquired and needs to acquire to be successful. The meetings often have a wellness psychological focus.

Model the love of literacy - Staff will identify their favorite book picks. We will order

meaningful books for the library which focus on history, society and culture, humorous politics and biographies/ memoirs.

Identify the requirements of students with learning disabilities - Keeping an updated document which outlines the accommodations students require. This document is fluid. It reflects the changes in the student as he/she builds skills. Jennifer Perry will assist in the training and follow through of the IPP’s for students.

Literacy Focus each staff meeting - a strategy on how to assist struggling readers will be reviewed each staff meeting- 15 minutes.

• Collaborative Teacher Meetings Hard scheduled into the year calendar - English and Social teachers meet to go over courses and intricacies of teaching these subjects.
