Trevecca University: Boone Business Building – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Trevecca Nazarene University purchased an adjacent commercial property, renovated it, and added on to it resulting in the Boone Business Building. This structure houses their School of Business, Convocation Center, work areas and classrooms. RD Herbert’s work included; tearing off the existing roof, then installing new roofing, dormers and wall panels.
DETAIL:
The scope of work also included 24 ga. Kynar steel shop-fabricated copings, wall and curb counter flashings, and pre-fabricated expansion joints.

VUMC: Medical Research Building IV – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Medical Research Building IV sits atop Langford Auditorium and Light Hall and provides more than 200,000 square feet of research area, as well as conference space and a soaring glass atrium spanning several floors. Begun in 2004 and dedicated in June 2008, this building features state-of-the-art facilities with an appealing design that encourages collaboration and connects the structures.
DETAIL:
This large, complex, multi-story project included a temporary roof, due to job phasing, 2-Ply Mod-Bit roof system and stainless steel metal work.

Schermerhorn Symphony Center – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Schermerhorn Symphony Center is an acoustical and architectural masterpiece built to house the Nashville Symphony, and was named in honor of the late Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn. The 197,000-square-foot neo-classical inspired Schermerhorn Symphony Center opened in September of 2006.
DETAIL:
Our portion of work included fabricating approximately 2000 sheets of 20-oz copper into standing seam roofs over the main hall and three other smaller roofs. Low slope areas received built-up roofs. In addition, we installed wall panels at roof level changes. Associated metal flashings and architectural details for the roofs were fabricated from 20-oz copper. The custom fabricated 32-oz copper conductor heads collect rain water from each scupper and channel it through shop-fabricated round downspouts.

Viridian Condominiums – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Viridian, the 31-story luxury tower in the heart of downtown Nashville, was named Project of the Year 2007 by the Urban Land Institute. Viridian’s developers, Novare Group and Giarratana Development, built the 305 unit building on a half-acre site, the first high-rise residential development in Nashville’s urban core.
DETAIL:
Our company installed the roof system consisting of a substantial tapered insulation package, two layers of torched membrane and associated roof flashings. The extensive metal work for this project included shop-fabricated aluminum copings, wall flashings, gutters, and downspouts.

Icon in the Gulch – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Icon construction finished in the summer of 2008, transforming the Gulch from an industrial hub into a residential community. The 22-story mixed-use development contains 417 condominium units and 26,000 square feet of commercial lease space, including restaurants, boutiques and cafes at street level. MarketStreet Enterprises and Bristol Development Group joined forces for this venture.
DETAIL:
This multi-story project included a 2-Ply torched-down Mod-Bit roof system, plaza and pool waterproofing systems. The entrance and the amenities canopies are pre-formed Berridge Tee-Panels. Substantial aluminum metal work included copings, counter flashings, and scuppers. Rhythm at Music Row – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
This new 14 story upscale, urban condominium complex, located near world famous Music Row has access to downtown, the Gulch, Vanderbilt and many other Nashville landmarks. Housing 98 units with a fifth level amenities deck and convenient retail/office space at street level, residents should feel very comfortable in their urban space.
DETAIL:
Multiple levels of roofing and 1077 linear feet of shop-fabricated coping create levels of interest for this building. The roof is constructed from a 2-ply torched-down Mod-Bit roof. The scope of work additionally included metal counter flashings, a decorative ledge, gutters, and downspouts.

Meharry Medical College – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
A major renovation for this research facility consisted of over 27,000 square feet of space devoted to clinical and biomedical research. The Center for Women’s Health Research opened in the Fall of 2006. This 10,000 square foot facility is the first of its kind devoted to addressing diseases which disproportionately affect women of color.
DETAIL:
Our workers removed the existing failing roof systems from multiple roof levels down to the existing concrete deck. A temporary roof was applied to keep the building dry during the complex phased demolition and construction. A Tremco 3-ply cold applied BUR roof system with aggregate surface finished the process. Associated metal work included 16 oz copper thru-wall flashing, scuppers, and gravel stop.

Municipal Auditorium – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Nashville's multi-purpose entertainment venue plays host to a variety of special events including concerts, expositions, circuses, auto shows, conferences and much more. A 9,654 seat arena is the ideal facility for spectator events, while the 63,000 square foot exhibit hall is often filled with a variety of specialty expositions and conferences.
DETAIL:
The existing metal roof was power-washed, all joints and seams sealed, and a two-stage fluid-applied coating was spray applied. The coating seamlessly covers the existing metal roof, built in gutter and down into the drains. When applied properly, coating an existing roof will usually extend the life span of the roof by many years helping an owner get the most out of their roof investment.

Tennessee Correction Academy – Tullahoma, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
This campus is the State of Tennessee's primary training and staff development center for the Department of Corrections. Each year, over 6,000 people attend one of the Academy's numerous pre-service, in-service, or specialized training schools.
DETAIL:
Our company did a complete tear-off and re-roof of two of the dormitory buildings on campus. One of the buildings required installing new plywood over the existing gypsum deck. Roof pitch created a challenge for our workers; 12/12 and 14/12. New metal copings, flashings, gutters, and downspouts were installed around the buildings.

Central Wastewater Treatment Plant – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Central Wastewater Treatment Plant was built just north of downtown Nashville and began operation in 1958. In 2006, RD Herbert installed roofing systems on five structures as part of the Biosolids Management and Odor Control Expansion Project.
DETAIL:
The main roofing system on all buildings was EPDM fully adhered to a mechanically attached insulation system. The project included supplying wood decking and installing Berridge Tee-Panels on a section of mansard roofs. 24 ga. Kynar steel shop-fabricated flashings, copings, and trim completed the roofing and sheet metal work we performed on the project.

Richland Place – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Richland Place is Nashville's premier retirement community for active seniors. For the comfort of the residents and to reduce costs, facility management chose to roof over the existing shingles rather than perform a complete tear off. RD Herbert additionally relined the built-in gutters with EPDM to extend their lifespan.
DETAIL:
The existing shingle roof remained intact and was covered with a 30-year laminate shingle. Typically, a roof-over involves reusing the existing sheet metal. Examples of metal reused on this project include the standing seam copper dormers and drip edge.

Harpeth Hall: Souby Hall – Nashville, TN
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Formerly the P.M. Estes estate, Souby Hall housed the entire school when Harpeth Hall first opened in 1951. Named for Susan Souby, the first Head of School, Souby Hall is the heart of the Harpeth Hall campus. This building contains offices for the Head of School, Admissions, Communications, the bookstore, and the Business Office.
DETAIL:
RD Herbert tore off the existing slate, TPO and copper. The new roof consists of three roof types: Evergreen slate, copper flat lock and Carlisle TPO roofs. The scope of work also includes 16-oz copper built-in gutters, step flashings, drip edge, metal valleys, and counter flashings all fabricated and installed by our sheet metal shop.
