Opportunities have now arisen for individuals with excellent customer service skills to join the Senior Conductor Teams based across East Midlands Trains.

These roles are responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe running of all Local services whilst also maximising revenue collection, ensuring the safety of all train crew and customers remains paramount at all times and providing a high level of customer service on all of our trains.

We are looking for individuals who pride themselves on ensuring our customers have a pleasant and friendly journey and who have a flexible approach to working hours.

Retail experience would also be advantageous.

POSITION: Train Service Manager

LOCATION: Various

An opportunity has now arisen to join the On Train Management Team based across East Midlands Trains.

In this role you’ll have full responsibility for all our on-train staff and contractors (except Drivers) at the Depot and will be mindful of their welfare, safety and well-being.

You’ll monitor, manage and mentor your team - overseeing headcount, rosters, sickness and absence and ensuring the performance and disciplinary procedures are followed. Your team are a critical element in the service we provide to our customers and you’ll need to drive a culture that encompasses exceptional communication, respect, teamwork, professionalism and honesty. The emphasis being on people and service delivery.

You’re a natural leader who can quickly build trust and empathy within the team. You’ll be an excellent communicator with unquestionable people skills and the ability to think logically, act decisively and solve problems on a daily basis.

If you have knowledge of train crew and catering operations as well as trade union engagement this would be an advantage.

In these positions you'll play a vital role in our on-train team, making sure that customers enjoy the warmest of welcomes and the very best service. There is plenty to keep you busy from answering queries, to helping serve refreshments on board to making sure carriages are kept tidy.

POSITION: Driver Manager

LOCATION: Nottingham

An opportunity has now arisen for an individual to join the Driver Management Team based at Derby.

As a Driver Manager you will have overall responsibility for the management of the driver operation. Building a customer focused and performance culture where ‘right first time, every time’ becomes second nature. You’ll manage the smooth and efficient operation of the driver train plan, manage the performance of your driver team, ensure the service delivery and resource planning and meet your financial targets whilst delivering a safe operational railway.

Through an open, approachable, communicative, collaborative and customer focused leadership style, you’ll raise standards, ensuring that Instructors and drivers have the development support they need in order to reach their full potential.

You will need to have sound knowledge and previous experience of train driving and train systems coupled with strong leadership and exceptional interpersonal skills. Commercial acumen and the ability to negotiate with local level staff representatives are also essential.

Fundamental to achieving success will be your management style and an instinctive knowledge of how to get the best from your team.

POSITION: Customer Service Officer

LOCATION: Sheffield

BAND: Band 2 plus 10% Shift Allowance

An opportunity has now arisen for an enthusiastic individual who thrives on the challenges that ‘face to face’ customer service brings.

A key focus of this role is to maintain a high level presence on the station, directing and assisting customers as necessary, providing exceptional customer service at all times, as well as ensuring the safe and prompt despatch of all services.

The successful candidate will demonstrate effective communication and customer service skills along with the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. A working knowledge of Railway Rules and Regulations would be an advantage, but a positive attitude is essential.

This post will be required to work early and late turns of duty and weekends; therefore receive a 10% shift premium.

Please note that this role is a safety critical position therefore the successful candidate will be required to undertake a safety critical medical and drug screening. Please note an element of the safety critical medical is satisfactory completion of a railway standard colour vision test.

We have an extremely exciting opportunity for a Soft Skills Trainer to join us and be based at our Academy in Derby. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all customer service training & development needs including Induction are identified and

delivered effectively within budgeted costs. Managing stakeholder relationships within specific areas of the business and ensure the quality, design, delivery, implementation, analysis and feedback of activities are aligned to the business’s overall objectives.

To identify, prioritise, co-ordinate and schedule the training and development needs of the business through the entire training cycle, including TNA where applicable and development of a structured training plan with a focus on customer service and induction. Developing and implementing skills, knowledge and behavioural solutions to underpin the growth of

individuals, teams and business functions.

To provide coaching and mentoring where appropriate and recommend measures to improve individual, team and business performance. To adhere to all appropriate administration systems and procedures and provide clear communication to employees regarding accessing training and development tools.

To provide MI and monthly reports to T&D Manager outlining current activity, planned future activity, issues impacting upon successful design and / or delivery of material aligned against the business objectives.

To ensure Quality, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion standards are set and adhered to within the delivery and evaluation of training activities.

To identify ways in which funding can be achieved to support the development of employees working with customers.

To assist in any projects relating to T&D and flex responsibilities in line with business changes and growth plans when applicable.

Work with peers and colleagues to share best practice and support in other areas of training as and when required.

POSITION: 15X Fleet Engineer

LOCATION: Derby/Nottingham

BAND: Management

We are looking for a Fleet Engineer to provide professional engineering support to the Class 15x fleet.

Leading a team of four staff you will be responsible for ensuring that the class 15x fleet is maintained and operated in a safe working condition at all times, ensuring maintenance procedures are adequately prepared to provide the most cost effective, maintenance plan, continuously improving the technical performance of the class 15x fleet and providing technical support at the maintenance depots.

To progress to the interview stage your application will need to demonstrate;

• Degree education and Incorporated/Chartered Engineer, or qualifications leading to professional status.

• A minimum of 5 years experience managing in a technical/development field, especially in relation to the 15x fleet.

• An ability to work on own initiative, be an enthusiastic team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Good analytical skills coupled with a process driven method of working.

• Ability to lead and manage the team to deliver technical and administration support to depots.

• Knowledge of relevant company procedures supporting the safety management system.

• Computer literate and familiar with MS Office, Compass, RAVERS, FERITT, Gemini and other Rail Industry specialist applications.

POSITION: Support Controller - temporary secondment position until 31st December 2013

LOCATION: EMCC, Derby

BAND: Controller Grade A

SAFETY STATUS: Non-Safety Critical

Do you want to work in a fast changing environment where every day is different? Do you want a role where you need to think quickly and decide which solution to use? Do you aspire to be a controller with East Midlands Trains?

If so, a secondment into our Control team could be just right for you.

We have a temporary opportunity in our Control team to help us through the autumn leaf fall period and first few months of winter; one of the most challenging periods in running a right time railway.

Working as part of the Control shift team, you’ll ensure any delays attributed to us are correctly attributed or challenged back to Network Rail. You’ll also help us identify where the leaf fall season is impacting on our ability to run trains on time.

We’ll also give you the training so you can support other roles in the Control. This might include supporting our on train & station people, sending messages or supporting the flow of information in the control room during disruption.

We’re looking for applicants with strong prioritising and good communication skills that can work as part of a team. You should also have an eye for detail, be able to manage multiple work streams and be comfortable in an environment where demands are high and priorities change rapidly.

Please note this role includes early and late shift working including weekends. The role is required to work on average for 35 hours a week (Monday to Saturday). Committed Sunday working is also included in the roster on an average of 1 Sunday in 4.

POSITION: Information Systems Controller

BAND: Controller Grade A

Are you passionate about providing great customer information in a fast changing environment and do you aspire to be a controller with East Midlands Trains? If so, a secondment into our Control team could be just right for you.

The Customer Information Systems Controller is responsible for delivering great customer information through a range of information systems including our platform CIS and National Rail applications.

Working as part of the Control shift team, you’ll ensure our train running information is accurate and up to date at all times. You’ll also assist with the publication of messages and announcements to a wide range of information service channels. Our customers on stations will also contact you for information and assistance through our Help Points.

We’re looking for applicants with strong prioritising and good communication skills that can work as part of a team. You should also have an eye for detail, be able to manage multiple work streams and be comfortable in an environment where demands are high and priorities change rapidly.

Please note this role includes early and late shift working including weekends. The role is required to work on average for 35 hours a week (Monday to Saturday). Committed Sunday working is also included in the roster on an average of 1 Sunday in 4.

This is your opportunity to fulfil your ambition to become a train driver, while making sure we realise our ambition to give a safe, punctual and reliable service, always.

Following strict rules set out in GE/RT8000, you’ll be responsible for driving, shunting, light maintenance and many other tasks. In fact, there’s a wide variety of duties including the preparation, marshalling and disposing of vehicles at your Depot; fitting and removing ETH shore supply, coupling and uncoupling and re-marshalling trains and traction units; servicing traction and rolling stock including re-fuelling, replenishing and draining water, oil, coolant and water as necessary; and reporting any irregularities, faults and movement problems.

You’ll also be labelling, cleaning cab interiors and exteriors, particularly windscreens, and checking that the train environment is up to customer standards. This is an important role for which full training will be given.

You’ll need to have a personable, positive and professional approach, the ability to follow set rules and procedures in a safety conscious environment, exceptional concentration skills, good self discipline and the willingness to work shifts, these roles will be required to work 37 hours per week over a 24 hours roster with Sundays forming part of the working week.

Appointment into these positions will be made upon successful completion of the full external Driver Assessment to Mainline Standards, an interview and the passing of a Driver Standard Medical. POSITION: Incident Support Controller – Part time 20 hours per week

BAND: Controller Grade C

If so, a role in our Control team could be just right for you.

The Incident Support Controller is responsible for proactively managing disruptive events and leading the development of prioritised plans to resolve incidents with key stakeholders.

Working as part of the Control shift team, you’ll proactively manage the attribution of delays to our trains. You’ll ensure our log is kept up to date with quality content and accuracy and ensure TRUST delay incidents are correctly allocated and recorded. When things go wrong you’ll coordinate the response and resolution to the incident and support the shift team and the Duty Control Manager.

We’re looking for applicants with strong prioritising and communication skills that can also influence, work with others, solve problems and make time critical decisions. You should also have an eye for detail, be able to manage multiple work streams and be comfortable in an environment where demands are high and priorities change rapidly.

Ideally you’ll have knowledge of the railway industry, our routes, Microsoft office software, and railway systems’ software.
