Administrative Accomplishments:
Chaired writing team responsible for grant establishing Remote Sensing Technologies Center. Subsequently named first director of RSTC.
Integrated Extension Geographic Information Systems Unit into RSTC, thus administering geospatial technology extension/outreach efforts.
Led team that developed a Geospatial Technologies Certificate Program at MSU. This
multi-disciplinary, cross-college program has attracted a number of students, with over 20 certified last year alone. A similar program has also been developed in the Bagley College of Engineering.
Led efforts to merge four centers – Remote Sensing Technologies Center, Computational Geospatial Technology Center, Visualization Analysis and Imaging Laboratory, and Water Resources Research Institute – into the GeoResources Institute (now Geosystems Research Institute). Served as first director for GRI.
Provided leadership in the establishment of the Mississippi Coordinating Council for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems, resulting in enabling legislation for the Council. As a result, appointed IHL Representative to this Council. Now serving as chair of the Policy Advisory Committee which is developing the business plan for sustainability of the Council’s program.
Elected first chair of the Operations Board for the High Performance Computing Collaboratory; oversaw organization of HPC2 from former Engineering Research Center.
Developed proposal establishing the NOAA Northern Gulf Institute.
Developed concept for SmallSatellite program at Mississippi State University; leading to one of the largest programs in University history.
Participated in four leadership development courses, one conducted by University of North Carolina, one by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the other two by the Kellogg
Foundation.
Member of MSU Strategic Planning Task Force that led to FutureSTATE 2015 report.
Chaired the ORED committee developing the new proposed policy on overhead distribution.
