requeststhatinv olv eaddingnewmaterialstotheCode.Seetheg uidelinesonapprov alofnewweldingandbrazing

ma-terialsinSectionII,PartCforrequirementsforrequeststhatinv olveaddingnewweldingandbrazingmaterials

(“con-sumables”) totheCode.

Technicalinquiriescanincluderequestsforrev isionsoradditionstotheCoderequirements,requestsforCodeCases,

orrequestsforCodeInterpretations, asdescribedbelow :

(1)CodeR evisions.Coderev isions areconsideredtoaccommodatetechnolog icaldevelopments,toaddress

admin-istrative requirements,toincorporateCode Cases,ortoclarifyCode intent.

2 INQUIRY FORMA T

Submittals totheCommitteeshould include the follow inginformation:

(a)Purpose. Specifyoneofthefollowing :

(3)requestforCodeCase

(4)requestforCodeInterpretation

In-quiry,beingsure toincludereference tothe applicable Code Section,Division, Edit ion,A ddenda(ifapplicable),

para-graphs,figures, andtables.Preferably ,t he Inquirershould prov ideacopyof,orrelev antext ract s from, t hespecific

malpresentationortoanswerquestionsfromtheCommitteemembersw ithreg ardtotheInquiry.A ttendanceataBPV

StandardsCommitteemeetingshallbeattheex penseoftheInquirer.TheInquirer’sattendanceorlackofattendanceat

ameetingwillnotbeusedbytheCommitteeasabasisforacceptanceorrejectionoftheInquirybytheCommittee.

How-ev er,iftheInquirer’srequestisunclear,attendancebytheInquirerorarepresentativemaybenecessaryforthe

Com-mittee tounderstand therequestsufficientlytobe abletoprov idean Interpretation. IftheInquirerdesirestomakea

RequestsforCoderevisions oradditions shouldincludethefollowinginformation:

(a)R equestedR evisionsorAdditions. Forrequested revisions,theInquirershould identifythoserequirementsofthe

Codethattheybelieveshouldberevised,andshouldsubmitacopyof,orrelev antex tractsfrom,theappropriate

require-mentsastheyappearintheCode,markedupw iththerequestedrev ision.ForrequestedadditionstotheCode,the

In-quirershouldprovidetherecommendedwordingandshouldclearlyindicatewheretheybelievetheadditionsshouldbe

located inthe Coderequirements.

(b)StatementofNeed.TheInquirershouldprov ide abriefex planationoftheneedfortherevisionoraddition.

(c)B ackgroundInformation.TheInquirershouldprov idebackg roundinformationtosupporttherev isionoraddition,

includinganydataorchang esintechnolog ythatformthebasisfortherequest, thatwillallowtheCommitteeto

ade-quatelyevaluatetherequestedrev isionoraddition.Sketches,tables,fig ures,andg raphsshouldbesubmitted,as

appro-priate.TheInquirershouldidentifyanypertinentportionsoftheCodethatwouldbeaffectedbytherevisionoraddition

andanyportionsofthe Codethatreferencetherequestedrevisedoraddedparag raphs.

4 CODE CA SES

RequestsforCodeCasesshouldbeaccompaniedbyastatementofneedandbackg roundinformationsimilartothat

describedin3(b)and3(c),respectively,forCoderevisionsoradditions.Theurg encyoftheCodeCase(e.g .,project

un-derw ayorimminent,newprocedure)shouldbedescribed.Inaddition,itisimportantthattherequestisinconnection

withequipmentthatwillbeartheCertificationMark,withtheex ceptionofSectionX Iapplications.TheproposedCode

CaseshouldidentifytheCodeSectionandDiv ision,andshouldbewrittenasaQ uestionandaReply,inthesameformat

asex istingCode Cases.RequestsforCodeCasesshouldalsoindicatetheapplicableCodeEditionsandA ddenda(if

ap-plicable) towhichtherequested CodeCase applies.

5 CODE INT ERPRET AT IONS

(a)RequestsforCodeInterpretations shouldbeaccompaniedbythefollowinginformation:
