AFDP-1 DOWN POST BRACKET INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

AFDP-006

Rev. NC

1.0 INTRODUCTION AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The AFDP-1 Down Post Bracket system attaches to the following Eurocopter AS350 and AS355 series helicopters equipped with high skid gear to meet the minimum ground clearance specified in Section 8.

AS350 models B, B1, B2, BA, B3, C, D, and D1 AS355 models E, F, F1, F2 and N

The AFDP-1 Down Post Utility Bracket consists of a support bracket clamp that is attached around the tuning hammer weight attachment area located at Fuselage Station 40.41 (1028.4 mm) and Buttock Line (BL) 20.98 (533 mm). The bracket clamps around the isolation hammer damper but does not impede the operation of the hammer. See Figure 2

After installation it is necessary to calculate the weight and balance for Installed items and check for proper loading of aircraft. Section 8 contains a table of the weight and CG location for the mount and payload.

A modification to the forward belly panel is required per Section 4. Antenna, lights, and additional installed equipment may need to be relocated to provide clearance for the camera mount system.

(3)

2.0 SPECIAL PROCEDURES / PRECAUTIONS:

2.1 Aircraft must be equipped with high skid gear 2.2 Maximum mount payload

See Table 8.1 for qualified payloads.

2.3 Ground Clearance:

See Section 8 for payload ground clearance

2.4 Installation of mount must not interfere with any existing installed equipment

3.0 INSTALLATION INFORMATION:

3.1 Reference Figures 1 and 2

3.2 Remove lower belly panel P/N 350A21-0040.

3.3 Install blade tape or equivalent to all mount / airframe contact surfaces.

3.4 To ease installation of hardware, Teflon type protective coating may be applied.

3.5 Install P/N’s: –11 / -12 top T-brackets, install lower mount assembly to airframe (see Figure 1 and 2). Note, lower assembly P/N’s –1,-5,-4,-6,-10 comes from manufacturer as a complete assembly.

3.6 Install AN960JD-516 / NAS1149D-0516 washers as required to ensure a maximum 0.010 gap.

Maximum of 0.010 gap is allowed with complete mount assembly installed prior to final fastener torque.

3.7 Torque hardware to 100-120 inch pounds, tighten bolts in diagonal pattern to ensure even torque pressure.

4.4 Lay-up 9oz fiberglass tape as supplied in West Systems 101 Epoxy Repair Kit (or equivalent) over core filling to provide edge protection for belly panel. Refer to West Systems instructions.

4.5 Re-install belly panel, latch securely

4.6 Note position of mount and any associated sensor cabling, cut rubber boot P/N:AFDP-14 to suit.

4.7 Install AFDP-14 rubber boot with clear silicone weather proof sealant. Apply sealant around entire boot grove.

4.8 An additional rubber boot is supplied for use if mount is removed

6.0 REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS: AFDP-1 BRACKET

To remove AFDP-1 mount from aircraft:

6.1 Follow directions in reverse order and replace all original hardware / fixtures that were removed for installation of AFDP-1 mount.

6.2 Remove any AFDP-1 placards from cockpit. 6.3 Calculate weight and balance.

6.4 Make appropriate log book entry. 6.5 Return Aircraft to service.

8.0 QUALIFIED PAYLOAD LIST

This section contains the Qualified Payload List for the AFDP-1 Down Post Utility Bracket. Maximum weight and frontal area allowed to be installed on mount are

W = 122 lbs

Frontal area =2.0 square feet Gimbal Diameter = 15.5 inches

Minimum ground clearance = 6 inches

The following table contains a list of payloads that fit within the above parameters. If a sensor is not on the list a calculation of frontal are and weight must be made.
