Building Protocols³July Update

Masks: When & where? Honor System for Fully Vaccinated People

Masks must be worn when entering the building or moving around. Non vaccinated people must wear mask. Vaccinated people may take off their mask when seated at a table with all vaccinated members. If one is not vaccinated the whole table must continue to wear the mask.

A vaccinated person can be A symptomatic. A vaccinated person could infect a nonvaccinated senior and vice versa. At this time there will no requirement to prove your vaccination is two weeks past your final dose.

Bathrooms Use: Bathrooms available for all.

We ask that you minimize the amount of people inside the restroom when possible. In addition to indoor events, bathrooms will be available for activity participants during Car Hops and any outdoor events.

Exterior Doors are Open!

Please continue to enter the building through the same door as your activity, i.e. exercise par- ticipants should enter into the Shuffleboard Room, card players should continue to come in through he front door, crafters enter into the craft room, etc. The interior connector doors in the corridor between Building A& B will remain locked to minimize needless cross traffic.

We ask that you continue to remain outside of the building until 15 minutes prior to the start of your activity. We will continue the attendance logs, however, there will no longer be tempera- tures checks. Hand sanitizing stations are available at all entry points. Please use them upon entering and exiting the building.

Beverages and Food:

You can continue to bring in your beverages in closed containers and enjoy them at your table.

(if sitting with an unvaccinated person. You will have to leave the table to sip your beverage).

We ask that you do not bring in food.

Food will be served at the tables indoor for the Lunch program using all disposable products.

Curbside will continue to be an option thru September. A pilot of indoor dinning will begin Tuesdays and Wednesdays in July beginning the 13

th

and 14

th

maximum 25 to 30 people TBD.

Activity Limitations: Billiards, Cards, Crafts, Exercise Classes & Games

Length of time for activities has increased to 2 hours. There will no longer be a limit on the number of participants. Card players are able to resume normal tournament play if desired. On Thursday, July 15th, Bingo will resume with prizes awarded for every game and we will begin using the “Window” cards. Zoom Bingo participants are invited to join us at the Center on Thursday afternoons. Please continue to sign up for the activities.

Thrift Shop:

Both doors will be unlocked and access to bathrooms in Building B will be allowed for use and as a changing room.

Indoor Dining:

We are hoping to resume indoor dining on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in July with limited seat-

ing. Please see the Page 16 for more information.

July is

AntiBoredom and Blueberry Month!

Summer is here, how about some fun and yum!?

During the entire month of July, we celebrate National AntiBoredom Month. This monthly observance encour- ages everyone to identify what makes us bored and find ways to combat it! When fending off boredom, it’s im- portant to know what the symptoms are and why we get bored. We often associate being bored with having noth- ing to do, but that’s not always the case. Many times, we have plenty to do or are even doing it, but the task at hand does not stimulate our minds. It may be repetitive or not challenging enough. When this happens, we can become irritable, tired, or begin to not care about how well we do a task. We may also seek out stimulation to re- lieve the boredom.

Here are some ideas! Play, go for a walk, learn a new skill, take a class, visit a new location (there are even virtual tours online of places inside and outside the US), clean, cook, be creative, volunteer, or get social safely! If you can’t visit safely call someone Call just about anyone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Visit, catch up, and find out what you’ve missed. So call a friend, former coworker, or family member and strike up a conversation. Who knows where it might lead. If you don’t want to call, write. Journaling or writing a letter can be very therapeutic!

It’s Always Blueberry Season Blueberries

are available all the time, in all their forms. After our harvest in North America, we continue to get blueberries throughout the winter from growers in Central and South America. You can grab a boost of blue all year long!

History of Blueberries While

blueberries have been making life in North America more delicious for 13,000 years, they really took off in the last century.

Berry Healthy Blueberries

are one of the most popular fruits because they are high in antioxidants.

Antioxidants are powerful compounds found in some foods that protect our cells from damage and many of the factors related to aging, like brain disorders. Blueberries contain the highest levels of antioxidants of any other eaten fruit or vegetable.

Blueberries also

contain high amounts of vitamin C, which boosts our immune system, vitamin K, which promotes bone and blood health, and manganese, which promotes bone health and helps convert protein, carbs, and fat into energy. Blueberries also contain high amounts of fiber, which is essential for heart and gut health while also keeping us feeling fuller for longer.

Fresh blueberries are available in US grocery stores yearround. You can buy North American blueberries be- tween April and September, and South American blueberries during the other months. More than half of all blue- berries are sold fresh, but the rest are frozen or dried to be used in everything from smoothies to granola bars.
