Bishop Parkes Announces Resumption of Sunday Mass Obligation
During his Chrism Mass homily on March 30, 2021, Bishop Gregory Parkes announced his intention to resume the obligation for Catholics to attend Mass here in the diocese starting on the weekend of May 22-23, the solemnity of Pentecost. Citing the increased availability of the COVID-19 vaccine to every adult in our diocese by April 5th, Bishop Parkes expressed his desire to welcome back the faithful to the celebration of Sunday Mass in their parish churches. On March 31 Bishop Parkes issued his written letter to the Diocese about the lifting of the general dispen- sation and a listing of the circumstances that would necessitate a particular dispensation from the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation. Letters are found online in English and Spanish.
As the general dispensation is lifted and Catholics of diocese return to Sunday Mass, Bishop Parkes also issued updated protocols to provide guidance with the new circumstances issued on April 20, 2021. They are also found on the dosp.org, the diocesan website: English and Spanish.
