Secondary Calendar
Dear Parents/Carers,Welcome to Term 2 of the school year. As usual, we have many events planned for this term including Parent-Teacher Interviews, School Photos, Years 7-9 NAPLAN, school Athletics, Interschool Chess and several BEACON and sporting events, so it will be very busy!
School ANZAC Ceremony
Last week, we hosted the annual school ANZAC Ceremony. It was a very respectful event, with students hearing about the experiences of local veterans, Commander Des Scanlan, Royal Australian Navy (Retired) and Bombadier Kelvin Groves (Retired). Thank you to all staff and students who made this event memorable; Ms Felicity Stoetzel and the secondary Student Council, primary class representatives, Ms Naomi Cross and the primary choir, Mrs Tamara Otto and the school band, and Mr Rob Allen. A special performance by Mr Jacob Gigliotti and his daughter, Mikaylee, was much appreciated also, as was the poem, Our Generation Remembers, penned by Mr Peachey. Local band members, Shelley Shaw and daughters, Loretta and Mabel’s contributions were also very much
appreciated. Thanks is also extended to Mrs Gwen Connolly and her students for providing homemade ANZAC biscuits and refreshments after the
ceremony. Paul Bond and Home Hardware made the hall look special for the occasion.
We received some wonderful feedback on our Facebook page from one of our local Veterans expressing his appreciation for the schools ANZAC Ceremony:
“Thank you so much for a moving and exceptionally run ANZAC Service today. Your student leaders should be congratulated for their eloquence and for the manner in which they conducted themselves. It was so pleasing to hear the school choir singing the National Anthem and for the Gigliotti's stirring rendition of John Williamson's 'Diggers of the ANZAC'. A live performance of the last post by Shelley Shaw, the poetry readings and the heartfelt words of the 2 guest speakers were a poignant reminder of what it means to have served this great country. We commemorate the fallen and support the living. Well done to all the pupils who attended and to their teachers for instilling in them the meaning of our most sacred day. Lest We Forget”

Deputy Principal
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2. This is a very busy term with NAPLAN, athletics, photos and performances. There will be numerous notes coming home to obtain your permission for your child to attend events happening this term. We appreciate your support in returning these to the office staff as quickly as possible.
Parent/Carer Teacher Interviews:
On Tuesday 4 May, we will be holding our Whole School Parent/Carer teacher interviews. All teachers, specialist teachers and SWD teachers will be available for interviews on this day. They are held in the primary hall. Please phone: 40975 222 for primary student and 40975 333 for
secondary students. This is an opportunity for parents and teachers to develop goals and work together to achieve the best learning outcomes for your child. If you are unable to attend on this day, please phone the offices to organise an
alternative day and time.
Life Education Van:
The Life Education Van will be at the primary campus in week 4 (12-14 May) to deliver programs linked with our Health Curriculum. Permission forms have been sent home. Please return these as soon as possible. Students without permission will complete work with a different supervising teacher while their class attends.
NAPLAN Online 2021:
This year our school will be participating in
NAPLAN Online for Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 from 11- 21 May.
This will mean that students will complete the NAPLAN Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy tests on computers, excluding the Year 3 Writing test which will still be delivered using paper.
To find out more information about NAPLAN Online, visit www.nap.edu.au NAPLAN
assessments provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests.
NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for and students are not expected to do so. At Ravenshoe State School P-12, we prepare students by embedding the skills and knowledge required for NAPLAN in our teaching and learning unit plans. Students can see the types of questions and experience the types of skills both at school and home by visiting:
www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site.
Students will also be involved in a NAPLAN practice test session early in Term 2.
Attendance:
At our school, our attendance target for students is 90%. At the primary, teachers and students calculate the daily attendance rate and write it up on their classroom white board. Congratulations to our Preps who achieved 100% attendance this week on Wednesday — you rock! Well done also to Year 4 and Year 5 this week for exceeding the goal of 90% attendance.
ANZAC Ceremony:
On Friday, we held our school ANZAC ceremony. Our Primary school captains Ben & Chelsea spoke confidently, our choir sang beautifully and Jacob and Mikaylee Gigliotti sang their tribute song beautifully.
Thanking you, Lurelle Hodge
