Requirements for Using the Update Tool
Computer• Desktop/Laptop computer running either Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, or XP o Currently, there is no support for Apple computers
• All firewall & anti-virus programs should be disabled
• Administrative privileges required to download & install software including drivers • An available USB port on the PC that supports 2.0 USB

• USB data cable (included in Retail Box) Note: this is the same cable used to charge your device. • Samsung USB driver for Android mobile devices.
• Available USB Port.
o Direct connection of the USB cable to the computer’s USB port is strongly advised. The use of a USB hub or docking station is NOT recommended.
• Your PC must be connected to a live internet connection to download the Simple Update Tool o The Simple Update Tool is approximately 500MB in size.
Back-up Your Data
Before proceeding with the update process, Back-up/Sync your data to maintain: • Calendar Events
• Contacts • E-mail Accounts • Messages
Important: Synch your Gmail, Corporate Microsoft Exchange, and/or POP3 e-mail accounts. Please ensure that all critical information has been Backed Up before applying this update.
By syncing your Google Gmail information and Exchange Mail accounts, you are backing up your information. Store your pictures, music, video and any other files to your microSD Memory Card.
Backup Recommendations • Google Gmail
o From the Home screen, select Menu à Settings à Accounts à Google.
o Select your Google account and checkmark the boxes of the content you wish to back-up. o Select Sync now.
• Microsoft Exchange Mail
o From the Home screen, select Menu à Settings à Accounts à Microsoft Exchange.
o Select your Exchange Mail account and checkmark the boxes of the content you wish to back-up. o Select Sync now.
• Save Contacts to SD Card
o Go to your contact lists “Contacts” à Menu à Import/Export. o Select Export to SD card.
o Confirm export completion on the notification bar.
• After the upgrade, you can log back into your Google Gmail and Exchange Mail accounts to retrieve your information.

You can manage your library of applications from the Google Play website. Go to https://play.google.com and login with your Google Gmail information. Select My ANDROID APPS to view your list of applications. Browse
• Double click the USB driver file. And follow the screen prompts.

Step 3: Installing Simple Upgrade Tool
Important: We highly recommend that you uninstall any previous versions of the Samsung Simple Upgrade tool before you begin the installation.
• Double click the Simple Upgrade file.
4. Make sure your Galaxy S II is turned OFF.
IMPORTANT: During the installation process your Galaxy S II will not be able to make or receive calls, including emergency calls, texts, pictures, video messages, browse the web, and/or access of your applications.
5. Remove the battery from the device; and then put the battery back in the device. Select Next.
9. Press Start Software Download button to start the update process.
12. Select Exit to close the Update Tool.
13. After the software update, the phone will restart.
14. Unplug the USB cable from the computer and the mobile device.
15. Wait until the phone reboots completely and the idle screen is displayed to begin using it.
