EPSON PERFECTION SCANNING BASICS

SCANNING A DOCUMENT

1. start a new Word document

2. select Insert, Picture, From Scanner or Camera

choose Web or Print quality, depending on what you are scanning a. if scanning from the document

table - select Insert

b. if scanning from the Automatic Document Feeder - ADF

select Custom Insert, you will then be prompted with the following box, click OK

3. the document scanned will become an image within your word document. 4. File, Save

If you want to edit your text - see Using OCR to edit text directions.

Lay your material on the document table as shown below. If using the ADF, lay material face up, and place into scanner.

SCANNING AN IMAGE

1. open PhotoShop Elements or another imaging program (photoshop Elements software comes with the scanner)

2. File Ö Import Ö Epson Perfection

3. . Epson Scan will open

choose your Image Type, Destination, Size, Orientation, Resolution: 300 is fine

click Preview if you wish to crop your image before scanning

4. click Scan

5. close when finished

SCANNING TO PDF

1. open Adobe Acrobat

2. click on the Create PDF button select From Scanner

3. choose settings - click on Black and White, Auto Detection

4. click Scan, the Epson Scan screen will open, click Scan 5. when done scanning, click Close

USING OCR TO EDIT TEXT

Use this application to scan and convert into text. The converted text can be saved or sent to a word processing application.

1. Start Ö Programs Ö ABBYY FineReader 2. FineReader program opens

a. if scanning from the document table, click on the down arrown and choose the Scan&Read option, Epson Scan screen appears, click Scan

.

b. if scanning multiple pages from the ADF , select Scan&Read Multiple Images. The Epson Scan screen will appear, choose document settings, click Scan and the following box will appear, click OK, scanning will start

3.when the documents are finished being recognized, click Close on the Epson Scan screen. click on the MS Word button to transfer

IMPROVING CHARACTER RECOGNITION

Use the Threshold slider to change the threshold value, monitoring the results of your changes in the Preview window. Adjusting the threshold value can make it easier for OCR to recognize characters. The Threshold setting is available only when Image Type is set to Black & White.

Potential text recognition problems

The quality of the text in your original document greatly affects OCR results.

The following types of originals can make recognition difficult and should be avoided if possible:

• Items that have been copied from other copies

• Faxes

• Text with tightly-spaced characters or line pitch

• Text that is in tables or underlined

• Cursive or italic fonts, and font sizes less than 8 points

RePrint Photos

Use this application to scan and then print images as photos. You can print in various sizes, or place several photos on the same page. You can also create collages or print several versions of the same image easily.

Scan and Save

Use this application to scan, convert, and then save an image to a specific folder. You can also

convert an image using the PRINT Image Matching standard and add various color effects to the scanned image. When you click Scan and Save icon, the following dialog box appears. Click Scan and Save to start scanning or Scan with Options to change

scanning settings.

Copy Center

Use this application to turn your scanner into a digital copy machine, yet its functions are far more powerful and flexible than conventional copy machines. Using this application, you can scan and then print documents or images directly to your printer. You can copy in various sizes, or place several photos on the same page. Before you print an image, you can see the effects of image adjustments using the Preview window.

USING EPSON SCAN

If you just want to save scanned images without editing them -

1. select EPSON Scan from the desktop. Scanned images are automatically saved as files in the specified folder.

2. click Scan

3. the following screen will appear, allowing you to save your data

4. click OK
