ANNOUNCEMENTS

SOZO AND CRUSADERS FOR CHRIST

All parents are invited to St. Francis Xavier Wednesday, February 27 from 6:30—8:00 p.m. to hear Sister Miriam.

She is a great speaker that can be very inspiring. (See information below)

All 6th thru 12th grade students are invited to go to St. Francis Xavier Thursday, February 28 to hear Sister Miriam. We are very excited to have this opportunity to hear her in person instead of on youtube! We will meet here at St. Martin’s at 6:00 p.m. and travel with parent volunteers and return to St. Martin’s at about 8:30 p.m.

Students and parents can also meet us there that night. This is a great opportunity to hear a world renowned speaker for FREE! Please RSVP to Terry Yohman [email protected]. Sister has a great witness.

SISTER MIRIAM COMING TO SPEAK AT ST. FRANCIS XAVIER

Sister Miriam James Heidland, SOLT, a former Division 1 college athlete who experienced a radical conversion and entered the convent, is coming to St. Francis Xavier to share her fascinating story and inspiring experience of God’s love, mercy, and healing. Sister Miriam can be heard at Steubenville conferences and various national and international retreats and conferences. All are invited to join us Wednesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 28, from 6:30—

8:00 p.m. in the church. Wednesday’s talk is directed toward parents and other adults, while Thursday’s talk will be geared for middle school and high school students. There is no cost or tickets to attend, and all are welcome! For more information, visit www.sfxmedina.org/parish, email Nancy Fiamingo at [email protected], or call the parish office at 330-725-4968.

THANK YOU

The Knights of Columbus would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all St. Martin parishioners for making our collection drive, to benefit our wounded heroes, a tremendous success. Because of your generosity, we shipped 7 large boxes to Operation Quiet Comfort containing tissue packs, cotton swabs, playing cards, puzzle books, lip balm, oral and general hygiene products and a staggering 668 pairs of socks (almost doubling the amount of socks we sent last year). We also delivered hygiene products and over 300 Christmas cards to veterans in the care of the local VA Hospitals. Everyone deserves our gratitude, but we especially want to recognize the children in our Parish and our community. The PSR classes contributed more than half of the Christmas cards that were delivered to the VA Hospitals, and the Girl Scout Service Unit 940 (troops throughout the Cloverleaf and Black River districts) conducted their own service project to make a huge contribution to our drive. We were amazed after last year’s success, but we were blown away this year! Thank you!

CATHOLIC MEN’S FELLOWSHIP CONFERENCE Men! On Saturday, March 23, Catholic Men’s Fellowship of Northeast Ohio is holding its 19th annual “Answer the Call” conference at the centrally located Holiday Inn Rockside in Independence. Key speakers include Bishop Nelson Perez; Jon Leonetti, an internationally known Catholic speaker, author and radio host; and Pete Burak of Renewal Ministries, who seeks to form adults into intentional disciples of Jesus Christ. If you would like to register for this event please call Bill Dolata at 330-421-2298.

Keep Your Eyes Fixed on Jesus

SEARCH WEEKEND~APRIL 5-7 LET’S GET SOME STUDENTS

FROM ST. MARTIN’S!!!

Why are Search Weekends held?

To help young people enter into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

To develop a fuller understanding of God and His Church.

To encourage young people to assume a leadership role in their local and parish community.

Contact Terri Yohman in the office if you are available to attend this weekend retreat at Camp Christopher.

CRUSADERS FOR CHRIST SHOEBOX SERVICE PROJECT

This Lent our Crusaders for Christ Youth group will once again participate in our Shoe Box Service Project. Last year our 6-7-8th grade youth group filled 175 shoe boxes with both necessity items and small gifts for children in different age groups!

These boxes were delivered to the Medina Catholic Charities. Every box was used! This year we have a goal of 250 boxes. These gift boxes serve children ages 2-14 in Medina County. They are given throughout the entire year. There will be collection boxes in the Gathering Area the weekends from February 23 through March 31. You may also bring items to the Parish Office during office hours. If you have any questions please call 330-483-3808, ext. 237 or email Carrie Dean at [email protected].

PARISH ACTIVITIES

CHELSEA CARES BLANKET MINISTRY

We are once again making blankets and pillowcases for Akron Children’s Hospital for Chelsea Cares Inc. St. Martin’s has made over 500 of these blankets which have been donated to each child who enters the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Akron Children’s Hospital. These blankets and pillowcases are made from fleece, which is provided to you. There is no sewing, only cutting and tying.

They are quite easy to make. This is a good time of year for an indoor, part time, no pressure, only do it in your free time, activity. Anyone from grandparents to teens to younger kids can help. All of the materials and instructions can be collected and dropped off at St. Martin’s Church. There is no time limit. We do them during the months of February and March.

Please call Sue Bernard at 330-721-7232 to make arrangements. Feel free to leave a message.

KNIGHT AT THE RACES

This year’s date for our Knights of Columbus, Knight at the Races is Saturday, April 6. Our Knights of Columbus have contributed greatly to the parish since its inception in 2009. Most of the monies generated through their fundraising have been donated to St. Martin’s parish ministries, including Operation Homes, Food Pantry, and our youth from preschool to high school. They raised funds to help build our pavilion and a shower for our Operation Homes guests. Last year they also purchased a defibrillator for the Education Building.

Tickets are $30. per person, unless you purchase an entire table for 8 and receive a 10% discount. This price includes all food, beverages and door prizes.

There will be an exclusive cash door prize in which only the first 10 tables (80 people) purchased are entered! We will also have Side Boards, our delightfully fun and funny Heads or Tails bead game, and our Losers 50/50 raffle. Our regular raffle has some AWESOME prizes; even parishioners who are not attending the Knight at the Races are welcome to purchase raffle tickets! So invite family and friends to a night of food, fun and fellowship to further a fantastic fundraising event! Questions? Call Tom Rundle, 330-441-1922.

MEDINA CARES INC.

Medina Cares Inc. is an all-volunteer 501c3 organization whose mission is to give temporary assistance to Medina County residents between 19 and 59 years old who are having a medical crisis. Our board members volunteer their time so that these individuals, who often fall through the cracks, get the help they need in Medina County. We assist with expenses such as doctor appointments, medications, co-pays, rent, utilities, car repairs, gas cards, food cards, needed supplies, food and much more. We also direct those individuals to other private organizations that may be able to give additional needed resources. Medina Cares is looking for supporters, volunteers and board members to help our cause.

We are in need of additional board members with or without healthcare background. Our greatest need is for an attorney, individuals with fundraising background, or event planner, but we will not turn anyone away who has a desire to help Medina County residents.

You can also help Medina Cares by becoming a volunteer to help cover our phone, with training provided, or by assisting with fundraising events.

Finally, you can be a financial support by attending our events, donating items needed for our events or regular monthly donations to our cause.

Please help us help others. For consideration, please contact our president, Greg Nichols at 330-388-2059.
