Dr Akiyama graduated from the University of Hawaii with a BS in Marine Zoology and a MS in Fish

Diseases. He received his Ph.D from Texas A&M Univeristy in Nutrition. Currently, he is the Managing

Director, Shrimp Improvement Systems and has contributed a lot to the industry and was instrumental in

guiding the mineral requirement in shrimp as early as 1990’s published by NRC.
