FEATURED PROJECTS
DREDGING
Darwin Marine Supply Base
Location Darwin, Northern Territory
Client Northern Territory Government and Macmahon Contractors
Scope Dredging the Darwin Marine Supply Base approach channel, swing basin and berth
Contract value $65 million
Start date August 2012 Completion date December 2013
In 2012, Hall Contracting was engaged to carry out the dredging of the Darwin Marine Supply Base approach channel, swing basin and berth.
The project involved dredging nearly 700,000m3 of siltstone to adjacent reclamation ponds. Soon after commencement of the works, it became apparent that much of the excavation included particularly hard sandstone and quartz. Hall successfully used its Eastern Aurora dredge to remove most of the sandstone and engaged the BHD Gungner, a 300t machine, to pre-rip the sandstone and quartz reef before the Eastern Aurora pumped it ashore.
Despite all the obstacles, Hall succeeded in successfully completing the project for the client.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Brisbane Airport New Parallel Runway
Location Brisbane Airport, Queensland
Client Brisbane Airport Corporation
Scope Construction of critical dredge pipeline corridor
Contract value $16.8 million (AUD)
Start date November 2013
Completion date February 2015
In 2013, Hall Contracting was appointed to construct a dredge pipeline corridor for this $1.3 billion project. The project also included the design and construction of a 4km long, 11m wide access track, as well as associated perimeter road diversions and ramp overs.
As the dredge pipeline corridor path was to pass through an existing Waste Water Treatment Plant and the operational international airport, Hall Contracting was required to install a 4km long, 1000mm diameter steel pipeline as well as a 6m high, 40m long pipe bridge over an existing outfall structure. The complex project also required installing 270m of welded pipe under the live runway.
In successfully completing this project, our team demonstrated their ability to work in a highly regulated environment and in such a way that they did not impact on the operations of the fully functional airport.
URBAN DEVELOPMENT
Pelican Waters Estate
Location Golden Beach (Sunshine Coast), Queensland
Client Cardno
Scope Construction of a canal residential estate

Hall Contracting has been the principal contractor for this award winning canal residential estate since its launch in 1990. A total of 2,000 allotments have been constructed to date, with 1,500 more to be completed over the next five to 10 years. Upon completion, Pelican Waters will have a population in the vicinity of 11,000 and will be a suburb in its own right.
To-date, Hall Contracting has delivered the following as part of the project:
• Bulk earthworks • Dredging works
• Construction of an 18-hole Greg Norman-designed championship golf course
• Bridges (both concrete prestressed and timber) • Lock and weir navigation structures
