We are pleased to invite you to participate in our annual mental health awareness campaign.

Offaly Mental Health Talk Week, now in its third year, is an initiative of Offaly Community Forum and Offaly County Council in collaboration with the HSE and many other agencies that are working to promote positive mental health in the community in Offaly.

The overall aim of the two weeks is to encourage the community to talk about mental health, reduce the stigma associated with mental health difficulties and to seek help at a time of crisis. Things can improve if we learn new ways to look at life. Offaly Mental Health Talk Week has numerous speakers with tips and good information to help us cope with what life can bring.

It is important that we as a community learn more about mental health and understand the impact of poor mental health in our daily lives.

It is also important that we learn how to support a person experiencing mental health difficulties and minimise the risks of poor mental health. There is an excellent variety of topics and speakers in this programme of events that are carefully selected to encourage such awareness throughout this campaign, as we reach out to as many communities as possible.

Our programme reflects the World Health Organisation’s definition of mental health as “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” It is a standard of personal care that we can all strive towards achieving.

Please visit our website to keep up to date with our campaign at www.omhtw.ie

I believe we can all learn something from this programme of events so please come along some day or evening.

We look forward to your participation in our Offaly Mental Health Talk Fortnight
