Summer 2021 and Fall 2021
Summer Programs
(July 6 – August 5, Monday through Thursday)
• Summer School, Middle & High School (Completely virtual)
– Held at each high school
– Two sessions per day, one course permitted per session, per student – APEX curriculum
– Mandatory synchronous Zoom sessions – Asynchronous work, quizzes, tests, etc.
• Summer Boost, Elementary & Middle School (in-person,
w/transportation)
– Held at eight locations; *MS = virtual w/transport to HS internet cafes as needed – ½ day sessions daily; *International Boost (elementary) provided via Zoom
– Special Education Boost, in-person, three locations
– Various other camps: Enrichment, AP, CTE, Nanjemoy Creek, Science Center
Summer Transportation
Bus service provided for:
– Dr. Mudd Summer Camp: 1 bus (41 students)
– Elementary Summer Boost (8 magnet ES sites): 37 buses (868 students)
– Secondary Summer Boost Internet Café access (All HS sites except NPHS): 10 buses (206 students)
– NPHS CTE Summer Camp (Two different sessions): Week 1- 8 buses (94 students) Week 2- 8 buses (87 students)
– In-County Special Education Programs (SPED Boost, ESY, Camp Co-op, AIP Jobs Program): 37 buses (327 students)
– Non-Public Special Education Programs (Annandale, Baltimore City, Annapolis, Largo, Lanham, Silver Spring, Hyattsville): 10 buses (34 students)
TOTAL: 1,657 students (Reg: 1,296; SPED: 361)
Health Partnerships & Testing Program
• Partnership with the Charles County Health Department
– Allowed North Point High School to serve as a vaccination site for the public
• Student COVID testing (this Summer)
– Five schools partnered with eTrueNorth Laboratory Solutions, to conduct
voluntary PCR testing for students twice weekly: Higdon, Middleton, Somers, Lackey, St. Charles
• Student COVID testing (this Fall)
– All seven high schools will partner with eTrueNorth Laboratory Solutions, to
provide weekly testing for registered students (mandatory for non-vaccinated athletes, voluntary for all other students)
Building Preparation
• Summer and Fall Cleaning
– Each facility is thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom and will be inspected prior to the first day of school
– Touch points and surfaces cleaned many times daily
– Restrooms thoroughly cleaned nightly with periodic cleaning during the day
• Disinfectant Information
– Benefect (green EcoLogo Certified disinfectant) used in all facilities – Alcohol based hand sanitizer readily
– Dispenser stands and wall mounts located in all common areas and classrooms – Fogging facilities occurs as needed
• Other preventative measures include
– Placing paper towels and Virex spray (hospital grade disinfectant) in each classroom
– Ensuring exhaust fans in restrooms, kitchens, and locker rooms are operational – Flushing waterlines
– Scheduling air filter changes
– Identifying schools for future HVAC replacement/upgrades
Health/Safety Protocols
• Continued implementation of Standard Operating Procedures
(SOP) to include:

Mask-wearing: required by all students, staff and visitors in all CCPS facilities
– 75k masks sent to schools; 64k surgical masks & 11k medical grade masks provided for staff
–
Physical distancing: maximized as much as possible
–PPE: available at all schools
–
Diagnostic testing: (rapid and PCR) available at all schools
–Pre-screening: required to be administered by parents daily
–
Possible COVID indicator: one symptom equals exclusion that day plus 48
hours–
Contact tracing: commences immediately upon receipt of positive case
–Community notifications: provided to individual community/updated on
website
Fall Transportation
•
Bus service protocols:
– Drivers, attendants, and students must wear a mask while on the bus – No seating limitations
– Capacity: Dependent of the size of the bus and the demands of the bus route
– Bus contractors were provided with clear and explicit sanitation procedures for drivers to follow
– Transportation provides cleaning solution for all buses along with clear sanitization procedures for staff
– Families using regular transportation can update daycare addresses or make inquiries using the Transportation Help Ticket portal on the website – Families requiring special transportation can provide updates through the
Special Education Department
Return to In-Person Learning
• Attendance Protocols and Instructional Preparation
– All students returning, five days a week unless already enrolled in the Virtual Academy Expansion program, grades 9-12
– Professional Learning took place over the summer to enhance
teacher pedagogy in how to address students with learning deficits
– Diagnostic Assessments will be administered to students in September to determine if and where gaps in learning exist
– Professional Development on data driven instruction scheduled for teachers throughout the fall and winter
– Instructional scope and sequences have been adjusted to accommodate skills and strategies not fully addressed due to the pandemic closures
– Teachers will continue to meet collaboratively in their buildings to share successful strategies and brainstorm solutions to instructional challenges

• Athletics 2021
– Online student athletic registration for fall 2021 sports began in May 2021 – Summer workouts for all sport seasons began June 21, 2021, outside only
until Governor and Health Department lifted indoor restrictions (July 1) – Fall sports official practices begin on August 11
– Current CCPS eligibility policy (#6431) suspended; following MPSSAA COMAR regulations through first quarter
– Eligibility policy #6431 suspension concludes at the end of the first marking period, with Board approval
– When games begin, students are expected to ride on the school
transportation, where face coverings are required of all bus passengers

– Trauma/SEL professional development provided for staff – CPI de-escalation training for administration and staff – Restorative practices/Mental Health training for staff – SEL programs for students
– Move this World (ES); Second Step (ES/MS); BASE (MS/HS)
– Student-led club/teens trained and empowered to promote social connectedness (Our Mind Matters)
– Mental Health services/counseling, psychologists, Tri-County partners will be available
– Integration of suicide awareness (Integrated into the health curriculum) – Parent/caregiver trauma and behavioral health evening workshops
