Typical judgementsPlease give some examples. Outline any solutions or courses of action considered you have to make about Facts/situations(1)Apatient who plays tennis regularly is referred with pain in their elbow. An assessment is made and a report written which you consideroutlining the problem, the recommendations, the plan of treatment and the advice you have given. uncomplicated or easy to understand(2)Situations where the patient has had an injury and a straightforward diagnosis needs to be given and treatment plan developed. Facts/situations(1)Apatient had a bad fall while ski-ing and now has only limited use of her arm. I had to make an assessment of the injury which you considerand obtained information from an examination, x rays and case histories of patients with similar injuries. The information complicated orobtained showed that the tip of the shoulder blade was chipped, but I thought that this may not account for the problem. difficultThrough experience and specialist knowledge of that type of injury, I decided that physiotherapy treatment could restore full movement and recommended a course of treatment. Although the patient had been advised to have a series of steroid injections by her GP, who believed that she had a frozen shoulder which would not respond to treatment, she decided to have physiotherapy treatment rather than the injections and regained full use of her arm. (2)Situations where the patient is at risk of the injury recurring if they continue with the activity, but they are committed to returning because it is their job or a major part of their life. On the one hand, I have to take into account the adverse impact on their lives and mental well being. On the other I have to weigh up the clinical situation and the problems that may occur through continuing with the activity. Note:I develop physiotherapy treatment plans, some of which are of a specialised nature as the patients have been referred to me because they have a sports injury. Patients are referred to me from other organisations, particularly adolescent boys who have injured their backs during sporting activities.
