ABOUT THIS CATALOGUE
This catalogue of SPC publications covers the period 1997 to 2008.
It includes all formal publications produced in English and French by the organisation since 1997, when SPC became the Secretariat of the Pacific Community. SPC was previously called the South Pacific Commission.
CONTENTS
The catalogue lists English and French publications separately and is in two parts:
Part 1
• (in colour) is a selected list highlighting our most popular recent books, reports and multimedia productions with a brief description of their contents and, where applicable, more specific information such as ISSN, ISBN and number of pages, etc. See the ‘Select list of publications’ on pages 4 to 19.
Part 2
• is a comprehensive list of all formal SPC publications from 1997 to 2008. See ‘SPC Publications from 1997 to 2008’, starting on page 23.
In both parts, publications are arranged by subject for ease of consultation.

Ciguatera field reference guide (2005), 88p. Ciguatera is a form of food poisoning caused by eating fish containing toxins called ciguatoxins that come from micro-algae living on coral reefs. Symptoms range from unpleasant to severe, and ciguatera is a significant public health issue in the Pacific and in all parts of the world where coral reefs are found. Negative publicity around the incidence of ciguatera often leads to a reduction of commerce in reef fish in island communities and also jeopardises reef fish exports. This well-illustrated book describes the fish species most likely to cause ciguatera poisoning, its effects on the body, and the remedies used to treat symptoms. It also provides a practical guide to methods for assessing and trying to manage ciguatera risks by introducing monitoring and other measures.

Socioeconomic fisheries surveys in Pacific Islands:
A manual for the collection of a minimum dataset (2007), 129p.
Socioeconomic information helps fisheries officers and other coastal

Manual on fish aggregating devices (FADs): Lower-cost moorings and programme management (2005), 49p. The cost of materials used to construct FADs increased sharply in the late 1990s and SPC was asked to conduct experiments on FAD buoy and mooring configurations to reduce costs and lengthen their lifespan. The results of these experiments are summarised in this manual, which also discusses how FAD user groups can play an active and sustainable role in managing FADs and provides a guide for managing national FAD programmes (monitoring, maintenance, funding options, design, and assessment of the efficiency of sub- surface FADs).
