The special grace of this Sacrament offers the Lord’s healing strength, peace and courage to anyone who is seriously or chronically ill, hospitalized or about to undergo surgery. Please contact the Parish Office if you wish to have someone anointed.
Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated twice a month:
the first and third Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. (some exceptions due to Holy Days and liturgical celebrations).
Please call the Parish Office to register for the program and to set a date for the Baptism.
Marriage
Archdiocese of Chicago guidelines for marriage preparation ask that a minimum of six months be set aside for preparation for marriage. No firm date for a wedding will be set until the conclusion of the couple’s first meeting with the parish minister. At least one of the engaged persons (or their parents) must be a registered and active parishioner of St. Monica. No Sunday weddings are scheduled.

FEAST OF FAITH
COME, SPIRIT!
DECISIONS
The presider at the Eucharist can choose from among a number of different Eucharistic Prayers, all of which follow a similar pattern.
Almost always, they begin with an epiclesis, a Greek word that means “invocation upon” or
“calling over here.” At this moment in the prayer, the priest calls down the Holy Spirit upon the gifts of bread and wine that we have brought to the altar: “Father, we bring you these gifts. We ask you to make them holy by the power of your Spirit, that they may become the body and blood of your Son” (Eucharistic Prayer III). The words of the prayer are accompanied by the ritual gesture of the laying on of hands, the ancient sign of the gift of the Spirit, which is also used in most sacramental celebrations, from the rite of confirmation to the ordination of deacons, priests, and bishops.
Liturgists sometimes call this first epiclesis the epiclesis of consecration. Later in the Eucharistic Prayer, there will be another epiclesis, the epiclesis of communion, as the priest asks that the Holy Spirit be sent upon us to transform us. “Grant that we, who are nourished by his body and blood, may be filled with his Holy Spirit, and become one body,
one spirit in Christ” (Eucharistic Prayer III). There is an axiom that states, “Not to decide is to decide.” This saying was popular in the turbulent times of the Vietnam War. It urged us not to allow others to answer the moral questions raised by our nation’s involvement in that terrible conflict, but to decide for ourselves.
Making such choices is never easy. Avoiding them is common. Jesus, for his part, was not only a gallant risk-taker, but a clear decision-maker.
As he pursued the mission to which the Father called him, he continually decided for us and for the Father. He worked hard to lay out a scenario that would enable others to make similar choices. Never did he make decisions for others or force others into decisions, even decisions that had eternal ramifications.
Jesus is inviting us to make such decisions today.
We won’t be absolutely sure. What is sure, however, is the command that issues from God’s word: Take the risk. Decide!

BETHLEHEM ARTS
August 28th & 29th
We will host representatives of the Catholic Christian Community from Jerusalem and Bethlehem in the Holy Land who will be displaying handcrafted olive wood religious figurines and articles. Due to the political conflict and the reduction of tourism, the Catholic Community has come to depend more on the sale of these articles abroad to survive. The woodcarvings are beautiful and reflect faith and love for the Lord.
Please consider purchasing a gift that will be remembered and cherished for yourself or someone dear to you. The handcrafted olive wood religious figurines and articles will be available for purchase after all the weekend Masses.
MASS INTENTIONS The Mass Intention Book for 2022 is now open.
If you wish to order Masses in the upcoming year, please stop by our parish office.

NIEDZIELA
XXI NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
B
oże w dobroci nigdy nieprzebrany!Żadnym językiem niewypowiedziany;
Ty jesteś godzien wszelakiej miłości;
Poszanowania chwały, uczciwości Ciebie chcę, pragnę, i ważę samego, Nad wszystkie dobra tyś u serca mego;
Najwyższe dobro, tyś w największej cenie, Sam jeden u mnie, nad wszystko stworzenie
PSALM:
I złotymi gwiazdami ślicznieś uhaftował;
Tyś fundament założył nieobeszłej ziemi I przykryłeś jej nagość zioły rozlicznemi.
Za Twoim rozkazaniem w brzegach morze stoi,
A zamierzonych granic przeskoczyć się boi;
Rzeki wód nieprzebranych wielką hojność mają.
Biały dzień, a noc ciemna swoje czasy znają.
Bądź na wieki pochwalon, nieśmiertelny Panie!
Twoja łaska, Twa dobroć nigdy nie ustanie.
Chowaj nas, póki raczysz, na tej niskiej ziemi;
O
mój Jezu w Hostii skryty, Na kolanach wielbię Cię, W postać chleba Tyś spowity, Bóstwo Twoje kryje się;Ty, co rządzisz całym światem, Me zbawienie w ręku masz;
Tu przed Twoim Majestatem Aniołowie kryją twarz.
O światłości przysłoniona, Rzuć mi Twój promienny blask, O dobroci nieskończona, Otwórz dla nas skarby łask;
Chlebie życia przeobfity, Nasyć duszy mojej głód;
Boski ogniu tu zakryty,
Rozgrzej serca mego chłód.
Jezu, Tyś jest Zbawicielem, Mnie od zgubnych ustrzeż dróg, Bądź mi siłą i weselem,
Bo w tej Hostii Tyś mój Bóg;
Dla miłości Matki Swojej Racz wysłuchać prośbę mą:
Bądź Miłości w duszy mojej, Nie gardź moją cichą łzą.
K
róluj nam Chryste, zawsze i wszędzie to nasze rycerskie hasło,Ono nas zawsze prowadzić będzie i świecić jak słońce jasno.
Naprzód przebojem młodzi rycerze, do walki z grzechem swej duszy, Wodzem nam Jezus w Hostii ukryty z nim w bój nasz zastęp wyruszy!
