Fr. Brian

“Behind the Mask”

Today, the Blessed Virgin’s Assump- tion, body and soul into Heaven, is tied directly to our hope of eternal life with God. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us, Our Lady’s Assump- tion “…is a singular participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians: ‘In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.’” (CCC 966)

A special thank you to Fr. Paul Esibu, our resident priest, who will be away for awhile in August for a much needed and deserved vacation. Fr. Paul has been very generous with his time while living in the parish. His student status limits what jobs he is able to take. However, because no full-time parochial vicar is assigned to us as in prior years, Fr. Paul

has been a tremendous help filling-in-the-gaps, especially sacramen- tally at our churches, school and for emergencies at the hospital and nursing home. Most of all, I know you will agree that we all benefit from Father’s gentleness, joy, and prayerfulness. We pray that Fr.

Paul has a restful and recharged time away, and for a safe return to us, as he resumes his studies at Duquesne in the Fall.

As we countdown the days of summer, we continue to ramp up prepa- rations for the coming Fall season of youth instruction. Please spread the word that sign-ups continue for our parish Religious Education for our middle-schoolers (Edge) and elementary catechesis (“Family of Faith” and traditional programs).

Furthermore, this week we welcomed Mr. Sean MacBride Murray as the new principal of St. James School. Mr. Murray has a wealth of experience in education, and brings many talents to the position, as well as his faith and prayerfulness. We look forward to his guidance of our faculty, parents, and students as they prepare for an exciting new academic year!

LOVE THEM BOTH

We must love them both—those whose opinions we share and those whose opinions we reject. For both have labored in the

search for truth, and both have helped us in the finding of it.
