Pre-Academy Physical Fitness

Pre-Academy Physical Fitness Course is designed to prepare students for the physical aspects of the police academy course approved by the California Commission on Peace Officer's Standards and Training (POST). Students will perform various physical exercises including the POST-mandated physical agility test (99-yard agility run, body drag, six-foot solid wall, six-foot chain link fence & 500-yard run), cardiovascular endurance exercises, and various calisthenics. Proper body mechanics, techniques, and conditioning principles will be applied with an emphasis on proper nutrition and injury prevention.

Winter Session: January 6 – February 14, 2015

Tue/Thu 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. and Sat 8:00 - 9:30 a.m.

Spring Session: February 17 – March 18, 2015

This course is designed to familiarize the student with the police academy training program and may be taken 4 times. Credit/no credit only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.

Police Academy - Regular Basic Course (RBC)

Pre-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G054AD (Orientation/Police Academy - see above)

Co-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G065 (Physical Fitness/Police Academy)

This course provides the fundamentals of basic police training in compliance with the minimum standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

The training includes community based policing concepts, techniques, and observation of application. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.

Mon - Fri and some weekends

CPOA- Leadership Development for Law Enforcement

This course provides leadership principles for career advancement in a law enforcement environment. Pre-requisite: P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate.

Dispatch Supervisor Course (Pre-requisite)*

This 80 hour P.O.S.T. certified Supervisor Course (Plan IV) has been specifically developed for the Public

Safety Dispatch Supervisor.

The course represents an excellent foundation for supervisors, regardless

of length of service. It is presented in a facilitated discussion format which requires the active participation

of all students.

Specialized Investigators’ Basic Course (SIBC)

Contract Education No college credit

Basic knowledge and skills in compliance with minimum standards to meet requirements established by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) for persons serving as Specialized Investigators in the State of California. Includes both physical and academic standards for successful completion. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only.

This class is offered as a Contract Education class and does not carry college credit units. Attendance is by permission only.
