Dear Parent
Curro Aurora – A recipe for Success
It is important for any institution to understand, acknowledge and support the processes and contributions of the main role players that ultimately determine the level of success that is achieved. Without these partnerships and ongoing collaboration, no school will be able reach its full potential. Thanks to the passionate learner community, dedicated staff compliment and supportive parent body, Curro Aurora is performing exceptionally well and is well on its way to reaching its full potential. I firmly believe that the elements listed below are essential to ensure that we are successful at helping all students achieve academically and helping them to be caring, contributing, productive, and responsible citizens.
Vision: having a common understanding of goals, principles and expectations for everyone in the
learning community;
Leadership: having a group of individuals dedicated to helping the learning community reach its
goals;
High Academic Standards: making sure all our learners reach their full potential in a creative and
supportive environment;
Standards of the Heart: helping all within the learning community become caring, contributing,
productive, and responsible citizens;
Family School and Community Partnerships: "making room at the table" for all role players; Professional Development: providing consistent, meaningful opportunities for teachers to engage
in continuous learning;
Equity, diversity, fairness, and inclusiveness must be a part of every aspect of education. It
should permeate everything that happens in the school. This includes every program; every classroom environment, curriculum; and every policy and procedure of the school.
I look forward to the 2020 academic year, during which we will continue, to not only embrace these elements, but also the Curro values of Child Friendliness, Positive Discipline, Christian Values and Creative Thinking.
Mr JC Engelbrecht – Executive Head

MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD
The South African Mathematics Olympiad is the largest Olympiad in South Africa and we would like
to encourage our learners to participate.
It is voluntary and open to all Grade 8 and 9 learners and any Mathematics learners in Grades 10 to 12. The first round is written on 12 March 2020. The entry fee is R20 and payable to the learners Mathematics Teacher.
Learners who attain 50% or higher in the first round qualify for the second round which is written on the
14th May.
It is well known that mathematics competitions generate a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity for the subject.
Every participant in the SAMO papers will be challenged by at least one problem and hence his or her problem-solving skills will improve. Problem solving skills can be further improved by carefully working through the solutions of these rounds.
Creative problem-solving skills are very necessary and very marketable in today's technically oriented marketplace. This marketplace is now global and South Africa needs to be very
competitive. Hence, we need expert problem solvers. Practice in problem solving will help to train our future leaders in technological development.
