Quality of green and public open spacesPropose to include the Green Flag standard – as a local measure for quality of parks provision in the Borough.
The Council has measured the quality of its parks for a number of years using the Green Flag criteria. The
assessment is undertaken
independently by an external assessor. The system is based on a number of criteria awarded points based on observation method.
Current baseline is 42 points (2007/08).

This measure is monitored using the Council’s Citizens Panel (The Barnsley Voice) on an annual basis. The latest survey issued in April is still within the fieldwork period and results are expected early June.
Whilst there is previous years data to inform target setting, it has been decided, due to fluctuations that a target will be established following confirmation of the current baseline as at June 2008.
