RE: Cenergistic Proposal

Monday, December 29, 2014

Dear Mr. Feneberg,

Executive Summary

I am recommending the District enter into an agreement with Cenergistic, Inc. to develop an energy conservation program estimated to provide a net savings to the District in excess of

$1,800,000 over the next ten years. The fee paid to Cenergistic is guaranteed not to cost the District money with all of their fee coming from gross savings. The Nashua and Londonderry School Districts have been clients of Cenergistic for over 10 years with net savings of $10.3 and

$4.9 million respectively.

Background Information

The District spends almost $1,000,000 on energy utilities. Cenergistic, a energy management company that works with school districts and companies, has made a proposal to the District to reduce our energy usage. Their proposed fee is paid from the gross savings. They project a net savings to the District of $1,800,000 over the next ten years.

How it Works

After signing a contract, Cenergistic will provide a full time employee to be shared

between our District and the Salem School District to serve as an energy manager for both

Districts. That person will work in each school with staff to impact cultural shifts in the way

energy is used. That person will also coordinate experts from Cenergistic who will visit the

District to tune equipment and to improve usage on the backend. We also will begin to use third

party energy usage software that will track our actual results to provide accountability for the

results.

(2)

A few other key points:

1. Cenergistic guarantees their results and does not get paid unless our savings exceed their fee;

2. Cenergistic projects a net savings of $81,950 in savings over the first 16 months of the program;

3. We are combining resources (and thus, reducing the fee for the program) with the Salem School District. I have coordinated with the Salem School District to align our objectives and to ensure equal coverage for our District;

4. Cenergistic’s client list includes the Londonderry, Nashua, and Claremont school districts, each of which have provided me with strong references;

5. Cenergistic will only charge a fee for the first five years of the program. If the District chooses to continue after the five year contract period, the District can choose to hire an energy manager directly.

Requested Board Actions

1. Motion: To authorize the administration to enter into a contract with Cenergistic, Inc. for an energy conservation program for a period of five years and with no net cost to the District.
